  1. Last weekend I built my new computer which I have been saving up for about 6 months and was really excited to use it. I have since ran into an issue with it freezing every few hours and when it freezes it almost always makes a loud buzzing noise from the speakers. Ocassionally it will blue screen but that has only happened a couple times and I'm not sure if that is related to this issue. I thought it might be an issue with overheating because it was running a little hotter than it should while idling (low 50s) so I took the heat sink fan off made sure it was seated properly and applied fresh thermal paste which seemed to fix the issue for awhile and it would sit around 30…

Seems like a lot of people upgrade often. But I've still got my 2500K. Anyway my OC fails every so often and I have to notch down because it won't let me raise the vcore anymore. I started at 4.4GHz and I'm at 4.2 now. I'm wondering if this happens to anyone else after three years of Sandy Bridge?

  4. Does anyone use a bigger tv for fsx? I got a 60 inch plasma. Does fsx work okay at 1080p on a big screen? Seems like it would be a little more realistic with everything much bigger than a 24 inch monitor. I know the image won't be as smooth lookin but might be worth trying out?

Does anyone run these or has done? I am doing it just now on maximum for IBT and so far so good everything is stable results are all the same. Do you guys who have these or similar run the GPU and CPU stress test together?

hi i have a desktop computer with i7950 GTX 580 i want to have a laptop that is still quite powerfull to run fsx nicely with PMDG 777, because a desktop computer takes too much space. I now that i'll be sacrifing some performance if I by a new laptop instead of a new desktop computer... What do you think of this one : http://www.materiel.net/ordinateur-portable/msi-gt70-2pe-1414fr-ssd-gtx-880m-101315.html Do you think that I can have better FPS compared to my current desktop computer ? I think yes because fsx doesn't use much the GPU, my gtx doesn't go above 45%, but my CPu is always at 100% thanks CMB

  7. I was thinking of upgrading my system with the above processors. I currently have to 980X overclocked to 4.4. But after looking at the specs, besides stock clock speed, my processor still has better specs than the 4790K. Has anyone made a similar jump and noticed big improvement? My processor is 4 years old and kind of find it weird it I still holding its own for being that old

  8. Hello everyone, So I am just finishing off the final touches of by build list and would like to know which of these coolers will fare best with the Intel i7-4790K. I would like to reach 4.5-4.7GHz if I was lucky (!), but which one will be best considering I am new to this and the H20 650 would cost me an extra $20. I would like one that is maintenance free, worth the money and would allow me to reach what I mentioned. I am only restricted to these two coolers with the company I have chosen, so no other possibilities such as the Corsair series. Thank you for your understanding. Cheers, Dan

HI So let me present my rig : i7 950 8 Go of RAM instead of 12Go ( 2*2Go died ) MSI x 58 Pro E GTX 580MSI Twin frozr II Thanks to my motherboard, I can OC hardware wise with the OC switch. By doing I can go up to 4.0GHz instead of the stock 3.07 GHZ the only issue that I have , is that only 4 or even 2 Go of Ram are reconized instead of 8Go, how is that possible ?? then when I switch back to the stock clock ( 3.07Ghz) I have my 8 Go, Crazy isn't it or is that normal ?? I can overclock with the bios but as i'm not skilly enough doing a such thing, I'm scared that i'll do the wrong thing. Any idea ? thanks CMB

So, while I am waiting for my computer to be rebuilt, I am looking for some suggestions on which add-ons go on what drive. I will have a 500 GB SSD and a 2TB HDD. FSX & Windows 7. My thought is to put Win7 and FSX on the SSD (separate folders), then I have the add-ons: PMDG 737 PMDG 777 Majestic Q400 ORBX FTX Global FSDT & FlightBeam airports PFPX & TOPCAT ASN vPilot ACARS So where do these add-ons go, the SSD or the HDD? Oh, and what do I do to make sure they all talk to each other? I appreciate any experienced input! Thanks

Hi all, Hopefully I can get some feedback regarding the below proposed system I'm looking towards for later in the year: CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K, 3.5GHz, Haswell 8MB MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-DH3 Socket 1150 ATX RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 2400MHz GRAPHICS: NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 3GB HDD: Seagate 1TB SATA-3 7200rpm PSU: Corsair AX860i 860W CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler CASE: Corsair Obsidian 650D Mid Tower I'm not sure about getting a SSD (size??) to put the OS (Win7 64Bit) onto with the HDD for flight sim stuff and anything else. I assume the above CPU can be overclocked to 4GHz - no previous experience with overclocking. An…

