Hi, My sound is constantly fading out and in when I'm flying. When I start my pc, I first have to unplug and replug my Saitek yoke otherwise it's not recognized by windows and this reverts the sound device settings in FSX to default device. Very irritating but as far as I know there's no solution. I use the on board Realtek sound chip from my motherboard. The control panel sound settings show the Realtek speakers output as default sound device, and the communication device is set to do nothing. In the PMDG fmc the sound device is also set to the Realtek Speakers option but the problem is with all aircraft. I have installed the directx_Jun2010_redist.exe as pe…

Simmers, I've been having an issue with the Saitek (Pro Flight) Yoke that I've had for a few years now. Ever since I've moved to my new computer, the calibration isn't saving. I'm getting axis spikes for the throttles as to be expected with the age, but I feel like this may just be an FS error. I'm getting a right-roll tendency, so I calibrate the yoke. It works fine, but after a restart it's back to the tendency. Not too big of a deal - just means a brief calibration upon FS start, but it's strange. Is there any non-FSUIPC way of rectifying this? Thanks, Derek

Hi everyone, After being out of flight sim for a good few years, I am considering getting back into it by purchasing a pre-built desktop system for FSX, with the view of possibly upgrading to P3D. I intend to use the system just for flight simulation as I wouldn't really play anything else and I would also want to run add ons such as additional scenery, Active Sky and exceptionally detailed aircraft such as the 737 NGX. After looking at some of the other threads, i5 seems the way to go as FSX doesn't make use of the cores with the i7? Is this the same with P3D? Also, would I want to install FSX/P3D on a separate drive from the OS? Or does that make no dif…

A friend of mine wants to setup a computer that other PC's (about 10) on a network could access to share and view files. 3 printers will be on it as well. I guess it sounds like a network. Networking isn't my strong point but I said I'd try it. For starters I want and he prefers the connections to be hardwired. Which means I'll need to buy a switch for his router as well. 1) What do people recommend I should do? Just build/buy a boring PC with a few hard drives (is RAID 1 the best way to backup data?), create a shared folder with Win7 and go from there? He wants to be able to have full control of files and the other computers would only have read only …

Hi, I'm starting to line up parts to build a new FSX/X-Plane machine. So, having read around I'm still not sure on CPU. If I've gotten it right, the base specs are: The 5960X has 8 cores, a base clock of 3GHz with 3.5GHz turbo mode, DDR4 and LGA2011-V3 socket. The 4790K has 4 cores, base clock of 4 GHz with 4.4 turbo mode, DDR3 and LGA1150. From what I read FSX doesn't really care about cores and the 4790 does better with FSX, but would the extra cores on the 5960 help when addons like PMDG are thrown into the mix? What about X-Plane? Is the difference noticible enough to sacrifice a little bit of FSX performance for longer-term better usage of the 8 core sy…

Hi everybody, well I sold my last dell computer and built my own but it doesn't seem to be a big improvement on anything. the old cpu on the dell was an i5 with 3.3ghz paired with the stock gpu that came with it (gt635) and I could play fsx with add ons and the only areas that gave me trouble were northern California and kmry by orbx, none o thir other regions gave me trouble. I thought this would change if I upgraded to an i7 4790k and gtx 660, but it didn't. in my new computer no matter how much I increase or decrease the autogen sliders the fps are still the same which causes me to think that the cpu is not the problem. i zeroed ai traffic and lowered water and yes th…

Hey everyone. Last couple of days i've wanted to upgrade my hardware but been told by almost everyone that I should just overclock what I had already. To be honest the reason i havent done so already is because i've been scared of doing it (i know my basics in computers but im not a pro) Now i've been reading a lot on overclocking and im getting more keen on doing it so to start off i've just ordered a Hyper 212 Evo cooler. My pc specs is: CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K, (socket 1155 LGA) @ 3.30GHz Mobo: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3, Sandy bridge GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti If you need more specs to help me please let me know. My target would be 4.2 or even .5…

Hello, I hope this is in the right forum, if I've got it wrong please guide me to the right one. I am upgrading from an old Dell duo core that has done it's best in getting me airborne, with satisfactory results (did I hear someone laugh?). I have very basic knowledge of the finer details of PC part specs, and for all my online research I am not much better off. Keeping in my budget, I have configured a system for myself using a recommended local computer shop's online tool. Could you please offer me advice on whether the motherboard, CPU, ram and GPU will work in harmony to give me a better than average FSX experience. (please keep in mind that I have limited…

