Hi GuysI am about to swap out my Asus Sandy Bridge MB in the next couple of weeks as I have 5 hard drives and do not want the Sata 3 port to fail. I have Windows 7 64 bit on my C Drive with about 240GB of programs and I have FSX on my D drive. I was thinking that I would like to start a fresh installation of FSX but try and keep my main C drive and programs the same. I looked at Acronis True Image and it looks fairly simple, so tell me if I am wrong I should un install FSX then make an image of my C drive to one of the other storage drives I have, swap out the motherboard and then boot into the image I have saved. My question is do I re format both C+D drive and then move…

I have overclocked my cpu to 4.5ghz. For some reason, I had to use a vcore of 1.37. Everytthing was stable but after the cpu was stressed for about 30 minutes (with a dvd making program), I got a blue screen. So I increased the vcore to 1.375. Again, while encoding dvd's, after about 45 minutes, I received a blue screen. So now I am at 1.38 vcore, but this is way high for a 4.5 ghz overclock on this cpu as I have seen others with a 4.6ghz overclock with like 1.32 vcore. I have load line calibration enabled in my bios. Do you have any ideas why my vcore is so high or any recommendations you have.Thanks.

Recently a new breed of storage has emerged combining a traditional platter HDD and a limited SSD "cache". I.e the Seagate Momentus XT range. Specs: XXX SATA 3Gb/s, 32MB, 7200RPM, HDD + 4GB SSD SLC memory, 2.5" - apparently available as 250, 300 and 500 GB.Does anybody have hands on experience with these?Or can somebody more tech savvy than me make an educated guess on the usefulness of these devices?Perhaps compared to full SSD, Raptors, WD Blacks?

I'm pleased to announce the latest and greatest in FSX benchmarking - FSXMark11. Mad props to the developers of the original FSXMark07 from which this newer version gets its' roots. Download it, follow the guide to a tee, and come back here to report your results. If you have run FSXMark07 in the past, you will notice this newer version is much more taxing. This was done to get a better concept of realistic frame rates on todays hardware. We are all very eager to see the results from a variety of systems, be it AMD, 775, 1366, 1155, etc.Download: FSXMark11

Hi, I'm running FSX on my system, i'm wondering how i can improve the frame rates without too much money being spent. I heard somewhere that ram is the key to getting a smoother game on FSX? Not sure if that's true. like others on this forum, I am able to play state of the art game titles with near enough no stuttering, so i'm not sure what's the case with FSX. I'm not really a computer expert so i'm not sure what's exactly relevant, but i currently have,AMD Phenom 9650 Quad Core 2.30GHz4GB RAM (3.12GB usable)500GB Hard DriveNVIDIA GeForce GT 240Any help would be greatly appreciated, ThanksAlril40

How has everyone coped with the Sandy Bridge defect? Done the workaround? Or replaced their MOBO? Or waiting for new chipset MOBO? I haven't done anything but will eventually.

Hey guys,Thought I would start here as many of you have been very helpful during my first ever new build. I've had an overclocked system before, but I had used automatic settings so I consider myself an OC newbie. Anyway, I've finally worked out the issues I was having with my cooler. As expected, I just had a bad mount. I used AI Tools II to attempt an automatic overclock. It got me to 4.4mhz. I then started manually tweaking. I currently have my computer OC'd to 4.7mhz with a voltage of 1.365. FSX and FS9 run great with these settings. Unfortunately, any time I attempt a cold boot or resume from sleep it locks up. More specifically the computer gets caught up …

Im getting ready to order my parts for my 2600k build, Is the Nick N guide still the way to go for the install on Win 7 64bit, I saw the guide was from 2009 so wasnt sure if that is the best way to do my install. Also still debating on if dual WD raptors 150gb is enough space or would should I jump one of them up to 300gb. Do I really need a fast HD for my OS. Would like to go SDD but my budget is $2000 and im at $1800 with this build. Any way to cut some cost or upgrade please let me know. I took a chance and bought the H50 at Best Buy after all of the mediocre reviews I read. When I initially installed it, I set it up at the back of my case as exhaust. My temps were good, but not great.I decided, then, to install the cooler the way Corsair intended. As an intake fan. Low and behold, that did the trick. Idle temps on this processor have gone down to ~31-32C from low 40's and load climbs into the high 50's/low 60's with this overclock. I just have to resign to the fact that not all of the fans at the top are exhaust now.

Hi everybody. First of all, I assume that this would be the most asked question in thr forum, but please bear with me. I am looking to buy a new desktop for FSX, and I dont know where to turn. I have looked at the Alienware offerings, but I think that $3,000 on a new computer is a bit much :P . Does anyone have good suggestions for a Desktop that will run FSX at a solid 30 FPS at a large airport and will not break the bank? Thanks!hamoody

I have an Gigabyte H55M-S2V motherboard and it has a 4 pin cpu fan connection. I didn't realize when I purchased a ISGC-400 cpu cooler from Thermaltake that it only has 3 pins to connect to the motherboard. It's all setup and apparently working fine so what is that 4th pin for? If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it!Mark

Hello,I've been a long time user of MSFS...ever since '95. I have every "quality" add-on for FS9. I have recently made the switch to FSX and though I had the rig to handle it flawlessly. I was wrong, so I upgraded some things. I have installed FSX, Acceleration, and SP2. I use UTX, UT2, and GEX. Many, but not all, of my addons from FS9 are compatible w/ FSX. My only problem is that when I am sitting on the runway at KEWR....with minimal settings....my FPS are around 13 max. My System:- Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit- Core 2 Quad LGA 775 Q9650 3.0Ghz 95w 1333 FSB - ATI HD 6870 1G GDDR5 256-bit 900Hz graphics card- 8GB Patriot Viper Extreme DDR3 1866 PC3 15000 RAM- 1TB Western Digita…

Hi allI have a neighbour who plays Flight Sim X. He currently has a Dell XPS 420 (all stock speeds):Intel Q66003GB DDR2-667 (2x1GB, 2x512MB)8800GT (not sure on RAM)1TB Sata HDD, 750GB+ freeVista 32bitThe main problem he said he was having was about 20minutes in to a flight, the game would visually freeze (Audio would continue) then eventually CTD. At first I thought this was strange - until he proceeded to show me at least 8 install discs for expansion content, all of which he said he had installed. My mind then immediately clicked to: Is it just running short on RAM? I did suggest running the game with Task Manager open to see if the RAM did get choked, but he's un-…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139004Found this link on newegg while searching for cases...Looks excellent - basically a smaller version of their 800D. What I would love to know is will the Noctua DH14 with fans fit into this case? I always thought their 800D was my dream case but it's so freaking huge I doubt I have the space for it. So Then I was thinking mid size either this one, the Coolermaster Storm Scout, or the Antec 900. But I like the cases with the easy-to-remove side panels and square openings for the aftermarket coolers. Makes install much easier.I store my current PC under my desk and I don't think I'd have much more space from…
