I am looking for a semi-portable system to run fsx. I would like to be able to store the system when not in use at my kitchen table. I am confined to this room at night due to some responsibilities. At first I considered laptops but wondered if an all in one pc such as this Dell XPS one 27 could work: http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-27-2720-aio/pd?refid=xps-27-2720-aio&baynote_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch&isredir=true It doesn't need to travel from outside the house just from room to room. Maybe there is a solution I have not even considered. Thanks for any help!

Hi all, I'm flying P3D v2 almost all the time now. Works pretty good, but I'm wondering if a system upgrade will help my frames/smoothness/ability to use lots of addons. I fly with: photoscenery very frequently (usually very hi-res homemade stuff), Orbx with lots of autogen other times. I like lots of AI traffic, REX 4 clouds, OPUS and complex airports on occasion. Currently using an OC'd i7 950 @4000MHz that was built specifically for FSX with the best components I could find 3 years ago. I updated the video card last Christmas with an EVGA 680 FTW with 4 gig of memory. Three questions: Do you think I'd see much improvement with a Haswell (or Ivy Brid…

Hello guys, A year ago I lost my Windows Gaming PC to opt for a Macbook Air, just because i had no more time to play FSX. Nowadays I want to purchase a Desktop PC to play FSX again. This must be a Mac, so don't opt for a Windows PC please. I want to purchase a Mac for school, and with bootcamp, to play FSX. I want to play it on the highest settings with add ons like REX, FTX Global. PMDG aircraft and some great airport sceneries. As FSX is the most CPU sensitive (and less GPU) I know a good CPU is important. My decision goes between the two configurations below (iMac or Mac Pro). Can you help me with my decision? What will you recommend to play FSX on my standards?…

Hello all, I'm getting back into flight sim and want to start with a hardware upgrade, i have been quoted the following upgrade components and am wondering if there is any overkill here or a bottle neck. I want the system to be able to run FSX or P3D v2 or x-plane whichever i decided to stick with.. most likely P3D. i7 4770k CPU Asus maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150 motherboard Kingston KHX1600C9D3 memory Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H801 windows 8.1 Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD MSI GTX 780 3GB video card Corsair 750W power another question i have is how high can i overclock this safely? 8. I'm doing a core upgrade to my system (Q9550 w/ 8GB DDR2 800 to i7-4770K w/ 16GB DDR3 2400) and I've been thinking about possibly including an SSD as part of the upgrade. The catch, though, is that my budget is pretty tight after the purchase of a new cpu, mobo, and ram, and the planned purchase of three new monitors (all identical because I have a mishmash now) and a better video card later on in the year, so I certainly won't be able to get more than one, or anything much larger than about 120GB. The question then would be, does it make more sense to buy a smaller one for windows only, or a little larger one for FSX only, keeping in mind that my FSX install is usually o…

  10. Hello all, Just in time for my exams, my two year old laptop's motherboard died. I was planning on buying a desktop later this year (unsatisfied with my current performance, which, I must admit is surprisingly okay for my specs...but it is showing its age), so I suppose now is as good a time as ever to buy the desktop, as the repair for the laptop will likely be $500+ I guess you could say, in terms of my knowledge of computers, I'm slightly above average- but no more than that. I understand all of the basic components of a computer and their functions, however I lack the skill and/or knowledge to build my own computer successfully. Being a student in my final yea…

I am doing some market research in the flight sim community in regards to hardware purchases and preferences. Any information is greatly appreciated, I have included a link to a survey monkey survey, only 6 questions. I am simply curious what drives us (the aviation simulation community) when it comes to our hardware. Thanks! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/X6LHM5F

While clearing out my stuff, I found a 120mm PC case fan, and am wondering whether it is worth installing it into my new PC. When connected to 12V, it spins a lot faster and seems to move a lot more air than the fans I have installed now. The case has 3 existing fans plus the fan on the CoolerMaster H212 CPU cooler. They are front, side (intakes) and rear (exhaust). There is provision to put another fan at the front of the case or to mount one on the opposite side of the CPU cooler (in a sucking configuration). What would be the best place to mount this extra fan?

What do you think ? Here a comparison between the 4770 - 3960 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18527600

In a few weeks I will be building my new rig. I currently have a Samsung 840 EVO SSD with Windows 7 64 bit OEM, my question is - will I have problems with installing the SSD into my new build with the OS being OEM? I do believe OEM OS is tied to your motherboard, so seeing as though I will have a new motherboard will I have to reinstall Windows on the EVO?

Hello folks, I am considering an upgrade for my machine, mainly to run FSX better. I'm tired of getting CTD's, low fps, tweak this, tweak that... Problem is I'm not sure whether to upgrade the graphics card or cpu + motherboard. I know FSX likes cpu power and I would possibly get better results with a new one, but since my graphics card is dated and a possible bottleneck... While im ok with 4.0 and never drop below 20 for frames would i notice a difference overclocked to 4.2 from 4.0, just curious cause it would require a quite a bit more in vcore to reach the 4.2 but my temps are not a factor so its just about power compsumption now?

Ok guys, I want to upgrade my CPU. My current mobo supports these CPU's below so for a simple plug and go upgrade which of the following should I go for, I will be mostly playing prepar3d and a bit of FSX. currently I have the 4100+ But I feel like it hits 100% too often and causes stutters. So the question I am not sure of is, should I be going for the 8 core with slower clock speed or the 4 or 6 core with the highest clock speed possible? Lets just say for arguments sake they all cost exactly the same and price should not be a factor in this decision AMD Opteron 3280 2400MHz 1MBx8 8MB Bulldozer 32nm B2 65W 5200 F9 AMD Opteron 3260 2700MHz 1MBx4 4MB Bulldozer 32nm B…

  19. My computer is about 6 years old and my hard drive is getting full. The puter still works fine and I don't want to replace it at this point so I'm thinking i should just add a second internal hard drive. Now the reason I am asking is because I'm an idiot with computers and really have no experiance building them or switching hardware etc. I did look on You-tube and it appears to be easy as long as you have the room, cables etc. So assuming I do: 1) what would be a good Hard Drive to get these days? If it matters the current one is a Seagate 320 GB SATA 16MB 7200RPM 3 GB NCQ. I'm running windows XP home. 2) Is there any drawbacks to having a second hard drive t…

Hey guys, I purchased a new computer last month and all seems well. I just have a couple questions. I have a 128GB SSD and 1TB 7200 HDD. Right now I have FSX as the only thing installed on my HDD. SSD running windows. However, I just purchased megasceneryearth and I know it should be on it's own HDD. I can't afford to buy another HDD so what would be the solution for me here? Install FSX and photo scenery on HDD, or FSX on SSD and photo scenery on HDD? Also, when I start up FSX after about a minute I get what sounds like a pop in my speakers and then it goes away. I have BOSE speakers and have tried the onboard Realtek. Both the same.