  12. Hi, Last year I bought an AMD FX6300 @ 3.5Ghz, Turbo up to 4.1Ghz (technically a 3 core 6 thread CPU) and recently an R9 270 GPU. It greatly improved performance in FSX compared to a previous old core2duo. Even better in Prepar3D. Recently I got an Acer laptop, thin and portable with only moderate casual gaming in mind, it has a Core i5-4200U @ 1.6Ghz, Turbo up to 2.6Ghz (a 2 core CPU with 4 threads) with an NVIDIA GT750M GPU (in optimus) and in turns out that this laptop runs just as good if not sometimes better than my main desktop rig? I compared settings and loaded up addon scenery with addon aircraft and the FPS is mostly similar (in Prepar3D) In FSX…

  13. Hello pilots,I was wondering if you can help me. I bought a Crucial M500 2.5" SSD 480GB and I want to setup FSX. I'm currently running FSX on my Win 7 Pc with 2 x 1TB Hard Drives RAID 0. I'm planning to run FSX and ADDONS on SSD and leave the OS on the HDD. 1.What are the steps and procedures, is there a step by step tutorial on how to config and setup? 2.Is it just a matter of plug and play since I don't intend to move OS or I need to go through BIOS Config in order for me to transfer FSX from HDD to SSD. 3.What would work best OS+FSX on SSD or separate them. Thanks in advance.. Best Regards LdeeFSx247

Hi everyone. I'm a longtime FSXer and I have finally decided to take the leap into building my own rig for Flight Simming. I don't know that much about the individual components and the exact details in terms making the best choice for parts. My friend (another longtime simmer) has been helping me put together a list of parts to buy, but since he's out of the country at the moment (and also not completely an expert), I figured it would be best to ask the pros here at the Avsim forums. While I understand that FSX simply doesn't allow 40 fps after maxing out every slider, I am hoping this new rig will allow me to have good scenery settings, fly high quality aircraft (l…

  16. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but the new version (5.x) supposedly included code from Riva Tuner and it was not supposed to do so. The early versions were legal clones of Rivatuner, but over time EVGA replaced most of the legacy code and thought that they had removed all of it. The new version of EVGA Precision X has been removed from the EVGA download site until these changes can be made. My current PC suffered a motherboard and GPU failure last night. Since it is nearly three years old, I have decided to purchase a brand new PC rather than pay a significant sum to repair the old one. That being the case, I would like to know what everyone here considers to be a decent CPU for a new PC in 2014. I have been looking at the i5 4690k. The stock frequency appears to be 3.5Ghz, but I want to be able to overclock it to 4.5Ghz. I have been told that Asus motherboards enable overclocking to be done from the desktop, and the motherboard I have been looking at is the Asus Z97-A. Bear in mind here that I am not looking for absolute top of the range parts in this P…

How do they simulate the full flight simulator? Do they use a lot of cpu to connect them serial, for example altitude from 0 to 255 feet, then switch to next CPU from 256 to 511 feet, and so on ? Do they make many small CPU parts for each instrument ? Specialist computer ?

  20. I have had this computer for about 4 years now and it is a good time for me to upgrade (see my PC specs and add-ons in profile). I am replacing the MOBO, adding a 4690K CPU overclock to about 4.2 GHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB SSD and a GTX 770 video card. The rebuild is being done by the OEM. So in preparation, I have backed up the computer to a portable drive. The OEM will do a clean reinstall of Win 7 Professional onto the SSD, but I think they will wipe the 2TB HDD when they do so. On the machine now, FSX is run through the x86 Program files (because I didn't know any better). I am thinking when the machine comes back, I will be installing FSX to the SSD along wi…

  22. Hi All, looking for feedback on my first try at putting together an FSX build The usage will be in running FSX gold. Also the sim's primary purpose will be to augment real world flight training (sport ticket) Looking at purchasing through either ibuypower or cyberpowerpc. Both builders offer a huge choice of mobos and video cards, so it's a bit overwhelming.. I started with some common advice I've gathered from these forums - a Z97 mobo and a 4790K CPU - powersupply needed? the configurator says 500 watts is sufficient - mobo - went with Asus - I've had great luck with them in my custom builds - video don't want to go too crazy - maybe just some basic…

  23. Hi all, I'm helping a friend spec out a pc suitable for running fsx, although they might explore prepar3d or xplane down the line. They do NOT want to build it themselves. Are there any good vendors anybody has experience in? The only one I've heard of so far is http://www.originpc.com/ Any ideas on what specs to go with? I'm totally out of touch with the best cpu/graphics cards. ram - i'm assuming at least 8 - maybe 16 makes a difference if xplane? Thanks for any help.

Good day I've been wondering about installing a second hard drive dedicated to FSX. I have a dell XPS 4352 with an i7, 2.67 GHZ with 10 GB Ram running windows 7/64. Would it be as painful as re-installing on a new computer, or can you "mirror" the FSX section onto the new drive? Thanks Gary
