When i built my last system, i THOUGHT i was being clever by purchasing and installing one of those sealed liquid CPU coolers. It was the H80. I've always had problems getting and sustaining a decent overclock. I've just 'junked' the H80 and replaced it with the best air cooler I've EVER had; the Noctua NH-D14. What a stunning piece of kit. How the hell did I ever miss this? And whats more, even at reduced RPM it gives far, far better cooling than the H80 ever did!!! I still can't achieve the magic 5GHz, but at 4.8, the CPU is running 9 degs cooler when at max load than it was previously, AND doing that almost silently. Yes that's NINE degrees less than with …

I heard from a few that using a ram frequency of 2133 can cause latency issues in FSX. Does anyone have any further confirmation on this? I have 16GB of 2133, in what way would reducing it to 1600 affect FSX? Thanks!

Hello! Since I'm really impressed with the maximum graphics of FSX+add-ons in 2014 I wanted to buy a new computer. I already found one which is specifically designed for the requirements of FSX. The specs: Intel i7-4770 over-clocked to 4,4 GHz, GTX 760 and 8 GB DDR3-1866 memory. I want to know how FSX will look and work with the system I planned to buy. I found this amazing FSX video with a similar system: I know that this video is very well edited and that the simulation won't look as fluid. But I would like to know what I can expect from my system. Do you think the video still represents whats possible with these specifications quite well? Or is it edited ve…

With NVidia inspector I set my FPS limiter to 30, when I am in external views or in a not so cpu intense areas my frame rates spike dramatically as high as 70 fps, even with inspector my FPS are all over the place, I have tried using the default limiter but I take a huge frame rate hit when trying this so it is not an option for me. I have tried different drivers and am currently using the latest from NVidia 335.23. I always make sure I do a clean install and have even used driver cleaners in the past. I have regenerated numerous FSX.cfg files and I cant seem to figure out why the FPS limiter does not work and cant find anything on the internet. Any help would be appreci…

I've just fitted SSD's to hold my FS-X installation and thought I would share the experience. First of all I put in one 240G SSD to hold my FS-X system then later installed a second SSD in to take the OS and other software. The final figures after installing both SSD's are in bold. Starting the program to appearance of the free flight menu: was 45 secs, with one SSD 22 secs, with 2xSSD : 26 secs Loading the aircraft choice screen from the free flight menu: was 25 secs, with one SSD 13 secs, with 2xSSD : 11 secs Loading a flight from the free flight menu to sitting in the cockpit: was 4 minutes 30 secs, with one SSD 3 minutes, with 2xSSD : 1minute 24 secs Certai…

Need your experience here. I had built a new system a couple of months back. Here are the specs: 1. Intel 4670k overclocked to 4.3 ghz 2. 8gb 2133mghz ram 3. Corsair H110i water cooler 4. Nvidia GTX 770 ACX supercooled 4gb 5. Corsair 650w power supply the problem here is that with P3Dv2.1 and Xplane my system shutsdown after 10-15 mins. Initially I thought that its because of the overclock. I got it down to 3.5Ghz and it still shutsdown after 15 mins. This does not happen with FSX. Stress test with other tools goes fine with CPU testing. But when I stress test the GPU the system dies down after 10-15 mins. The GPU temp has been undercontrol at 77.Since P3Dv2 and Xplane h…

But then I noticed it was a TLC SSD. As in triple layer cell... meaning shorter lifespan than the more pricey MLC format. I knew their prices seemed too good to be true.... Still the Evo benches extraordinarily well even against its big brother the 840 Pro. Anyone have any lifespan problems with TLC drives? I know SSD's are still sort of new I've had a Mushkin SATA II for about 3 years (It must be TLC but I'm not sure... edit: looks like it is an MLC no wonder it's still kickin)

After using a Jetline Systems computer for the last several years, I decided to get a new one built (need more space for Addons, and just looking for that Holy Grail). I've been so pleased with Jetline, that I wouldn't think of going anywhere else, and I'm not really talented enough to build my own. I do not work for Jetline nor do I have any vested interests. Just want to share, because in about 7 days, I should get this beauty: Microsoft Windows 7 Premium 64 bit CM Storm Scout 2 Advanced Black Chasis with Side Window Asus Z87 PRO LGA 1150 Intel Z87 Intel Core i7 4770K (4.4GHz Overclock) Quad Core Antec 930 Dual Stage CPU Liquid Cooler 16GB HyperX DDR3 SDRAM 2133…

On a budget, here's what I've pieced together on pcpartpicker.com ... http://pcpartpicker.com/user/mesaba116/saved/47L2 Any general thoughts are appreciated, and I have a specific question about overclocking and cooling -- If I want to take the i5-3570K just slightly up over 4 GHz, would air cooling be sufficient? I don't intend to go crazy and push the OC, so I don't necessarily want to buy liquid cooling that might not be needed. Anyway, comments are welcome. Thanks Kevin

