  2. Hi there I have a new laptop coming with a 128gb SSD drive, and a traditional 750gb drive Windows takes up about 17gb and FSX is about 14. Will I have enough space to install REX, ftx global, and the PMDG 737? Kind regards,

I've just replaced my 256Gb SSD with a 512Gb SSD after making a clone/backup of the disc with Acronis. So I now have a virgin SSD where my original smaller drive was located. I have gone into computer management and initialized the drive, given it a drive letter and it is showing as active. However, it now throws up a screen when I try to use it saying I have to format the drive??? This I am confused about as I thought SSDs shouldn't be formatted. Can anyone offer some advice before I run the risk of a major cock up! Thanks fellas... BTW: This drive only has FSX, so no OS... Also, I have Googled this query but am confused, as there are so many posts saying to format …

Hello all. I have a simple question. I am starting to change over from HDD to SSD, but cannot afford to do in one swap, so am doing one at a time as money becomes available. So for my first drive, what would be the best way to go, performance wise: O/S on SSD & FSX on HDD or FSX on SSD & O/S on HDD, or doesn't it matter? Thanks,

After several years away from the flight simulator scene I have decided to build my own mid-tower computer for runing flight simulator x. I need to add that I have a very limited knowladge about computers let alone what to buy to build on for playing flight sim. I feel very confident in my abality to put the computer together and install the varius operating systems but dont have any ideas on what componets to buy. Any help or derection I could get would be greatly appriciated. My goal for this build is to be able to run and get the most I can get out of flight sim x as I can.

  10. Gentlemen, Having just installed the latest GenX VFR Photo Scenery I have decided that the time has come to try my hand at overclocking - problem is, I have no idea where to start! My motherboard is an Asus P6X58D-E, the cpu is an Intel i7-960 @ 3200 with an X58 chipset. I am running Win 7/64. Can someone please give me (or point me at) an "Idiot's / hand holding / step by step guide" to overclocking this thing? Should point out, I have a stock Intel air cooler, so I'm not looking to fry the cpu!! ^_^ Thanks, Bernie

  14. Hi all! Of course everyone knows the reason FSX is such a difficult program to run, and what separates it from the rest of the games around today, is the way it is written as a program. Of course, FSX was written when graphics cards where nowhere near as powerful and CPUs had only 2 cores in mainstream computers. But, as we all know, things have moved on, and we have processors like AMD's FX-8350 and new 9000 series offerring faster speeds and better multitasking performance. My question is; In a new system (which I'm planning on building in the spring), should one go for AMD or intel? I have heard lots of rumours surrounding the "strength" of AMD cor…

Hello friends I hope everyone here is good. I read in so many websites there is something called rendering preview or ram & speed up ram preview. Guys is this really could improve my performance in fsx, especially my ram is 8GB corsair platinum 2133 ( its the last generation from corsair ). My specs is : i7 2600K at 5.2 GHz, ASUS GTX680 DCUII TOP. I get from 20 to 25 frames in heavy scenery. Yesterday i see reviews about rendering preview and really need to know is this can improve my fsx performance. Note: ( i use the completely Word Not Allowed Guide and every thing is okay ). Just what about ram rendering preview ?

Hey Guys, I currently am running an intel i3 with 16gig of ram, I also have a gtx 560ti, I am thinking of upgrading to another computer and using this one as a second networked computer for maps etc, maybe even some instruments, don't know for sure yet but I am gonna keep it and use it for something. I have been looking around and have found some real good deals on some systems with the fx line of AMD processors. However I do recall hearing once apon a time that AMD and X-Plane didn't get along so well. Is this still the case? Anybody got any experience in this area? as always your input is greatly appreciated, Scot

  18. Hello everyone, I'm planning to build my own computer to run FSX this winter. I know it's still a bit of a ways off, but I'm trying to plan ahead and make sure I have a solid understanding of what works best when building a computer specifically for FSX. I've read a lot of different suggestions regarding the hard drive set up. Some of the articles and threads I have read suggested having a SSD hard drive, because it helps with load times. Others have said to have one large HHD for FSX and its add-ons and then a main HDD (or SDD) for the OS and any other programs. So I was just curious - what hard drive setup do you currently use? Have you found that certain co…

hello everyone ^_^ im currently in the quest for a new graphics card i settled down on the gtx 760 . part of it is that i dont want to spend a heck lot of money on a 770 or a 780 . and also its fsx , a gpu wont make that much of a difference . so i would like your opinions on two of these 760's both of them are from msi and are the same model but one has 2gb of ram and the other has 4gb of ram . and both of them have a boost clock of 1150 MHZ so i would like your opinion on which one to get thanks . my pc specs are in my pc

  21. I'd like to see how my system stacks up against newest CPUs in this pretty severe test. It won't take long to set up if you have the basics installed. 1. Set every single variable in FSX to maximum: that's all traffic of every type, clouds out to 110M, ground & aircraft shadows on, every possible setting to the absolute maximum possible in the customized settings dialogue in FSX. Set UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0 in fsx.cfg 2. Install REX cumulous cloud set #24 at the 2048 density setting. 3. Change LOD in fsx.cfg to 6.5 after you've maxed out all settings in FSX, then closedFSX so that 6.5 does not revert to 4.5. 4. In nV Inspector: vsync …

  23. Chaps, a word of warning. Something I discovered today... No doubt you will be buying Asus boards, they are the best, but beware. Asus Ai Suite is a very good utility, in particular Fan Xpert 2, I use it to control my case fans. However, within Ai Suite there's a module called Network iControl. Get rid of it, it will hammer your internet download speeds. It dropped my download speeds from 75 Mbs to 16. To disable it, go to add/remove programs and double click Ai Suite. Click uninstall, and an Asus panel will pop up enabling you to uninstall just that module. Just disabling it in Ai Suite settings doesn't work, it must be uninstalled. This is for the latest …

  24. I bought the software and now...I'm afraid to install it! I'm so happy w/ how I have my new Win7/FSX install and I'd like to make a clone to a couple year old but barely used HDD and I'm a little paranoid! My Win 7 Pro OS & FSX are on a single 500Gb SSD and all's well. I just added a hardly used & freshly formatted and sector-checked 500Gb HDD w/ plans to clone the SSD > HDD. After this is accomplished I would plan on disconnecting the HDD but leave it in the case in the event of the SSD failing, at which point since Paragon would be now useable in the clone I would hopefully be able to clone back to a replacement SSD. I've heard that Win 7's Backup &am…

Hi All Need a bit of advice regarding overclocking. I've had my rig overclocked at 4.2 for a while and wanted to up it to 4.5, which I did in the BIOS. Core voltage at 1.20v Stress tested with no probs with temps in mid 70s. Thought that was all done when a few days later I happened to start Core Temp to double check the temps and noticed it reported the cpu running at 4.2. Opened CPU-Z and that reported the same. Double checked the BIOS and that was still set at 4.5! What speed is my rig running at?? Anyone any ideas? Many thanks for any help Regards Alan
