I'm building a new computer as below. I've traditionally have used built with cheaper motherboards and rarely been satisfied with the quality of onboard sound. As such, I've always had a PCI-e sound card. I've got a much better motherboard this time and was wondering about the utility of separate card if I'm ok with the sound quality from onboard. As I understand it, the motherboard has a separate sound processing chip, so I'm not sure I'd expect any offloading of the CPU with a separate card. Is there any performance benefit I should expect to see? I'm not an audiophile, so if the Asus board is even decent quality, I might be just as happy keeping the board unclutte…

  4. I have a 3 year old Sandy Bridge system with key components beeing a i5 2500K overclocked to 4,1ghz and a GTX 660ti. I am considering upgrading to a completely new Haswell system with 4790K CPU (with turboboost to 4.4 ghz) and coupled with GTX 780 or 770 GPU (I will only use one monitor). Then the big question is. Will I see a significantly improved performance in FSX with ORBX addons and my PMDG sweethearts? Flying the PMDG 737 in the "country side" (eg Alaska and Norway) FPS with my current system is mostly great FPS-wise (most of the time locked at 30 fps). However I would love to have a smoother experience flying in to major urban areas, like Anchorage, Par…

I'm a little unsure if I'm in the right area for this question, but guess I'll give it a try. I'm building a new FSX machine. I wish to move to largely SSD's, but due to budget, will only have 1 for the boot/OS disk at first. I will have a separate drive for game installations and another for storage. So my question is, if/when I get another SSD for FSX (and/or other games), would I be able to "clone" what will be my current game installations HDD from a traditional HDD to a SSD without having to do the whole uninstall/reinstall routine? If so, how? I appreciate any input.

  8. Hey guys, It pains me to ask this, but I will anyway. For the last week or so, fsx has been hit with incredibly heavy stutters. Their random and weirdly, seem worse on aircraft that don't stress the system. Ok, here's my system stats. Core i5 2500k o/c to 4.6ghz 16gb 1866mhz ram Nvidia 680gtx 4gb factory o/c'd Fsx stored on 1tb western digital caviar black drive. 3 x 27" screens. So far I've unchecked all addon scenery -stutter still there Fresh fsx.cfg file. - stutter still there. Turned the sliders down -stutters still there. Rolled back gpu driver to 314.22. -stutter remains Swapped gpu -stutters still there. Returned the CPU to factory - …

Just FYI for anyone that might wonder I just upgraded video card as per title and all though it was $800 it was worth every penny ! The difference in performance is huge I honestly didn't expect that big of an improvement Keeping my i2700k all I did was swap the cards I also use nvidia surround 5760x1080 , rex4 and p3d 2.3 , fsx is bye bye All sliders are on max except shadows are off , haven't tried them yet actually with new card AA is x2 AF x4 Fsxaa off No blurrier all autogen Max traffic at 50% HDR lighting is ON So yeah if you wondering if it's worth it I highly recommend it better and cheaper upgrade then CPU if you have something like 2500 i7 or better…

Well it is that time again when it is time for a new computer and a reinstall of FSX. However due to job uncertainty, I have decided to upgrade my old computer in small bites instead of replacing it completely. What I am hoping for is some advice, guidance and warnings from the experts on this forum. I bought an I7 940 back when FSX was just coming out, so my computer has the following: Intel I7 940 6gb DDR3 1333 RAM MSI X58 Motherboard Liquid cooling for processer NVidia 560TI Video card A decent case, power supply, 2 HDD With Windows 7 Pro 64bit, FSX/P3D installed on second HDD. Hi, I was contemplating upgrade from my 3 year old now i2700k to i4790K and wanted to see if anyone did something similar and is it worth it in terms of performance increase mainly P3D, since ver 2.3 of P3D came out FSX is going off my drive for good. I also use a 2gb gtx680 and was thinking of staying with it, maybe if p3d comes out with SLI i pick up another one... I am mostly interested in anyone's experience as to this CPU upgrade going from i2700k to i4790, even in case of FSX performance. currently i run the i2700k at 4.5Ghz, it was going at 4.9Ghz but i updated bios and forgot what all my setting were LOL i4790 would also by OC'd a bit. I see some people are using credit cards or the plastic container that the cpu comes in, to actually spread the grease. I saw another one where the guy made a X. What's the recommended method now or what is the best method? Someone even spread it on the cooler instead of the cpu. One video showed the the cpu temperature of 31C after doing it this way.

