Hello all, This weekend I went and purchased the new components I was considering in this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/416543-if-i-could-upgrade-1-or-2-things-on-my-system/page-2#entry2847662 Part of this included the Maximus VI Formula and Corsair Dominator 2133 CL9 (2x4GB) RAM. While I'm still trying to piece together everything I'll have to reinstall, I'm seeing something strange with my RAM. While it's recognized as 8GB, leaving my BIOS on auto, my system seems to think it is 1333 MHz rather than 2133. Selecting 2133 in my BIOS, it notifies me the RAM is "DDR3 1333 running at 2133 MHz" and even CPU-Z says it is running at 1096 (or sometimes as low as 667) M…

I want to share my further findings with regards to FSX and the PCIe bus. I earlier upgraded my system to a SandyBridge-E system and recently I did a further upgrade with the EVGA GTX780 SC. That made it possible to use PCIe 3.0 for the first time. I also wanted to see what difference I could see against my old GTX470. I use a 10.5 minute flight for my test (FSXmark07 flightpath). I use the [email protected] without HyperThreading and the .cfg has highmemfix=1, wideview=true, affinitymask=14 and LOD 6.5. I also use 8xS + 2xSGSS AA through inspector. Settings I believe a lot of us use everyday. I also test separately with Poolsize + Reject Threshold as one alternative…

Hi Folks, At last I am able to treat myself to a CPU upgrade. I have read about options till my eyes are spinning but I can find no definitive guide as to what I should get. I am limited a bit by budget - no more than a 3770k. But is that the best buy? I only play FSX. I have: Z77A - G43 Mobo 4 x 4 GB DDR3 1600 RAM 750w PSU GTX 560 ti Video Card (coming already) So, is it: i7 3770K or i7 2700K or i7 2600K or i5 3570K or i5 2550K or i5 2500K ?? or any one I have missed! All of these have been recommended at some recent point on some 'knowledgeable' site. See why my eyes spin and my head hurts?! Thanks, Ian

Don't get too excited, it's definitely overkill for your CPU's. Looks like Google may be about to launch a huge floating data centre. Cooled by sea water... http://news.cnet.com...nter-in-sf-bay/

I actually think somebody mentioned the company Jetline Systems in a thread but I can't seem to find it. Anyway does anybody have a computer from them or have opinions on the company? I mean a computer built specifically with FSX in mind seems like a pretty great idea as after trying to tweak the computer that I just got I realized it was way over my head and I think I actually ended up making things worse and worse. Anybody who has a computer from them know if they will add ad-ons for you and do they do all the tweaking in the FSX config before they ship it or will that still be up to me? Also those with computers from them how do the PMDG and add-on scenery…

I have finished overclocking tests on my new Haswell 4700k setup and I wanted to get some opinions on the test results and overclock configuration. I have settled with this following multipler/voltages setup, which is fully stable using all 3 tests from the NickN Haswell Overclocking guide which tests for: 1. Temp and load (AIDA64 1 hour) 2. Stability (OCCT large 64bit 1 hour) 3. Cache stability (OCCT large 64bit 1 hour) Core/Cache CPU Core Voltage Override CPU Cache Voltage Override CPU System Agent Voltage Override VCCSA Analog I/O Digital I/O Test Max Temp 4.4/4.4 1.300 1.300 0.290 …

Hi fellow pilots, Not been here for a while and I want to get flying again. In my case I need a new computer. Because you know more about, I have some questions. My situation : FSX with as many good sceneries and PMDG B737 or better. HD quality. Here are 2 screens. 24 inch plus 19 inch. Window 7 or 8 It is said that Windows 7 would be better for using FSX than the 8 version. Why? RAM Memory as much as possible. Think of 32Mb. Really necessary, useful? Hard Drive Combination of 256Gb SSD and 1Tb Sata. This would make the computer boot much faster. Graphics 4Gb Nvidia GeForce GTX 690. It is claimed that the card is too heavy. Errors and faults. This i…

It seems the conventional wisdom has moved towards using the internal frame limiter typically set at 30 while using Inspector's 1/2 refresh vsync setting for maximum smoothness and freedom from blurriness, the frame rate impact of which can be mitigated by setting the FFTF value somewhere lower than default .33. If there is one adage that most will agree on, it's one size does not necessary fit all, aka YMMV, with regard to specific setup recommendations. Thanks to martin-w's reporting that he has had good success using a different approach, I would have to concur fully the conventional wisdom appears empirically flawed, at least for some users myself included. I…

As a 40th birthday gift to myself, I'm looking to finally upgrade my 3 1/2 year first gen I7 system to something a little more current. Yes, you can never have enough FPS, but I have no real complaints about my current rig. But I want to strike now while I can help defray the upgrade costs by selling the parts on eBay while they still hold some value and life in them. I only pay attention to the hardware spec scene when I'm shopping for parts, and after a 3 1/2 year break I'm pretty rusty, although I have paid some attention to the trends on AVSIM now and then. Here's what I know: Sandy Bridge is supposed to be a better value/overclocker than Ivy Bridge. K - spec …

I just did a PCMark8 benchmark of my desktop computer. I recently built it and got some nice results and thought I would share them here. Gives one an idea what a system like mine will do, not with FSX, but in the general browsing and gaming worlds. I was actually expecting results closer to 60% of all worldwide benchmarks and the 97% was a pleasant surprise. Best regards, Jim

I have a pretty nice system 2600k 4.8ghz and a GTX680. I get really high frames but for some reason, FSX just does't seem smooth. I have used the "tweaking tool' that everyone uses on they're CFGs and get very good frames but my eye sees some stutters. I was thinking maybe my memory but I feel like I have good memory at DDR3 1600Mhz using 9-9-9-24. I feel if I was using a computer monitor instead of an HDTV maybe the intangible "smoothness" would be better. The only time I see true smothness is when I'm at Midway Island and I get 200-ish FPS. Yeah, I know that's a lot of FPS!

