I've finally pieced this rig together. It's been a real roller coaster ride. Had the GPU led lighting up and the PC refused to boot. I fiddled with the GPU and RAM and finally got it to boot. Has run solidly since. Knock on wood.I then removed the stock heat sink and installed my Corsair H50. Long story short, I've worked an overclock from 3.2 to 3.85 GHz... with a vcore of 1.29v. The H50 (mine's exhaust setup) is holding the highest core temp at 67 with an OCCT stress test going on 30 minutes. Is that sounding decent to any of you? This foreign language that 1366 and Asus is using is going to take some time to get used to. :Nerd: My poor girlfriend got annoyed and…

Hey guys,I've recently obtained a new computer and am having a few issues with FS9 and I wondered if you all would have a solution or perhaps are experiencing the same problem?Basically, if I go into spot view and pan the view so I'm looking down on the aircraft, the FPS will start dramatically varying and causing massive juddering and stuttering, as soon as I pan it so the view is parallel to the horizon the stutters disappear. This only seems to happen at certain airports (Aerosoft's LEMD 2008, EHAM + LEBL, UK2000 EGCC to name a few.) I thought I had a decent rig(specs below) so am stumped as to why this is happening as this did not happen on my old computer. I disable …

Hi GuysI have pretty much put together my Sandy Bridge build, Asus Evo + 2500K + GTX570. I happen to have some credit remaining at MicroDirect and thought I would swap out my old GSkill 2 x 2GB Ram Sticks (Cas 8) for 2 X 8GB sticks as a long term plan. There are a couple of Corsair Kits but would it be better to go with higher frequency and higher latency or lower frequency and lower latency, the three I was looking at are,Corsair Memory DDR3 2000MHz 8GB kit of 2x 4GB CL9 (1.65V)Corsair Vengeance Performance Memory Module 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL9 (1.5V)Corsair Vengeance Performance Memory Module 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL8 (1.5V)They are all about the same price £110…

After having to reinstall the W7 OS, I'm now having a problem installing PFE and FDC. After the install on both, a message comes up reading " MSVCR71dll not found on your system, try and install again". Tried three times, same message. Reinstalled FSX/Acceleration no problem, in fact its running better than ever. Any help will be most welcome.

I was reading the net (first problem lol) and apparently there's only so many writes an SSD can do before it fails? Is this true? If so, what is the life span of current SSD technology? Are we talking 2 years, or like 10 years?

I got an incredible deal on an I7 960 ($100 BRAND NEW from a friend!!!) and couldn't pass it by.I had been holding out for the Sandy Bridge chipsets to be re-shelved, but feel I got a great deal. With the purchase of a Sabertooth X58 and quality DDR3, I paid $450 for the new system. Anyone else think I got a great deal?I figure when the P67 is back in a month or so, I'll have saved $200 up for the motherboard and >$300 for the 2600K if I really feel compelled to get it then(that's what I've decided on against the 2500K). I'm a full time college student and about to be a part time flight instructor, so scrounging up money is tough for me. :Black Eye: This processor…

Hi folks, I´ve just searched through the web and found an AMD quad core CPU with 3,4 GHz for only 140€. My CPU was listed for about the same and I can get only 3 GHz. Why are most AMD CPU´s cheaper than the Intel ones? Is Intel better/faster or why is this so?

Hi folks, I´m thinking of getting a new cooler for my CPU. When I use FSX the core temps are arround 70°C on all three cores and the CPU is also oc´ed, so I think a new coller would be good. I´m actually running the stock cooler which came with it. Also the cooler is very loud when running FSX, so I wanna get a quite one. I´m not really familiar with the brads and I have only arround 45$ or a bit more than 30€ to spend, so can anyone give me a hint to a cheap and good one?BTW: I need an LGA 775 compatible one.

Hello!Below are the hardware specs for my PC - is there anything I can do with my hardware without paying so much to boost performance of FSX!? I currently play games such as Crysis and Modern Warfare 2 beautifully and smoothly at max settings (without overclocking) but FSX is the only game I play which I cannot achieve beautiful and smooth gameplay at MAX settings. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! :)Thank you!HP Pavilion Elite m9050.pt Processor: Core 2 Quad Q6600 (K) 2.4 GHz (95W) - 1066 MHz front side bus - Socket 775Chipset: Intel G33 ExpressMotherboard: Asus IPIBL-LA Berkeley-GL8EMemory: 3GB - 240 pin, DDR2 SDRAMHard Drive: 320 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) - …

I got a Crucial Real C300 SSD, so far only FSX on it. Got 80+ GB of space left. If I were to install another sim or game onto that SSD, would that in any way mess up data transfer rate for FSX (and the other program for that matter)?Bjorn