I don't know if I should get a i5 4690k with my current gtx 760 or a i7 4790k with a new 780. Option B is obviously the more expensive route to go on but I would love to play FSX with a lot of addons (I already own REX and Carenado's TBM 850, and with my current setup it just isn't comfortable flying). As we all know, FSX is an older game so you need really good freaking hardware to play it comfortably. Supposedly nvidia + intel works fantastic with FSX. So main question is would there be a big difference between the 4690k + 760 and the 4790k + 780 when playing FSX (if anyone actually does) and would I be fine using just a 4690k and 760 Playing major flagship …

  16. Hi to all,i have and I3 4360 (3,70GHZ) with 8GB RAM and GTX750OC.My fsx performs not bad at all (i get 30 fps in some addons airports and fluctuating from 24-25 to 30-35 fps sometimes).I have a tweaked bojote´s FSX.cfg Recentrly i decided to get a brand new I7 (4790 at 3.6GHZ up to 4.00ghz when in turboboost mode). The surprises was after install the new i7 my fsx performs bad,(with the i3 i get better frames). Now with i7 y have 15-18fps. I tried to tweak affinity mask to 14 and some other values,i tried to disable HT on BIOS and check a lot of parameters but without good results. Finally i decided to put i3 again and the system goes into 30-35fps range again. …

  17. First off, read all about it here: http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/70473-intel-core-i7-4790k-devils-canyon-22nm-haswell/ Highlights: Base clock 4Ghz Will work in Z87 mobos (firmware upgraded) Lowlights: Non-OC stress loads run at 88c 1.152v base voltage (VID?) New TIM is NOT solder OC ability is so weak they didn't bother with it IMO: Essentially a rebadged 4770K sporting a clock and voltage boost, and somewhat better packaging. I was once excited, but considering my stock TIM 4770K runs stable at 4.5Ghz at 1.21v (HT on, 1.19v HT off) and stays under 90c with my air cooler, I doubt the 4790K is worth my while. But for those yet upgrade (or have a r…

  18. When I first built my rig I put an EVGA GTX465 1024MB in it because it was on sale at the time and I had the intention of upgrading it down the road. Right now I am looking at the GeForce GTX 750 Video Card, 2048MB, DDR5, PCIe-16 because they are good value at the moment. Here are my specs: P6X58D-E / I7-950 / EVGA GTX465 1024MB / 6GB 1600mhz / Samsung 840 Series 500GB SSD / Win7-64 Would it be worth going up to the GTX 750 2048MB Video Card using my I7-950 3.06ghz processor or better to spend money on another area? I primarily use this rig for FSX and some other games like Truck Sim, Train Sim and Total War series. Cheers

Now I have been reading many of the posts to get an idea on what i would need to get as I look to finally upgrade my PC to be able to run FSX/P3D and a really impressive level with all the bells and whistles, ie REX, Ai, Orbx Global, PMDG etc etc without the fear of OOM crashes and Below are the specs of a PC i have been looking at already custom built... Please add any thoughts or recommendations to the items below (ie maybe change to fans rather then liquid cooling, more Power etc etc??) plus the obvious one, is what I have given would run fsx/p3d without major issues. i7 4970k …

  22. Hey guys, I've been thinking about upgrading my PC. I mainly use it for Flightsimming (and office stuff, but that's irrelevant in this case). But probably my system differs a lot from the system a lot of simmers have, because I'm a proud AMD user, never was disappointed by AMD, my CPUs kept running and running. Great pieces of hardware. Speaking of hardware, here are my specs: AMD Athlon II X4 @ 3.4GHz 4GB DDR3 RAM AMD Radeon HD5670 Asus mainboard with AM3+ socket (not the cheapest and not the most expensive but does its job) and an SSD with Win7 64bit installed Now as the title tells you already, I'm considering upgrading my CPU to a FX8350 (and doublin…