I was thinking about purchasing a new external hard drive for my Gateway FX6860 desktop. But I need som help on which external hard drive are compatible with my computer. If anyone can suggest a good external HD with about 1-1.5(1.5 would be optimal) TB space. I am on a budget so around $80 is fine. If anyone can find a 2 TB external HD for around $80 that is still compatible with the Gateway FX6860, that would definetly be a good choice for me.

I just did a clean nVidia driver install on my 64bit Windows 8 machine with Dual 680s in SLI mode and have to say this is the best driver I'v seen in many a day. While FSX IQ and FPS are much the same as the 321.xx my first impression of 331.58 was how smooth it is. Prior to this driver panning in outside view was always choppy but now things are smooth as glass. What really impressed me was that I was in moderately heavy clouds. Cockpit panning is much the same but at the same time seemed smoother using EZDOK. The other thing that I noticed was that this driver seems to handle Windows 8 task switching much better. IOW a task switch no longer results in an im…

I abandoned FSX a couple years ago for FS9 so I could get into more airliner flying and handle denser areas more easily. I am fairly happy with FS9 but I've been getting some annoying errors lately and am tired of missing out on all the cool new stuff coming out for FSX/P3D. My hard drive is getting really cluttered and I think I am going to do a fresh re-install of Windows tomorrow, and try FSX again. When I was an FSXer I flew almost exclusively GA/bush in ORBX regions, and I know I will get good FPS out there. However I would really like to eventually try the NGX, 777, Milviz 732, and all the other cool stuff coming out that I've been missing out on, but am unsure…

Hey guys, My G940 went down the drain when my throttle started to fail horribly, I got a refund and now I'm at the crossroads.. again.. How is the yoke? Is it as big as the pictures on the internet make it look like or is it smaller? I'm asking because I'd need to move it out of the way when not flying. Same for the throttle. Oh and about the throttle, the knobs are removable on the one that comes with the yoke right? Can you assign flaps and spoilers to the throttles axes? How does the yoke feel? Is it reliable (as in durable)? I'm pretty scared of the joystick market after my G940 failed.. I'm on the edge of buying either the X52 Pro or the Saitek Yoke.. just …

Hey All, I have been experimenting with two different systems. My sig rig and my Satellite. I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers for my Satellite's GPU and I feel that FSX is steady and using bufferpools = 0 sends almost 40% load off the cpu to the gpu., the gpu memory load goes upto 700-800 mb and these on default settings in Nvidia, But I doubt it does it on my sig rig, I only see a load off 300-400 mb. BTW I am using CCC 13.9, any recommendations for which CCC version would be good ?

Was going to get a Haswell upgrade bujt my OS drive is a OCZ Vertex 2 Sandforce and I read below that there are known issues with this with respect with the MOBO not seeing the drive...OCZ says they have no plans to address this. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2918589&postcount=2 Anyone have any first hand experience wit this? I cant afford to upgrade the SSD and dont wanna give it as the OS drive so I guess I am forced into an IvyBridge upgrade...?

Hi, I have been a lurker and an active poster around here for quite some time. 2 years ago, I dove into this small community and was given help by a few members to build the computer that I am still currently using today. With the advent of new Intel Processors and Nvidia GPUs, I was considering doing a new build at the end of this year. I am looking for 20-30% performance gains. I plan on upgrading my CPU, mobo, RAM and GPU to the following 4770K 2600MHZ RAM Asus Mobo of some sort GTX780/770 What are your thoughts? Any ideas? Should I wait?

Dear all, I need your help or advice about new CPU for my PC. Now I have AMD Phenom II 965 BE overclocked from 3.4 GHz to stable 3.8 Ghz. I cannot get more. I mostly fly in Europe and I would like to have better performance in some cities (it's not so bad, but few more FPS would be nice). I'm wondering if it helps me (is it worth?) to change it for AMD FX-4350 with 4.2 GHz without OC (4.5 GHz possibly with OC)? I know Intel is better, but right now I don't want to change the whole PC because I have another expenses (building a house). I will build new PC next year and it will be Intel, dedicated only for FSX. This PC I have now will remain as second gaming PC and …

Hello everyone. My PC will become 5 years old on November 15th, so it's time for an upgrade. When I bought it back in 2008, I believed it'd run FSX maxed out with decent fps... Couldn't be more wrong  These are my current components: Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz (not overclocked) Motherboard: Intel DG31PR Video Card: 512MB MSI Radeon HD 4870 GDDR5 RAM Memory: -Unknown- 4GB DDR2 RAMs (2x2GB sticks) Hard Disk: Some 500GB Samsung @ 7.200rpm After reading opinions and reviews in several places, and watching videos, I've pre-chosen the parts I want for my new computer, which are: Processor: Intel i7 4770k @ 3.5GHz (planning to o…
