My gut feeling is that I'm not sure there would be much of an improvement with a RAM upgrade, but thought someone could give me their opinion, hopefully from someone with practical experience of a similar upgrade. I currently run a SB2500 @ 4.6ghz with a GTX770 4Gb on an Asus P8Z68-V motherboard. I have two 4Gb RAM sticks running at 1600mhz. My question is, could I benefit, albeit slightly, of an upgrade to some RAM running at 2400Mhz. Would it be of little consequence? Could the MB take advantage of a RAM upgrade? If anyone could offer some specific advice on this I'd be grateful. Also, perhaps point me in the direction of some good fast RAM. BTW: holding my hand in the …

Hi all. I am hoping for some guidance regarding temps on cpu. My 3570k on stock heatsink and cooler (I think, bought the system pre built) seems to be running hot. Using hw monitor, at idle it reads around 35c across all cores. During fsx use this gets up to mid 80s even touching 90s. If I run prime 95 when at stock speeds after about 2-3 minutes the temps hit high 90s which is the throttling temp for this cpu. Obviously with those temps an overclock is pointless as it will hit throttling temps pretty quick. The cpu fan is running at full speed 2000rpm. Whats goin on here? Surely temps should be better even on stocks. My gpu (gtx 670) runs cool at mid 20's to 30's so …

Hi All, Just before I go ahead and purchase, can I run it past someone please? I am based in the UK so this type of deal may sound familiar. I'm considering dropping some cash on an SSD, as I'm really frustrated with massive loading times and I'm also convinced my HDD is possibly contributing to the long amount of time it takes to render terrain textures sharply when I am panning around in spot view. Obviously this is going to be a massive undertaking to reinstall my FSX complete with mesh, global, traffic packages, 50+ payware airports, weather software....etc etc, so I'm looking for some assurance from others who have gone HDD>SSD that it will make a big impact in terms of sim loading times etc. Also, I'm only planning on installing FSX onto this drive, it will be exclusively for FSX. But I don'…

Is it safe? My overclock is very stable and has been the same way for around 18 months. I am reinstalling Windows soon onto a brand new SSD and I really don't want to have to "re-do" my overclock (unless it is categorically unsafe to install Windows on an OC'd machine) I will bow down to the superior knowledge available here, as I am not an IT expert by any stretch. Thanks

I am about to pull the trigger on a computer build. I'm not a tech guru by any stretch of the imagination. Does anyone know enough about the coming Haswell "Refresh" chip in Q2 to tell me if it is worth waiting for it? Like, will there be an improved clock speed and does anyone know if they have changed the heat transference substance under the lid? My guess is it's not going to be worth the wait ... and I am NOT waiting for the Broadwell at the end of the year. I suppose it is all rumor mill ... but I haven't read anything conclusive ... Thanks for you thoughts and opinions.

Hello, I have had a recent problem, on pressing the on/off power button on top of my Antec case it doesn't turn on I have to press it a few times. Or press it slowly to turn the PC on. Any ideas? This is my case - how do I get the front panel off to check connections/button? http://www.ebuyer.com/245777-antec-902-nine-hundred-two-v3-gaming-case-0761345-15924-1?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products&gclid=CJ3w6IeD3rwCFUQUwwoddisABw

I thought I had the back up BIOS fan settings in a safe zone, but apparently not. For some odd reason it decided not to take command of fan control, the profile changed all my itself, and in the midst of a long flight session I notice very warm air coming out of my typically very well cooled HAFx case. I have been able to run my SB-E at 4.55Ghz at 133v prior to this event, where core temps got up in the 80-85 range for I don't know how long. The CPU fan was coasting along at the Quiet mode setting of 200-300rpms!! When I finally noticed this I looked at Fan Xpert, selected my former Custom mode, and temps dropped right back down. Now if I try to run my CPU at 4.55 sh…

Hey guys and girls  Ok, this is my computer system. 750watt psu 6gigabytes 1866mhz ram intel core i7 920 @ 3.5ghz. 7200rpm harddisk. ATI Radeon HD7850 I don't have any issues in the way FSX runs. That is that other sims or games run much more rapidly. But having seen various videos and complaints I consider my smoothness quite acceptable if nore more. Having read various guides online made that possible. Im referring to guides like most notoriously NickN guides but other guides aswell. I have read all those guides aswell as just reading random peoples opinion on the internet. And all these people say that Nvidia is better in FSX then a Radeon GPU. …

Hi. I am going abroad in a couple of weeks for work - be there for 1-2 years: a long time to be without FS9!! I decided not to take my FS PC for now, but to use my Dell XPS M1730 (gaming laptop), which used to run FS9 really well. But having reinstalled FS9 the results are pretty shocking. After a bit of analysis, I could see why: the CPU runs at 40% or more all the time, with no applications loaded. Ran MSConfig and tried again, but with the same result. Task Manager shows no CPU usage from running processes, but Process Explorer shows 40-50% under Hardware Interrupts. So been Googling this, but it's all very depressing. No improvements... I checked that my HD is…

Hi all, I'm pretty new to FSX and this forum. I'm currently running FSX on a pretty average-low end laptop, just learning to fly using the default aircraft and built-in lessons. I have no addons except UTX Canada (not installed yet) and the ORBX Iceland Demo (because it's free, and if it ruins performance I can choose not to fly there). I'm already somewhat addicted to this sim though and can envision throwing myself head-on into this hobby. With that in mind I'm planning my FSX system build and looking for some advice. I do have a budget though. Here's what I have so far from PC Part Picker Canada: CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core (hoping to overcl…

Hey All, I currently run X-Plane 10 on my 2011 Macbook Pro and I want to build a new computer for flight simming. I flew FSX several years back but when I got a Mac I was forced over to X-Plane. I enjoy flying X-Plane but I am unsure if I should switch back to FSX or even pick up p3d once I build a new computer. I need some advice on building for flight sims! ... 370W, from my APC UPS's realtime power usage display, and I am running both my processor & GPU at full load, and I'm using a Corsair 850W PSU, if I add a 2nd GTX Titan, will I be ok for my PSU's rating? It has a 70A single 12v rail I think I read, FWIW. What I don't understand is how the '850W' rating on my PSU relates to the APC UPS's displayed power usage. Is one A/C, the other D/C, for example? Anyway, I really don't want to have to swap out this PSU as it's great and only 7mo old. I think I'm fine w/ a 2nd Titan but I think in part it may depend on whether we are talking A/C versus D/C or not. What do you know...for sure? Many thanks in advanc…

Hi. I have been abroad for several months, and as this is the case fairly regularly I have left my trusty MS Sidewinder 2 joystick over there for future trips - saves a bit of suitcase room. That means I have to use my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro back here in the UK. This is the 2nd. one I have had in two years - and the second one which has given up the ghost after a fairly short time - the rudder control is hopeless now, with planes swerving all over the taxiways with a mind of their own. (They behave impeccably with the Sidewinder). I've spent hours recalibrating, posting to Logitech forums - but the inevitable conclusion is that the joystick is a waste of space and I shal…

Hi all First of all, I have absolutely no knowledge of any PC Hardware technology. I want to upgrade my current pc to a high end FSX/P3D PC where I can run for example a PMDG 737 from FSDT KLAX to Flightbeam KSFO with AI Traffic and REX clouds and still have a performance of way over 20 fps. Will that even be realisitc? Well, I'll just post my plans first: Current pc specs CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2,83 GHZ (OC to 3,2) Motherboard: No idea RAM: 4GB Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4770 HD: 1TB PC itself: I have air intakes at the front, one fan at the top and a fan at the back. both fans can be adjusted with …