Hi everyone. This is my first post (ever!!!), so pls be gentle Anyway, I need advice on whether to buy a new CPU (plus motherboard and new RAM obviously) or GPU. On my PC I only play FSX, by the way. My current rig: i7 920 2,67 @ 3,6 ASUS P6T DELUXE V2 6gb DDR3 CM3X2G1600C8D EVGA GTX 570 1,2gb WIN 7 Now, I know that upgrading the whole thing would be the best solution, but money is unfortunately an issue. Eventually I will upgrade everything, but I need to take it in steps. I'm currently running 737NGX, REX Essential Plus, a couple of add-on airports (many more to come), EKZA, and UT2. In the NGX I get around 15-20 FPS on ground - over 25 in air.…

Hey guys, it´s quite some time since I build my machine and it´s workling good till now, but the RAM has now started to become an limiting factor. I do only hacve 4 GB atm, a neat set of Mushkin DDR3 1600MHz ones which are pretty good and solid. As the 4 GB are constatnly fulkly used, not only in FSx but in other games I´m playing, I think of replacing them with 8 GB of the same company. But I don´t really have a clue which ones to get, being fast and affordable the same time. Can someone help me out on this?

Hi guys, I have my CPU set up to run at 4.3 oc and according to all the monitors i see it is doing just that. But it only seems to switch from the stock speed of 3.3 when i place it under a load. I feel that this is causing me a problem that i could fix if it is posable to have it stay on OC. all the time. I only us this computer for Flitsim. I thought i had read some place where that is posable but i cant find it now. I have the TPU switch on the MOB turned on so the OC.is automatic and the EPU switch is off. Any info will greatly appreciated. Please see my PC spec for that info. Thanks, Bob

Hi all I am hoping for some guidance. I was a massive fs2004/fsx simmer however I have been away from it for about 18 months or so. I sold my old rig which predominantly ran fs2004. However I am looking to get back into fsx and put a new system together but could do with advice on systems and where to start as im a bit out of touch. Ive built systems before so I am least ok with putting them together! The system will be for fsx only and I am looking to run med to med high settings with a decent frame rate. I will be using a few payware addons - pmdg, traffic, weather, airport scenery and the odd mesh/textures. As always am looking for the best bang for buck I can…

Hi all, I've spent a number of weekends learning about and trying to overclock my i7-4700k. I believe I finally have a stable overclock of 4.2 Ghz. But as I'm very new to overclocking CPUs, I just want to make sure that my system is running at safe temperature ranges; I don't to damage the system in the long run just to jump from 3.5 to 4.2ghz. Does anyone use a tool while running FSX to monitor their temps? So far, I've been using HWMonitor and just switching between FSX and that program or using FSX in window mode and having it side by side with HWMonitor. Last night I set up a flight and it fly on auto-pilot for about 40 mins. I checked in on HWMonitor and the max …

It seems Asus have annoyed a few purchasers. I don't know about you, but my preferred method of overclocking is via the UEFI. However, the Asus 4 way optimisation, auto overclocking feature is useful for many. Great for giving you an idea as to what your system can do, and also as a starting point prior to fine tuning. Also useful for those not too experienced with overclocking. Well, the Asus ROG boards, are supplied with 4 way optimisation within Ai Suite 3, but there's a problem. The 4 way optimisation that comes with the ROG boards is nothing like the utility within the mainstream boards. In fact the overclocking function is primitive. Rather than running a …

I recently acquired a couple of new SSD drives, a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB [Windows and applications] and a Sandisk Ultra Plus 250GB drive [for FSX exclusively - at least for now]. For the first time ever, I am putting FSX on a different drive although I have not really had issues with putting it in the default location - usually by running everything as Administrator and turning UAC off. Doing it more because it is what is often advised on forums and by FSX software add on developers themselves. Must say, never been totally convinced about this as regardless of where FSX is installed, it will still install several files to the drive where Windows is installed. For e…

This is my mobo: http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3759#ov Have I been wrong in thinking this entire time I had SATA III functionality?!? It looks like my board might only have a native SATA II controller?!? I know my current Mushkin ssd is SATA II - I knew that going into it because at the time sata III drives were realllllly pricey. The 500 GB sata III Evo dropped to 250.... and I was about to pull the trigger but I wanted to be sure my board supports the higher speed. Additionally, a few months ago I read something (maybe by Bob wk6d) that if another non sata III drive is plugged into that same series even the SSD will run at sa…

Hello Fliers, I hope this is the right place for this because my only flight sim is P3dv2.1 now. As we all know our flight plans are connected to the system time clock. My problem is with the system time clock not keeping correct time. I have a Sabertooth Z 87 MB and my system is 8 months old with a factory OC. I have never had a minutes problem with the clock until I cloned my HD to a larger GB HD because I was running out of GB space. The clone was successful, however, after the clone, next day I noticed the windows 7 64 bit clock was wrong. I went into the BIOS to check the system clock and it was wrong also. It was the same time as the windows clock. After reset of th…

Hello, since I overclocked my system and turned HT off, it won't boot normally (The problem doesn't persist when leaving HT on though). When pressing the pwr button the fans spin up for 1 sec, system shuts off and then reboots. It's annoying as hell and I didn't find anything helpful on the internet. I read this is a common issue with ASUS mainboards, but what about ASRock? Any suggestions? Specs are in my profile. Thanks in advance!