I have some memory in my Asus P6X58D-E board, which has the part number KHX-1600C9D3K3/6GX. Looking at the part number, and knowing what I believed I was purchasing from NewEgg, this should be 1600 (PC12800?) DRAM, is that correct? (I see a part number reference decoder at http://www.kingston.com/HyperX/Products/decoder.aspI have yet to start over-clocking my i7-950. Just currently looking at CPU-Z and BIOS settings to figure out how I will do this (and I do need to get an after-market cooler first for the CPU). At default 133MHz BCLK, I see on the "Memory" tab of CPU-Z a DRAM frequency of 534 MHz, 1T 8-8-8-20. On the SPD tab (where as I understand it, CPU-Z gets dat…

Hi all, after building my new rig, specs i will post below i need some help overclocking. Now im going to be honest with you all, this is the first rig i have built and apart from a few teething problems it is up and running fsx quite nicely apart from a bit of stuttering nown again. I have not applied any cfg tweaks yet, maybe you could advise if i need to. I have pondered across a few guides here on the net but any that i try the bios comes up with an overclock warning and reverts back to original setting(luckily) so i wondered if anyone here has a simmilar setup and could walk me through overclocking my rig, i would be very very greatfull to anyone that could. Im no te…

Alright - so in my experience, as well as what I'm seeing on overclock.net, most people including myself require 1.4v+ to go beyond 4.6Ghz. The good news is everybody can do 4.5 or 4.6Ghz no problem, but don't be fooled, these chips do start to put out some heat at that speed. My h50, which did an excellent job of keeping my Q9550 at 3.6GHz cool, struggles with my i7-2600k at 4.6GHz. Prime 95 takes me into the mid 70s within 10 minutes. Maybe I just need to reseat my h50, I dunno. I've had 4.8Ghz at 1.45v, but I'm going to have to do something about my cooling first if I want to run that 24/7, much less test it for stability. For cooling, get an h70 or a really good air c…

Recent reports of frametime performance based on the results from FSXMark07 Global High ratings are indicating another possible 2X (twice) ratio in comparison from a 975@4Ghz to a 2600K@5Ghz with special memory and uncore (L3 cache) tuning. This is on top of a 2X ratio from what I currently have at home - a q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz. Just as a side note - it seems that the FSMark07 Global High ratings are approximately twice that which would be achieved with a PMDG 747 on final to a complex airport like ORBX YMLL with severe weather and high traffic. Here are the results that I have seen and where they were reported:1. Q6600 @2.4Ghz 25.5 fps (FSXMark07 Example results - included wi…

Well, that I'm posting in the hardware forum indicates I'm about to do something expensive (partly in prep for the NGX but don't tell PMDG that)... I'm about to pull the trigger on a Sandy Bridge build. New everything. So the question I'm about to ask comes down to Sandy Bridge vs. Sandy Bridge:Which one should I pull the trigger on? There's a $100 price gap, so I better see a 100$ difference! <_< Keep in mind this PC will be used for FSX and DCS A-10C only! I realize the technical differences. I'm just having a hard time relating them to FSX performance. As I don't have a motherboard thanks to Intel's fumble, I'm grabbing parts on Newegg while they're free s…

Hello Tech peoples.I have a problem with my PC.After startup its fine for a few minutes. After this time however it becomes very laggy ,my mouse pointer will stick and jerk on-screeen ,trying to type (in this forum for instance) each character can take a second or so to display (very irritating) and also if my e-mail indicator should sound at this point (default FS9 e-mail sound ) the sound is very crackly ,it sounds as though its struggling to get through. After five minutes or so this condition resolves itself and my PC is functioning normally again.I have traced the cause of this problem to Deferred procedure calls. In the stuttery, laggy phase these DPCs are using bet…

I've been searching the web for a generic feel of what the Intel i5-650 3.2ghz temps should be running at. The opinions seemed to be varied by what or whom you happen to be reading at the time. Can anyone chime in with some advice/temps that you feel the processor's core temperatures should be when running general Windows apps like FireFox or something more specialized like our very own FS9?Also, has anyone found that water cooling is the way to go? Right now, I've got very good air flow through out my system case. So all the components won't be affected by ambient temperatures. However, I'm still using Intel's stock heat sink and fan on the CPU with Arctic Silver 5 for t…

After being away from FS9 for a few years I am about to buy a laptop and am biased toward Sony just based on past experience. Appreciate any feedback on whether the specs below would support FS9 with smooth performance, or if I need to go Intel or upgrade the GPU. I fly mostly DF 727 and LD 767 into major airports with add-on scenery and moderate AI. Plan to add mesh, REX, GE to the mix, probably not much more.Any input greatly appreciated.
