Using FSX. Will I benefit by upgrading my computer? With present computer I am still getting a few 'stutters', and it takes a fairly long time to load FSX (with UK photographic scenery).Present Computer - Dell Vostro 220 MT. Intel duo core 2.93 GHz. 3GB DR RAM.Graphics Card NVidia PCI Express with 1 GB RAM. Windows XP.New Computer suggested - Dell XPS 8100. Intel core i7 870 Processor.Windows 7, 64 bit. 6GB Memory. Graphics Card NVidia Geforce GTS 240 1 GB memory. So, with this specification, will I not get any 'stutters' and will the loading be faster?Thank you very much,Bravo.

Folks,Like many of you, I've been simmming for several years now (since 1998). And, it wasn't until a few months ago that I decided to jump into FSX, build a FSX-capable-computer, and then Overclocked my CPU...And, I may not have much experience or much knowledge as some of you do; however, I believe I have learned a bit more than the basics on building and OC my system. After, I got the basic-intermediate-to-intermediate-advance knowledge on OC, I've been asking myself some questions and I'm wondering what your thoughts are. There are a bunch of programs out there to use as benchmarks to score CPUs and GPU. But, why is FSX used very little to none for testing how well …

Hi, prior to my upgrade ideas of a new grafic card I want to know how much watt my system is actually using an how much the watt usage would be with a new GTX 460 or 560 so that I can judge whether I should get a new PSU or whether the old one is ok. Maybe someone can point me to a programm which does such measurings?

Just wanted to throw this out there for the new build to see if anyone noticed any conflicting hardware. My concern is always: will the hardware fit in the case, will the RAM jive well with the motherboard and will the whole thing be capable of overclocking. I was thinking of getting an SSD, but it might be best just to put everything on one HD and wait for the SSD prices to come down.Planned uses: FSX/training, graphic + web design, audio editing. Not interested in multiple monitors, SLI, etc... Thank you for your input!I plan to sell my old rig on craigslist to recoup my investment in this machine. I am a complete newbie to overclocking. Can someone help me overclock my CPU? I got it up to 4.5ghz with 1.355 vcore is this too high? Please recommend what voltages I should be using at each ghz. Also, since this is my first overclock, I had to restate my system like 10 times yesterday and literally like 30 times today and still haven't gotten stability. Did everyone experience this on their first overclock? Please tell me your experiences as now I feel really bad for having restarted my system so much and please help!

I have been confused of late of all this talk about different types of RAM, their timings, voltages, speeds, latency. I don't really understand what people are talking about. I'm looking at newegg.com for a new P67/2600k (or is it P55 for sandy bridge?) build, and see the choices:G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600mhz (PC3 12800) Latency: 7Timing: 7-8-7-24 (whatever that means!!!)vs.G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000mhzLatency: 9Timing: 9-10-9-28I read on most of the hardware boards "look to see what the mother board will support." However, I'm not sure even whats the best motherboard for an overclocked P55 sys…

Several posters have commented about Sandy Bridge steppings and advised that the C stepping is the one to look for to maximize chances of a good overclock. Is there a way to identify the stepping from the codes on the box? Thanks

Does anybody know why fs9 suddenly drops cpu usage (judging by the task manager) when nothing else is running? The system idle process then picks up whats not being used, which is alot at times, then it goes back to normal. This kills my frame rates when it happens. Is there anything known to cause this and is there a simple fix? Thanks, rich

I have an HP Pavillion multi media computer. It came with an Nvidea 8600GT card.I decided I would like to upgrade the card to something a little stronger. I looked at a GTS250 and found that I would need to increase my power supply from the current 350w to more like 500w. Is this a fairly easy task? Would the stronger power supply cause problems for anything else? This is new territory for me. I would really like to avoid buying a new pc since I plan to stick with FS9 and am a little tired of chasing the speed. Any advice is appreciated.

Hi All,I'm just built a new system about a month ago. It looks like one of my Western Digital 10,000 RPM VelociRaptor drives is going out. It was working fine the over the last 2 weeks is seems to randomly dismount and disappear. The were a HUGE amout of index and registry problems with it, CHKDSK found on startup MANY times. Overall, it was > 10,000 index problems on all the startups. I've deleted the partician and reformated at least 10x's. No when I run checkdsk, checkdsk seems to get locked up. Several times the last few days the drive doesn't show up on windows boot. Howver, on inital startup the controller shows it is functioning fine.Windows 7 64 Bit profession…

Hi guys!Since my budget is low <300$ i need to upgrade my CPU and graphic card. Curently I have athlon II x4 635 and ATI 5570, FS9 runs perfectly with tons of addons, max graphics res 1920x1080, AI 100%. At a same time FSX runs on medium settings, with a few addons (UK2000 EGLL and Aerosoft FRA) + 747-400x, default traffic, FPS are 25. I tried adding real AI traffic like in FS2004 but it's not working good. My question is would upgrading to a faster CPU only make a difference in FSX?Of course i'm plannig to upgrade graphic card too.thnx

Hey guys, someone in my area is selling this computer for $950 on craigslist. I wanted to get your opinion on how FSX might run on it. I'm going to offer $850 and he'll say, I'll meet you in the middle at $900, and I believe that's a fair price, but the real question is, is it worth it for FSX. Hello all,I am experiencing low frame rate with FSX Acceleration and hope to get some suggestions to get the high frame rate at the highest FSX Display settings possible. Only have one mod installed: Ultimate Traffic 2.Scenario 1:With FSX display settings at approximately 50% (see screenshots), getting average frame rate is 7-16fps. All the bars set to the middle or low in the Scenery tab and unchecked Land Detail textures. RAM is at 71%. Core 1 is 97%-100%, 2 3 and 4 jumps from 0-90%. The closer I get to Midway or O’Hare airports, jumps to 91% for about 1 minute. Then cores 2, 3, 4 average 40%.Scenario 2:With FSX display setting at approximately 25% capacity, frame rates…

Okay. I haven't seen this discussed around here yet but this new technology looks very, very promising and exactly what the Microsoft Flight franchise needs during development. If it has been discussed already, I apologize. The developer simply uses the Intel tools to analyze a game from both the CPU/GPU side to make sure they are getting the most efficient use of resources. Wow! What a concept! I remember the lead developer for FSX, Phil Taylor (who went to Intel and is probably part of the development of this new techology) said his team knew too late that a game could run better if it was allowed to operate more efficiently with the CPU cores. They had done a littl…