Hi all, Ok I just reinstalled FSX onto my Samsung 840 Pro SSD (not evo) I've had this SSD well over a year running with an Asus P8P67 Pro and Intel I2700k @ 4.8ghz. OS is Windows 7 X64 home edition. I have installed FSX a couple times on this SSD iin that time. So this third install a couple days ago went fine. I also installed all my PMDG stuff, Captain Sim heavies, and a few Carenado AC. Also installed all my A2A planes and then my whole suite of Reality XP kit. Last night I went to copy over some repaint files and the drive quit working in the middle of writing to it. It then disappeared from my computer. I rebooted and the drive was there again. I tried a flight i…

Hi All, I have ordered Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. Just wondering does anyone have any experience with it? I can't find many reviews on it out there, but the general impressions seem to be great for the price. I was initially going to go with the Saitek X55, but have reservations about spending 200EUR on my first piece of hardware - this seems to be a good compromise. Also, anyone that is using it - how do you have it configured? I think it comes with a default FSX setup, but I haven't used it yet. Is the twist rudder any good? Thanks, Steve

Looking at hopefully finally building my new system in the next couple months now that an unexpected move/house purchase last fall that sidetracked my original upgrade plans is over with. I had originally planned on a 4930K to get extra cores for photo/video editing on the PC as well but I don't think I can do the extra few hundred for the CPU and motherboard that will need. I had also wanted to do a 780 for the videocard, but I'm wondering if a 4GB 770 will perform close enough? I do use a lot of OrbX scenery and I don't know how much of that the video card will affect. I do know right now on my i7-860 (OC a bit) and GTX 560Ti I can easily get blurred land textures (…

Hi all, This is my first post on avsim. I've been flying on FSX for 4-5 years now, but only seriously got into it within the last few months (payware addons, vatsim, virtual airlines, etc.) I decided I couldn't stand getting at most 10-14 fps on my current computer, so I am looking to upgrade to a much better computer. I am not going to build one, so that is out of the question. I'm looking in the $1000-$1300 range, and I hope to get at least 30-35+ fps or so out of it, and for it to be able to run high FSX addon sceneries and aircraft such as FSDT KJFK, flytampa KBOS, Flightbeam KSFO, Aerosoft, PMDG 777, Majestic q400 etc at at least 20-25 fps if possible. (I'm not real…

Not sure if this is the right forum for this query, Moderator please feel free to move if necessary. Need to buy a new speaker sound system for FSX - Looking for something that it's not very large but will reproduce the various sim sounds well, something like a 5.1 system or even a 2 speaker set. Some suggestions and feedback from users much appreciated. Thanks

Last Tuesday I was in the middle of replying to a thread here at AVSIM when I had to go visit nature. Upon my return, I found that the mouse cursor was frozen! Worse, the keyboard was completely unresponsive. Uh oh, I thought. The only choice was to do a crash power down and cold reboot. Upon reboot, the bloody thing failed POST and only returned a "B4" error code in the lower right corner of the main monitor! Google search on my Sim Machine yielded the information that MSI bios returns a "B4" error whenever the system cannot find a USB keyboard. Three known-to-be-good keyboards in a row failed as well, pointing now to a possible failure of the on-board USB 'sys…

Hi all. I am using a system that I built in 2011. For the most part I am pleased with it. I am getting the performance I want in FSX in low-populated areas (20 FPS- limited by the internal FSX limiter). However, when I fly into areas such as FSDT's Chicago and NL2000s or Aerosoft's Amsterdam, I can barely break above 10 FPS. I'm looking at ways to increase my performance with new hardware. Is there any part of my computer that I can upgrade here? Or should I focus more on tweaks and such? Thanks. Operating System MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz 87 °F Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology RAM 8.00 GB DDR3 @ 800MHz (9-9-9-28) Motherboar…

Hallo everyone. I have a question about the settings in bios (motherboard Asus Rampage IV Extreme) for a i7 3960. Previously I decide to overclock my old configuration with i7 975 and Rampage III Extreme with the good suggestion from IDAHOSURGE which help me with a perfect guide which I'm still using from 2011 and that could be found here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/327338-need-help-configuring-bios-for-i7-975/. Now I ask someone of you if there is anyone who can help me to overclock the i7 3960 on at least 4.4 or 4.5 ghz stable with Asus Rampage IV Extreme (mine will be the Black Ed.) Below I list the specifications of the components that I'm going to assemble: …

Hello, Forum! After years of tolerating my Core 2 Duo system that was never quite up to the task of running FSX with more complex scenery and aircraft add-ons, I am taking the plunge and building a new system around the i7 4790K processor, with high performance memory and a GTX 770 video card, and of course a very decent cooler. But I also wanted to incorporate an SSD into the mix, for the smoother operation, faster boot times and loading, and to avoid the defragging and other maintenance required for mechanical HDDs. I have purchased a Samsung 512 GB Pro SSD for this system, believing this would give me plenty of storage overhead for Windows 7 (64bit), FSX and rela…
