Hi all - in reading through this forum and others, I've become decidedly more confused about what you can and cannot do with a second (or third) computer... particularly as most multi computer setups discuss multi-monitor as the main reasons. I get that .... my wife does not. I even explain that without any addons, I get 40+ FPS and with them it drops to 20ish; like talking to a brick wall. :-) Soooo .... my question(s) are - how can one utilize a second (less powerful) computer to off-load process to improve FPS? I do NOT have many addons as yet (so many and they all claim to be the best... so I'm in the process of learning) and none of those seem to be "SimConne…

I purchased a Samsung Evo 840 ssd a while back but have yet to move fsx from my my mechanical drive to the SSD. Is this a safe way to move fsx? Seems to be the easiest. FSx currently occupies 55gb of it's own designated hd. The migration software comes with the ssd.

So, I've been enjoying my FSX computer for about a year now, and I feel that it now needs a refreshment. The current specs are as below: Motherboard: ASRock N68-VS3 FX CPU: AMD FX-4130 overclocked to 4.1GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler Master 120V Seidon GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 1GB RAM: 8GB (4GB x2) DDR3 PSU: Dynex 520W ATX Power Supply I've saved up money since I bought this PC, and I was thinking about upgrading the CPU and the motherboard as well. After researching for the best parts in my budget, I came to this combination. New CPU: Intel i5-4960K @ 3.5GHz New Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H or GA-H81M-HD3 Although I know that Intel i5's and i7's …

With FSX being the only application running on taskbar, you can see fsx spreading the load across all cores. ******* tweaked with external limiter locked @ 30 fps. Very smooth performance (20-30fps) in the NGX at payware airports. For $160, I'd say this is a steal. It can even run BF3 while I'm in cruise on flight sim. Overclocked from stock 3.1ghz to 4.2ghz. Cooled with hyper 212+ System Specs: AMD FX-8120 @ 4.2ghz Asrock 970 Extreme3 mobo Radeon HD7850 2gb Sandisk Extreme SSD 120gb Win7 64bit Settings I run: Conclusion: Its no where near as bad of a product as many people have portrayed it to be. Sure you will likely get …

I just recently received an i7-2600k sandy bridge, to replace my i5-2400 but when I installed the new CPU my fps was lower than what I had with the 2400. With the i5 I had an average of about 10-20 fps taking off from Washington Dulles ( flight beam ) but with the i7 I had an average of about 2-6 fps Also does it have to do with my CPU temp, I have the hp 644724-001 heatsink and fan and my CPU is normally at room temp when running fsx, plus my CPU never overheats. Any tips to improve my fps?

Hi, In response to my other post about a laptop - I may sell my current rig that I recently built - it has an i5-4670K, an MSI 2GB GTX750ti, 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1600MHZ RAM, 1TB HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, Asus 24X DVD Writer/Reader, MSI Z87-G41 Mobo, Corsair CX500 Power Supply, Windows 7 Ultimate and the case is a Corsair 200R. How much do you think this less than 5 month old rig would sell for? If this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it to where it should be. Thanks a lot guys!

Hello, Recently, with the help of some people on this forum, I built a computer (specs are below) with FSX running smoothly and perfectly for me. I have been moving around a lot and I am starting to think I should've bought a laptop. Not that I will buy one in the immediate vicinity, I am just looking to see if there are any good ones for FSX that will run it decently. With that, I mean something like what I currently have - I don't use a bunch of addons, mainly default scenery but I fly planes such as the NGX, A2A 172 and Aerosoft Airbus X, which run fine under my current system. Anyone who could find a good laptop with similar specs- thanks!! My budget is around $12…

As the title states, I'm currently looking for a relatively cheap, yet reliable USB headset for use on FS2004/Vatsim. I realize "relatively cheap" and "reliable" may be diametrically opposed, especially when it comes to headsets, but I wanted to reach out and see what folks are using and if they'd recommend any specific products. I'd like to spend no more than $50 if possible. Thanks in advance.

