HI guys, This is my first post on the AVSIM forums. I am not really sure if this is the right place or should this post be in the FSX forums? I am planning to buy a laptop next week and I will be using it for my study (software engineering) and FSX My question is can I run FSX with reasonable tweaks on it ? I will not be using payware aircraft but would like to use custom AI and payware sceneries such as FlyTampa and Aerosoft. Custom AI would be AI models from TFS, AIA, FAIB etc... And I will be compiling flightplans with AI Flight Planner. And what is the equivalent percentage value of FS9 100% air traffic in FSX ? The laptop has the following specs:…

  6. Hello everyone, I am looking for a new computer, and unfortunately it absolutely must be a laptop. Furthermore, it has to be a portable one, so no 18 inch monster laptops. I was thinking of buying an Alienware 14 with an i7-4900mq processor (2.8 ghz with 3.8 ghz on turbo) and an NVIDIA 765m. I know there are other gaming laptops with much better GPUs for a lot less money, but being for FSX, I was looking for the best CPU. Do you think this will be able to run FSX with the PMDG 737 on reasonable settings? My current computer has an i7-720qm and an ATI 5730m, and it cannot do the above. I believe that this computer should be at least 80% faster due to the increase in …

I have decided that i need an upgrade and thought of upgrading the cpu to a 4770k and get a similar board from asus. However now after checking the price in my local market, iam a little confused and would need your help for the same. Firstly whats the performance difference between the 3770k and the 4770k ? Would i still be ok with the 4670k i5 variant over the 3770 k ? One thing is that if i go for the 3770k, i would not need a new board and might think about upgrading…

Hi guys, I currently have an E8600 3.10ghz with 3gb ram and 550ti. I've had it for about 5yrs now and am looking to either build a new computer or have one built for fs9. I know many are saying why fs9 and not fsx? Well, with all my addons it looks and runs great! However, when I add complex aircraft and use nvidia inspecter with high settings, I get loss of perfomance. Ultimately, I would like to run fs9 at 60fps no problems. I've been out of the loop with computer specs for some time, so I really don't know what kind of computer I should be looking for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Budget is around $800.00- $1000.00. Thanks in advaced.

Hello, Long time no post I guess . Recently I have taken up some real flying in the PA28 Warrior/Archer and my flight sim PC hasn't been bugging me too much so I have kind of tuned out of here . I decided to post here because i wasnt quite sure if it was a driver problem, it seems it could be a hardware problem. So anyway, the issue. USB on my computer seems to have cracked it for some reason. Anything that is plugged in on boot will work fine, until it is unplugged. You can even plug USB in and use it normally for about 30 minutes after boot maybe, but after that time anything that is taken out and put back in won't be recognized. I have tried resetting the …

Over at Toms Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-heat-sink-haswell,3554.html They tested with a 4770K at 4.5 GHz / 1.25V (a fairly typical clock speed and voltage). The best coolers managed about 65C over ambient at full load. This means with a room temperature of 25C, the CPU will run at about 90C. Some coolers that used to be considered high-end only a few years ago now fail to keep the CPU under 100C at this overclocked speed. This mirrors my experience with the Phanteks PH-TC14PE. At 4.3 GHz / 1.217V, it runs about 85C during stress tests, with a room temp around 25-27C. So how are people claiming 4.6, 4.8 and even 5 GHz overclocks …

  16. Hello. I had to format my hard-drive, and now whenever I try to fly the following message appears: "FSX Has stopped Working". This doesn't happen with default aircraft and I don't know what else to do. I tried: * Removing everything (from pmdg to fsx) including registry traces * Re-Installing everything * Running as administrator And nothing works. The steps I did were: * Install FSX, then right after install SP1. * Fly a bit * Install SP2 * Install PMDG 737 * Then fly again. But right after everything loads and the cockpit view comes, the game crashes. Could somebody help? Regards, Amanda.

Hello all, I'm in the process of saving and planning to build a computer to run FSX. I currently run it on a laptop (which has been a bit rough), but I am hoping to build a new machine to run FSX on sometime this winter. I have been reading up online about what works and what does not work for an FSX computer. From what I understand, in order to get the most out of FSX it is necessary (or at least very recommended) to overclock your CPU. I have experience building computers, but this would be my first time overclocking a CPU. So my question right now is, would it be necessary to watercool this system if I am overclocking the CPU? I also have never watercooled a system…

  21. I have heard contradictory answers to that question. When taking the service at FSGS I was told to always put the the OS on the fastest drive. NickN has told me the opposite is true. The argument for that has been that it's that important how fast the OS load compared to how FSX loads things. But I wonder if the OS really loads once and then does not access the drive anymore ? For example there was a utility for Win XP that monitored file activity. And while just displaying the desktop there was an tremendous amount of file activity. And does not the OS access the virtual memory in the page file during the time an application is run ? Or maybe it's not needed with 8 GB RA…

  22. I run an Intel I7 2600K @ 4.2 (42x100 no voltage bump) on an ASUS P8P67 REV 3.1 board with Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3-1600 C9 RAM (2x4GB) and an ATI 7970 3GB Ghz edition. I ran out and grabbed me the most expensive RAM I could get to test overclocking further (Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR-2133 CL9 2x4GB) and proceeded to overclock per many of the guides out there. Now while at 4.5 CPU and 1833 on the RAM (board wont do 2133 for some reason) I seem to be able to run FSX (although I am disappointed in my FSXMARK11 average of 38 with that clock), I am not convinced I have a stable overclock. What do all you 4.6 and above clocked 2600K users using to confirm stability? One…
