Hello, I am currently looking to buy a computer for flight simulator X. At this point, I am looking at 2 desktops : a Dell i3847-5077BK, which has the i5-4440 3.1GHZ processor (HD 4600 graphics), 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD and Windows 7 Home Premium - and add the EVGA GT 620 2048MB Video Card. Or, I could get this used desktop with the i7-2600 3.4GHZ processor with the Nvidia GT 405 video card. Here is the link to the Dell : http://www.microcenter.com/product/427790/Inspiron_3000_Desktop_Computer Here is the link to the second computer, an HP : http://cnj.craigslist.org/sys/4488144851.html What is your opinion on which computer to get? Thank you!

Hello all! I currently have chosen these parts for my first PC build for FSX http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ddYfFT What type of performance can I expect with that hardware running some common payware addons like FSDT, PMDG, ORBX...etc. Is there anything I can improve on that will increase performance other then the processor? Thanks! Sean

Hi Guys Thanks for having a look at this. I have my suspicions regarding this issue, but would prefer not to say what I think it might and see if someone else may have the same thought. I currently have both p3dv2.2 and fsx running in dx 10 mode. I recently upgraded my system to an i7 4930k oc to 4.5 an evga 780ti classified a rampage 4 extreme mobo and 16gb of ram.I also changed the casing and put a corsair 110 cpu water cooler in.about the only things that I left from my old setup was the psu (xpower pro gtx extreme 950w)and hard drive(Seagate) Now the problem on the last few occasions I have run p3d I have the BSOD with various bug codes but not always the same …

Hello! I'm not too up to speed anymore with computers, so I'm hoping somebody maybe able to help me. I've been using FSX for a while now with various add ons, usually manage about 20fps with medium-high settings but now I'm slowly starting to struggle to achieve decent FPS especially with the recent additon of the PMDG 777 and having to use VC. Would upgrading my graphics card make much of a difference to FSX and improve my FPS, or is my CPU limiting me? Specs are as follows: Quad Core 2 Q8200 2.33Ghz 640GB HDD 4GB RAM 800MHz Nvidia 9800GT 500W PSU I do beleive it is possible to overclock the CPU, is this easily done and recommended for a relative amateur? A…

Hi Guys, Not posted here for a long time! Recently treated myself to a Microsoft Surface Pro 2, and despite many friends and colleagues calling me insane, I rather like it! I'm quite tempted to try installing FSX on it and see how it works. I'm obviously not expecting miracles as it is basically a laptop spec but I'm sure it'll at least run albeit maybe not the best graphics. For anyone unfamiliar with the Surface Pro this one is the 8GB RAM model, with an Intel Core i5 4300U processor running on integrated graphics - obviously I know they're not great for gaming but apparently the Haswell integrated graphics is a lot better than most? What do you think? …

i7 4770K GTX 780 EVGA FTW edition 16g 1866 Corsair Vengeance Cooler Master Seidon 240M Liquid Cooling GIGABYTE G1.SNIPER Z97 ATX Moba I was using an aging rig with Majestic Dash-8 running fairly smoothly with FTX Global and Vector, ASN, Rex 4 textures, and Shade. All in DX10 with the fixer. (PMDG 737 was choppy but flyable.) All settings were rather meager. I guess my questions are multi-faceted. What is a good target to overclock to? What settings for the base FSX should I shoot for, and are there any other scenery add-ons that I should be thinking about now that I have a nice rig coming in? Thanks a lot guys.

Windows 8.1 / 64, GTX580/2GB, running P3D v2.2. I'm looking for some utility software that can temporarily shut down non-essential services and applications, maybe defrag memory, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for such an application? I'm a little "gun-shy". some time ago I downloaded WinRAR after googling from what I assume was an unreputable site- I installed it and got myself a "hostage-ware" virus (now long gone, thanks to HitMan Pro and Malware Bytes)... So any links to a reliable source would also be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce.

I am moving this summer, and have recently realized I am in desperate need of a new computer. My current, low-end HP laptop cannot run the PMDG 737, REX4, and default scenery on low settings above 15 fps at best. On top of that, (I think because Im running windows 8), it keeps freezing and acting all wonky. For all the reasons listed above, I have decided to go ahead and get a good desktop. I am going to build, so I can start within my budget and upgrade when I get the money. Before i list my budget, here are my requirements -at least 20 FPS, SMOOTH, at the current settings meeting all other requirements (I will attach photos of my settings) -able to run PMDG 737 or 77…

I'm updating an existing computer that has a Gigabyte Z68 series motherboard with a new SSD. Win 7 64x. The existing configuration has the motherboard mode set to Raid(XHD) and it uses a 60 GB SSD to "accelerate", or act as a cache for, a standard 500 GB HD, using Intel Smart Response. On the Intel Rapid Storage gui, the ssd is listed as RAID 0, and the standard HD is listed as "Accelerated Drive". It is my understanding that the TRIM command for the SSD is not supported in a RAID configuration. That's ok, for this SSD. However....I've now added into the mix a 480 GB OCZ SSD to act as the main storage area for flight sim and others. It is not part of the Raid…

Hi all, This is my last hope before I send my laptop off to Asus for them to look at the problem. Basically, I have horrendous crackling/popping sounds coming from my Asus G750JW laptop speakers/headphones. Since I bought the laptop last year, the crackling has existing from the speakers. 99% of the time however I have a headset or earphones plugged in and there was never any crackling sound. Yesterday I formatted the laptop in order to return to Windows 7 but the crackling problem has got worse - it is now unbearable from the speakers AND through a headset/earphones. I feel like I have tried everything to solve the problem. I have tried numerous aud…

Alright guys, After countless hours of researching, I can't begin to tell you how much "this and that" kind of information I found on the topic of "the best FSX gaming setup". Let me be straight up with you, I am on a tight budget. I can't spare close to the amount of money some people seem to be throwing at their FSX computers. I've been playing on a mid-performance ASUS laptop, and here are the facts. My Laptop: Windows 8 64bit Intel i5-4200 @ 2.3GHz 6GB of RAM This laptop, using very low FSX settings with the PMDG 777 and FSDT Los Angeles add-ons, will average around 15-20FPS. (sometimes under 15FPS while on the ground) What I Would Like: Build a…

Hello forum- Over the past years, I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone with Microsoft, and I have spent hundreds of dollars on new computers the were supposed to "be fast enough." And it all has been a big waste. It wasn't until a few weeks ago, I really understood what it takes to run FSX with the performance many of the big simmers have today. I currently have a AMD FX 8320 Eight Core processor, and my performance in FSX (w/ pay ware planes at pay ware airports) is atrocious. So I looked through Youtube at all of the big names, IFlySimX, iFlyMax737, and I saw that they have- Intel i7 (around) 4770K, processors. And I have found exactly that. An Intel…

Hi All I'd like to make my flights a bit more realistic by replacing my joystick with a yoke, however I have a couple of questions: Would it replace a joystick altogether or would it need to be used alongside a joystick? I don't have room for rudder pedals, would I be able to taxi using the yoke left and right? I'm guessing not, and if that's the case I may need to use it alongside a twist yoke joystick to taxi? Will a yoke work with the Aerosoft A320? And can anyone recommend a setup that doesn't cost the earth but has the basic functionality I need? Thanks in advance

Hi! I want to build a PC and I would like some tips. My budget is around £1000. I already have a screen, mouse and keyboard, so the buget is for the PC itself. Anyone willing to give me a setup that will let me run all sorts of add-ons with the frames locked at 30? Thank you in advance! I'm happy to hear from you Regards, Eric Lund