Hello! I just bought this pc. It´s a very good pc, and I get 60 fps on every game i play, except FSX... I have installed fsx on the /C drive, the same drive as the OS. The addons i use in game is: Pmdg 737ngx Active sky next ezdoc aivlasoft EFB When i`m on the ground, it lags alot... But when i get airborne, it doesn´t lag at all.. Is this because FSX and OS is on the same drive? Or do i have to overclock the cpu? the cpu is a intel core i7-477k 3.5 GHz. My rig: CM Storm Stryker Gaming Big Tower Vifter: 2x 120mm Front, 1x 200mm Topp, 1x 140mm XFX ProSeries XXX Edition 850W PSU ATX 12V V2.2, 80 Plus Bronze, Modular, 4x 6+2pin Intel Core i7-4770K …

Hi, I am currently in the process of replacing my computer case for different reasons, including the fact that I'm upgrading to a GTX970. I currently run a GTX550 Ti and although I know FSX is CPU bound, I think I should be able to crank up my anti-aliasing and texture settings, the extra VRAM will help. I also play other games so the upgrade should hopefully be dramatic. Anyway, I cool my 2500k with an H60i cooler. I'm pretty sure I will have to remove the cooler from the CPU when I change my case.My question is the following: Do I need to clean out the old thermal paste and apply new one onto the CPU/H60? Does the paste go on the CPU or on the block? Which …

Hi, I have this Sony Vaio Hand Held and it's pretty old now, I was thinking of putting it up as a nav aid for X plane. Or just for Sectional Charts. Though it's only a 5 inch touch screen. The problem is I have put android on it and to me it's useless and the other problem is I cannot reinstall WIn XP as the USB ribbon inside is broken and it cannot be replaced, and the other problem is I don't know where the network cable is as this is different type of Network connector. Can anyone or does anyone know how to install Win XP using Grub and loading it up in the RAM so I can install Win XP ? Thanks.

Has anyone seen/tried this? I found it someplace the other day while searching for "FSX on an SSD" What it says is start FSX, go to Task Manager, right click on FSX under Processes, then left click on Affinity where you will see all the boxes checked. Uncheck all but 1st core and click OK. Then go back to Affinity and recheck all boxes which will force FSX to use all 4 cores. I've never heard of it, but decided to try it. BUT, I don't have the "Affinity" option. I'm using Win 7, Home, 64bitt. .

Accept for the pricing, what are the differences between the processors when it comes to FSX. I would like to make FSX movies and have good FPS while online. Would I be better off with hard-core add-ons like PMDG and Carenado with a i7 4790K, or would a i9 4770K be good? I'm trying to save as much money as possible. But if it would be significant, then I wouldn't mind paying the difference. Thanks.

Hey guys and gals, After jumping on a Halloween weekend special offer, I purchased some MegaSceneryEarth scenery and I've been bitten by the photoreal bug! With that being said, these suckers sure use up a TON of storage space, so I need to layout my storage subsystem more efficiently for more photoreal MSE sceneries in the near future. Below is how I currently have my storage drives setup... Samsung 830 SSD 256GB SATA III partitioned into 2 as listed below: Boot/OS Drive C:\ (100GB partition) FS Drive E:\ (156GB partition) WD Velociraptor 10K RPM 150GB SATA II single partition as listed below: Storage Drive D:\ (150GB partition) WD …

Hey gents: I bought System Mechanic many moons ago and promptly dumped it due to its proclivity for trashing window's voice recognition software. For those of us with VOXATC, FS2Crew etc. a full reinstall of Windows and FSX was required to repair System Mechanic's damage. HOWEVER......... I no longer use Voice Recognition software with FSX (or anything else for that matter). Too many instances of my better half staring at me strangely as I muttered to myself in my monitor-illuminated man cave. I recently therefore re-installed System Mechanic , not for FSX, but to handle all the crud and accumulated detritus that comes to any computer as time goes bye. AND...…

I work at sea so I don't get to use a high end desktop for my flight simming most of the time. When I'm away from home I've been using high-end laptops of one form or another for the last eleven years now. I thought it was time to retire my 2011 vintage MSI GT680R laptop for something newer. Being extremely impressed with my first ever MSI laptop I decided to stick with this brand which to my eyes at least offers a very nice range of gaming laptops at very affordable prices. Last Friday I ordered myself a new MSI GS70 2QE-032UK - this model being called the "Ghost Pro". Full specs here: http://www.box.co.uk/MSI_GS70_2QE(Stealth_Pro)-032UK_1680228.html …
