In the endless quest for more performance in FSX I choose to start over-clocking my CPU, an AMD Phenom x6 1055t.The test bed:CPU: AMD Phenom x6 1055tMotherboard: MSI 870-G54ARAM: 4GBPSU: 650WGPU: MSI Cyclone nVidia GTX460 768MBThe stock clock on the 1055t is 2.8GHz, so with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus, I've over-clocked it conservatively to 3.5Ghz. So far I'm running an avg. temp of 22C while flying over FTX's Sydney scenery at full density after 15 minutes of ground and flight time. My result from flying from Sydney to Perth I saw a peak temp of 25.2C, not to bad. Apart from making sure I'm not cooking my CPU to get higher FPS, I was looking at my FPS over Sydney. I u…

Hi, although at Simforum's I've read the thread concerning the optimization of FSX installation, I have an observation to do:wouldn't O&O defrag zones be useful, considering the huge number of libraries and textures files?wouldn't FSX be better performing (with faster defragging), by relocating the thousands of libraries files into ACCESS priority zone(2), and leaving only the application files into zone 1?thanks

How far have other's gotten over-clocking a 930?I must be doing something wrong with mine, I can't even hit 4.0 with stability / good temps.Specs:i7 930 with a Corsair H50 for cooling (arctic silver 5 used w/ vertical line method).Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R main board2xGTX 470 in SLI1,000 watt Corsair XMS power supplyI can get up to about 3.8 but temps are high around 70C during a prime-95 run according to the on-board sensors.Any advice is appreciated or general insights, maybe I just have a 930 core that won't go that high.

I have only gotten to page 6 in reading the Sandy Bridge quote ... but I just lost a motherboard on my current system and want to go the Sandy Bridge 2600K route. Haven't checked myself, but on the phone he read me some things off line and said that Intel is into a recall of the chipsets, I think he said the P67 and H67 chip and says they have demonstrated a deterioration in performance.Does anyone here know of any such thing? Is anyone noticing any issues? Does every board for the 2600K use this chipset?I'm not a technician, just an appliance operator. What is your recommendation?Thank you, Steve, in Indiana, USA

Hi, I have this program, as I have a mix of 2 SSD's ( 1 60GB for Win7 & 1 256GB for FSX) and 2 normal WD 1TB hard drives for scenery, and was impressed at the fact that the program can differentiate between the drives, turn of the windows defrag for the SSD's ( I had done this already) Do the trim and also defrag the conventional drives. My question is this: I have set up the program to trim the SSD's daily but if I run the anaysis on the drives, it shows the SSD's as being heavily fragmented. Does this mean they are still fragmented or is ist simply that the way the drives work and are written to will show this? I just want to be sure that the SSD's are properly op…

Good morning,I've looked at improving my hardware a bit as my FSX with my current set up is running very slow (see signature).First of all I was looking at the CPU and I was thinking that maybe an overclocked E8500 or E8600 would be a nice solution. However, also the i7s seem to work well with FSX and I was specifically looking at the i7 930, overclocked as well - however, I would only use air cooling.Of course the quad cores might be better, but is a price tag of £250 really worth it? This means I would not be able to invest as much into a graphics card and my HD4650 really needs to retire.Which one would you take if you also had to buy a graphics card and wanted to stay…

Hi, been reading the OOM. threads. Still unable to get my head around the ram issue. after about 1hr into a flight i get OOM. restart FSX. Even though the resource monitor showes only 44% use. None of the fsx sliders are maxed out.I also get low frame rates.

I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit a couple of months ago. At the same time I installed a WD 1TB SATA II, and WD VRap 150 GB, SATA. I re-installed my USB CH Flight Sim Yoke and Pro Pedals by simply plugging them in and booting up. They loaded and have worked perfectly ever since, retaining all calibrating and sensitivity settings – except for one thing. At times they just lose their connection. This occurs at random times and never while in use. To repair I shut down and switch USB ports and boot up again. Here is what I have done in an attempt to fix this problem: Checked Device Manager. This shows all USB devices working properly. In W7 Control Panel is shows all HID-…

The only thing I have found so far that changes forum text size is to right click my desktop display and go into "Display Properties > Settings" and change the "Screen Resolution".Am I missing another adjustment option somewhere…

Have got what seems to be a stable overclock of my SandyBridge at 4.8 GHZ with an ASUS P67 Sabertooth. Was just wondering if I should have the speedstep setting active. Just built the system for FSX and wasn't sure if performance would fluctuate if the chip isn't at a constant speed all of the time.ThanksSteve G

I overclocked to 4ghz, when my computer starts up, there are about 3-4 clicks before the beep when the bios posts. Does this mean the system is unstable and I should add voltage to something? The speeds all show properly in the bios and windows though.

