I wonder if there's anyone here running FSX on a I3 5xx. I've read it's a great overclocker and coupled with this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...p;Tpk=H55M-ud2h hits 4.2GHz - 4.4GHz easily (maybe even more with HT disabled).that's dirt cheap combo and if it's true that FSX can run on 2 cores, I would expect it to perform very close to I7 860 or 920.that would be a great budget buildany I3 owner around?

I have an ancient Q6600 currently, and am having trouble over-clocking it (BIOS keeps resetting in POST). I've been looking at an upgrade, although this is one that I am trying to be cost conscious at the moment, as I have other competing priorities. I have a 460GTS and am running Windows 7 64 bit.Looking at the Core i7 series, I am reading that the Lynnfield series (i7-8xx / 8xxS) are 4-core with an 8MB L3 cache (so I understand the difference to the 12MB L3 on the Bloomfield), and use the LGA 1156 socket. I'm still looking at prices, but it seems that the combo motherboard/CPU for LGA 1156 might save some money, however I also acknowledge the lack of upgradability usi…

Hey gang. As planned, I have picked up a basic desktop for FS9. Based on my old computer's specs, this one should fit the bill. Here are my old vs new specs:Old:3Ghz P4 HT (Dell)2MB RAM256MB Radeon 9800XT cardWindows XPNew:2Ghz Athlon II 170u (Compaq)2MB RAM, soon to be upgraded to 4MB1Ghz Radeon 4350 HD cardUpgraded to a 400 watt PSWindows 7Here is my question. I noticed that the processor is running anywhere between 89-100% while FS9 is running (I realize that FS uses a lot of processor). RAM use is around 50%. I have tweaked a lot of settings with little reduction in CPU usage. The biggest change I saw was shutting off my Aero/themed desktop. However, it still …

I've noticed a "ghost image" of the panel in all screens (spot, tower, V-cockpit, etc) in green, sometimes magenta on my monitor. Almost like a faint "burn-in". However, if I switch to another program or to the desktop, I can't see it. It's only in the sim. Anyone know what this is? Is it a FS9 setting, monitor issue, graphics? Thanks!

Hello from EnglandI'm planning on buying the NGX, and as I read through the forums in the PMDG section I gather that it is going to have around the same performance as PMDG's MD11, I get around 20 FPS during flight with default scenery, however, this will go down to around 3 FPS when on VATSIM with scenery. I personally don't have a clue about overclocking, however I think it is the way forward. I intend to buy this:http://www.dabs.com/products/akasa-ak-ccx-4002hp-venom-cpu-cooler--socket-lga775-lga1156-lga1366-am2-am3--70LW.htmlSo I can overclock my CPU.I have also heard that an SSD will speed up my frames a little, is this true? Thanks in advance, Luke Brown

  8. Hello folks,Here's a quick list of what I've got at the moment: CPU: Core i5-750 slightly overclocked to 190 x 21 = 3990MHzRAM: 2x2GB Mushkin Blackline 2000MHz CL7 (running at 1900MHz CL7)GPU: nVidia GTX460 Overclocked 725MHz Core (plan on clocking further to ~900 when I water cool it)System HDD: Samsung SpinPoint 1TB short stroked to 320GB, also contains FSX Monitor: a 24'' Samsung 1920x1080 monitor. Just thought I'd share this article I found for those of you considering upgrading to Sandy Bridge in January. The author's math was a bit wrong - here's the corrected prices:i5 2300 - $227i5 2400 - $236i5 2500 - $257i5 2500K - $270i7 2600 - $363i7 2600K - $387Obviously these prices are speculative. I know several people were concerned the k models would be much more expensive - the above should bring some relief!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone....I have a (now jurassic) Q6600, 4GB PC3 12800 RAM, NV GTX 460 GPU (1 GB), running on a GA-X38T-DQ6 board, Win 7/64. Kind of a 2 part question about upgrading and overclocking my existing setup.Regarding overclocking, I have previously OC this rig mildly to 3GHz (I have an after-market cooler). Recently, when things didn't appear to be looking as smoothly in FSX as I thought they should, I noted that my OC had reset to 2.4 GHz, and would constantly reset if I tried to OC it (system doesn't post, and restarts automatically, then posts OK). I asked here:http://forum.avsim.net/topic/318174-cant-oc-my-system/page__pid__1875647#entry1875647…

Whist upgrading my current rig I'm looking at possibly upgrading my current 4B 1600 CL9 RAM to something with tighter timings and better cooling.I note from Nicks setup guide that he recommends at least CL7 at 1600, preferably CL6. In reality, do these timings make much (any) difference?
