How much performance would I gain in FSX from overclocking a 4770k from 3.5 to 4.5 ? I just need rough numbers here

  4. Hello everyone, So, a few days after having this PC, I had problems with the sound card (separate matter). I did a few system restores but no change. Oddly enough, after most of the system restores, I got BSODs.. I haven't overclocked. I had high temps with my 4790K but it was fine and I got really good performance with FSX but now with lower temps, it has gotten worse. I have accidentally reset settings in the Asus BIOS to default and I believe that may have contributed to the result I now have with very poor performance in FSX and other games.. One thing I noticed with RealTemp after this change from the BIOS was this: (The good one): http://billedeuploa…

Hello everyone, So my PC past a stress test fine, I just got my system fired up and after a few hours, installed RealTemp to review the temperatures whilst running FSX on high (whether high or low makes much of a difference I dont know), and whilst running FSX, my temps were between 60-85 degrees celcius. I have not overlocked, however CPU-Z indicates that my CPU is running on constant 4.4GHz even with no programs running. I don't know if this is normal. Keep in mind this is using the Antec Kuhler H2O 650 liquid cooling system. At idle the CPU runs generally 50+ degrees. Thanks in advance and any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Dan

  6. Hey all, Going to jump on the "critque my build" bandwagon. First time PC builder, looking for a peer review of the system I have specd out. Spent some time on a fewFSX specific system builder sites seeing what sort of systems they build, and then read through a majority of NickN's bible. I think I hit all the key spots. Was also pleased to see it came in below my self assigned budget. The common cry of "you can build it cheaper yourself" appears to indeed have merit! But again, as a first time builder, just want to make sure none of the finer details got missed, specificially when it comes to MOBO selection, memory, and perhaps even the case. OC'ing isn't an immed…

  7. Hey everyone, This is a real shot in the dark really (and maybe not even relevant to this forums section!), but because of this issue I cannot use voice on VATSIM, use Skype or other microphone communications. I am using apple earphones with a perfectly functional microphone (tested on old PC), but with my new PC and the sound card (if that is at fault maybe) Asus Crystal Sound 2.0, my microphone won't work, nor will Windows properly recognise it. The 'Sound Recorder' with Windows doesn't show any input with the moving green bar. I tried putting the earphones into all the 3.5 mm hacks but no luck. This is really irritating as the whole point of getting a new PC w…

  8. I've decided to finally pull the trigger and build a rig only for fsx. I plan on running one 40" led 1080p Samsung tv on it, and one Dell 20" monitor for gauges when I get the home cockpit set up. Other than that I may only buy some scenery here and there, some plane add ons like the pmdg 737 and will be on VATSIM. I set up a parts list but I'm having trouble choosing a motherboard. The motherboard I chose and 4790k are on a bundle deal. Also do I need any additional fans to start setting up than what's included with the case? I do not plan to overclock unless I am unhappy with the performance as I have never done that and not comfortable with that yet, but …

Hi. Will be building an M-ITX rig soon, mainly for CPU intensive gaming such as FSX, ARMA, Total War but also for Lightroom. As ITX only accepts max 16gb of RAM, I have to decide whether to go 2x8, 2x4 or 1x8. I don't need 16gb right now and I would rather put the cash to the GPU but I'm going for a 4790k and I don't want the benefits of the extra cache (I would overclock an i5 from the start and will overclock the i7 later) being lost through going single channel. I know dual channel doesn't do much but I'm keen to get some advice. Thanks a lot.

I am getting back into flight simming this year after some 15 years away and am determined to set myself up right so that frame rates etc do not frustrate me. I want to run PMDG's 737 NGX with some high end texture, weather and scenery add ons. Plus whatever else adds to the experience. The system I am considering is an Intel Core I7 LGA1150 4770K Quad core 5GHz 1TB 8GB RAM with a nVidea Geoforce GTX660Ti video card plus other bits and pieces. Am I on the right track or do I need to push for more power? Thank you

  17. Couple questions before purchasing. I currently have a 3930k OC@ 4.4Ghz I just had the luck to be able to get my hands on a motherboard from work for a great, great price and I couldn't resist. Its just that my 3930k does not fit the socket of this board (ASUS P8Z77-ws). My Problem: The board I currently own is from a stock Alienware rig I picked up a couple years back and I haven't changed it since my purchase. My current board only has one slot for 1 GPU and I'm looking to pick up a 2nd GTX 780 for when P3D v2.x eventually gets SLI support. So what I need help with is, should I put in this ASUS board I got from work and buy a 4770k or keep my existing 3…

Hello there, Ok, ok I play on a laptop but I managed to run FSX quite well actually. As a matter of fact, I never tried the [Jobscheduler] tweak on my proc because I never found the right value I need to use with my i5. Each website or topics I look in give me different value for the same scenario. Here is my proc : i5 460m. 2 cores with HT ( can nor deactivate HT in bios because there is no such option) so that gives me 4 threads. 2 cores with HT = 4 theads So what is the value I should try as Jobsheduler? Thanks in advance for your help, Best regards, Pierre

Hey guys, new to this forum but not so FSX! I'm building my own PC (soon) but I still can't decide between an Intel 4440 paired with a GTX 750Ti, or an AMA 6300 paired with an AMD R7 265... Could you guys help me? I do a mix between gaming and video editing and my budget is £700 or less (including monitor, win 8). I'm upgrading from my ancient Dell Inspiron 530 on the LGA 775 with a Core 2 Duo E7200 and an ATI Radeon 5450. Both systems have 8GB 1600MHz RAM. I also apologise for the layout (using an iPhone to type this). Thank you!

Hi guys, i'm considering upgrading my cpu and replacing my current i5 2500 (3,3Ghz) with the i7 4790K. Has anyone already upgraded from sandy bridge to devil's canyon? Could you report the performance differences you have seen, by posting specific before - after framerate numbers? I'm interested on stock performance comparisons, since i don't overclock. Also, i fly with 737 pmdg, rex 4 , asn, orbx +airport addons, so similar comparisons would be very helpfull. The rest of my system is: 4 giga ram 1333 xms3 corsair (have removed 4 giga due to a problem), gtx 770 2gb, cx600, 500 gb hdd. Thanks in advance`

Hey guys, it’s been a few years and it’s time to upgrade. I had been moving around over the last 5 years, so in 2011 decided to go with a gaming laptop from Sager for a few years. It was equipped with a stock i7-990x at 3.45 GHz and a GTX 485M. It was great for FS9, which was what I ran at the time. It could handle just about everything I threw at it in FS9, and ever ran FSX rather well. Now, with the release of the PMDG NGX and 777, it’s starting to show its’ age and imperfections (non-overclocked CPU and mobile GPU). I was one of the die hard FS9 supporters, but in my mind the release of products like those PMDG aircraft and ActiveSky Next puts FSX quality far above FS9…