I am seeing some feedback on a proposed new computer system. The specs are as follows:Intel I7-950 3.0 GHz, 8MB 4.8 GT/s LGA 1360 (Bloomfield core)Gigabtye X58 LGA 1366 US 3.0 ATX Motherboard8 GB DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 RAM950W SLI Crossfire PSUWindows 7 Home 64 bitOther components of the computer will be scavanged from my existing system including a NIVIDA GTX 460 1GB video card. At this time, I intend to forego a SSD I've read many of the post on this forum concerning the Sandybridge process, but the store that I'm working with does not build with this processer. With some of the other concerns about the SB MB's, I'm considering this processor at this time.I'm builing th…

Hey guys, I'm building a type of "hybrid" low-cost home cockpit and wanted advice from yall on a few things here. Basically it will be fitted with LCD screens and GOflight/Saitek accessories. I would have 4 screens running the interior visuals (panels) and 6 screens running a panoramic outside visualisation. I choose to go with the 6 LCDs instead of 2 or 3 projectors for simplicity issues. Now, obviously, I would need 2 computers to get the job done. Both with two video cards:Computer (1) : Two video cards, both with triplehead2go set up running all 6 exterior monitors. Computer (2): Wiith two ports per card, running all 4 instrument displays. Now, I assume that in terms …

Well, I was driving down the highway on the other side of town (KMSP metro area) and saw a place called MicroCenter and stopped in. I was amazed to see that they had more space dedicated to HDDs then most big chain stores have for there entire PC selection and the prices matched or beat most online retailors. So what started out as a mission to upgrade my video card to…

Hi everybody, My first post so apologies if in the wrong section.Basically, the time has come for me to bin my 8 year old laptop and poor FS2004 performance and buy a new PC and FSX!My budget, I'm afraid is only around £600-£700 as I'm currently moving home.Obviously I'd love Ultra High settings, but I realise I won't get that, but I'd like as high as possible :). All I use a PC for is basic photo editing, music, Football Manager and Flight sims! All I tend to fly is a VC-10 around the UK (I happen to work on the RAF VC-10 as a job.)I looked into building my own, but being a complete beginner I've decided to look around at pre-built PCs, I've had a look around a couple of…

  17. Hello All,So I have a Q9550 overclocked to 3.7, 4gigs ram and a GTX260 card on win64. After seeing the reviews decided to get a GTX570. After following the driver removal instructions on Nvidia's web site I removed the drivers swapped cards and installed the new drivers. With the GTX570 installed the benchmarks showed double the power of the older GTX260. So eager to see what FSX could do now I loaded it up. And if I had not put the card in my self I would not have believed it was changed. Really not (1) FPS more, and not the least bit smoother. How is it possible that the card could show such improvements in 3 different benchmarks but absolutely nothing for FSX? Has anyon…

Hopefully this year I'll be able to get a PC upgrade. What I'm really interested in is being able to fly the F1 Mustang at payware airports like FlyTampa, and Boston, and FSDreamteam's ORD and JFK. You guys getting the high clocks on these new CPUs - are you running the fps heavy payware such as the mustang? I can't think of a plane that's worse on my fps than that one. But I still fly it I love it.I'd like to get at least 20 fps at major airports with at least dense autogen. The problem I have now (other than having an older PC) is the large stutter I get when the payware scenery loads. It's almost a 2-3 second pause. I wonder if that would go away with a faster C…

Hi all,So looking for inputs. I bought a 120 gb OCZ RevoDrive PCIe for FSX. I'm wondering if I should also install my WIn7 64 on it also to maximize performance? I know about the super fast boot speeds Windows would have, but I bought the Revo for FSX and my main purpose is tomaximize my FSX xperience. So should I dedicate it solely for FSX?My setup is i7@4ghz 1800DDR3 GTX480 WIN7x64, I'm not expecting a major FPS boost, but faster initial loads and scenery loads. Does anybody have any experience with this type of setup?

There's a few threads here on the i7 Sandy Bridge, but I'm wondering if anyone has looked at the i5-2500 Sandy Bridge? Difference in cost between the i5-2500 and the i7-2600 is about $90...for the difference I'd see in FSX any thoughts on whether the extra $90 is worth it? I don't know a whole lot about how FSX treats the various CPU's, but I'm wondering if there are features of the i7-2600 that are wasted in FSX, making the i5-2500 suitable? To give you a sense of where I'm upgrading from, I currently ave an E6750 dual core @2.66Ghz. I also recently bought a nVidia GTX470, so I'm looking for a nice CPU to go with it. I'm looking for information "out of the box", as I'…
