Well, folks, reading all the different post from around the globe, it seems as if Sandy is not the hot curvy gal we were all waiting for, huh? I was about to build me a new computer (even though I just built one 2 months ago with my Intel i7 950)and invite Sandy over; but I think I'll stay where I am. I am currently doing 4.30Ghz with my i7 950 (sometimes up to 4.85Ghz..........mmm, for 2 minutes then it crashed; but hey I got there :Tounge: )Bulldozer: So, yet to see what happens with the Bulldozer. I am waiting and see what happens . As long as it runs over FSX and not me, I should be fine...Dig out all you want, crush it and make it screem ! Thne we'll all run towards…

Hi Guys,Here is my planned rig (will be getting it in a few months when the funds allow):Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 big towerAsus P8P67 DeluxeI7-2600K (planned OC to around 4.5 with my Zalman cooler)Evga GTX 580Corsair 120Gb SSD (for OS and FSX)2x WD 1TB 7200 (already have those, considering installing only one of these, as 2TB is a bit of overkill) (for the rest, data etc)Antec CP-1000 PSUDVD-RW (I really don't need blue-ray)Now the question, I was thinking to get 8Gb of ram (4x 2Gb) but I am unsure what speed to buy. I found some Kingston HyperX 2250Mhz that I was considering, but then I got lost in thoughts about what difference it would make over 1600Mhz RAM and came to t…

Hello!Due to the discussion of this topic here I have started this topic so any and all interested can join in a discussion reviewing Phil Taylor's "Back of the Envelope" calculations, specifically whether a theoretical calculation alsone is sufficient to prove that autogen BW requirements can exceed PCIe BW, or do we also need a real life-test.My POV is that theoretical upper limits on performance stand by themselves without needing benchmarking proof, but that a benckmark can be useful to measure the actual performance that will be, necessarily, below the theoretical limit.By analogy, if we know the data density on the platters of a HDD and the rotational speed of that …

So after constantly reading and researching, I've finally ordered my new, rig, and this is my first build. I haven't been able to play FSX much on my stupid laptop so I'm looking forward to this. I plan on doing incremental upgrades, particularly the ram, in a couple months, and yeah, I'm sure 16GB will be overkill, but whatever.1TB WD Caviar Black HDDEVGA GTX 470 (Maybe will do the stup-up program when the 560 comes out)G. I've read extensively on the computer requirements for FSX and am planning to build my own system. I know zero about computers so this will be a great and challenging learning experience (and I won't be doing it solo, FYI). Anyway, here's the system I plan to build. Hi guys, just a simple question. Is there any diference between having two 4GB DDR3 modules or four 2GB DDR3 modules in terms of performance? Or is it only with four modules you have only twice as high power consumption? Thanks for the reply.

Hi, I´m catually runnibg 4Gb of RAM, the rest of my system is in my signature down below. I´ve seen much of you guys, who have 6 or 8GB of RAM. Now I´m questioning wheather it would give me any performance boost if I had 6 or 8GB.Despite that my system is getting somehow good performance, does such "upgrading" makes sense?

I'm 'bout ready to just dump WIN7(64), save this one last effort to save it. :-) I've had WIn7 64 for about 6 months now and everything seems ok but for this nagging issue; poor hard drive performance. I can play a looped 30 sec 20mb video clip and the OS will only read the file directly from my hard drive never from ram. While capuring and playing back video it's like I'm not gettting any DMA or write-read cache, although drive benchmark software tell me everything is fine with my drives and hardware. One other observation while using FRAPS in Win7 that I don't see using in Xp32: I get some kind of video sync when I capture. For example, if my framrate within FSX is 80 …
