Currently I have an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.8, along with an asus p8p67 le motherboard, 8 gb of ram & a gtx670. Considering jumping onto Haswell with an i7 4770k and an asus sabertooth motherboard to go with it. Would I see much difference/ be worth it? Thanks in advance. Ryan Taylor

  3. I've been running FSX off a 500G Barracuda 7200rpm. I have Win7 on a dedicated 60G SSD. Last night, I purchased a 250G SSD for FSX only (will probably install FS9 also). I wanted to wait until the prices drop some more but I was fed up with FSX loading times and having to defrag after each add on, so I decided to buy one. Load times is much better than I expected. After clicking the FSX shortcut icon, it's up and running in 4 seconds! Loading a flight is so much faster too. And not having to defrag ever again is a big plus and will save me a lot of time while I re-install all my add ons. But I also got a very unexpected surprise. I got what seems like a …

Hey all, I have a quick question. I'm going to upgrade my system and a friend of mine came with a suggestion. I could keep my current i7 920 and OC it to 3.5-4 GHz, or buy the i5 4670k and OC it. The GPU will be a Nvidia GTX 770. Which one would be better for FSX (and the upcoming PMDG 777 with high detail airport sceneries) Please tell me what you would do, and why. Thanks! Greetings.

Word Not Allowed have made this very good article. I finally understood the VAS problem. http://#####.wordpress.com/fsx-oom-and-addon-vas-usage/ It would be so nice if the were a big cooperation in the community by developers and Microsoft to break the 4 GB VAS seal. :p0310: Now FTX Global is the  fantastic lift for FSX. With to Individual textures... what a creativity we are going to see. But the OOM :t0103: London VFR, UK2000 Heathrow and a big plane that is :p0128: for me impossible. I will try minimise everything but it sure would be nice if the seal could be broken. Jens Michlas CPH Denmark

I live overseas, in Hong Kong. Are there any recommended PC parts suppliers that ship internationally? Comments/ input/suggestions on component choices most welcome. I will be using the PC for Flight Simulator X, running on max settings (1920x1080) with add-ons. I plan on overclocking the CPU to 4.2Ghz+, is the case and cooler good enough? Finally, should I change the thermal paste on the CPU to Coollaboratory? Is there anyplace th…

Hey guys, need a little bit of help here as I have been out of the game for quite sometime now with computers. My current build is currently 5 years old and is running a E8500 Intel Core Duo with 4GB of Ram and a Nvidia 9800 GTX+. The reason I want to upgrade is that newer games can't keep up on this PC and also because I like to flightsim every now and then. I'm looking at a 1500$ budget for my new computer and something that will last me for the next 4 to 5 years as this one did. I have an old creative audigity sound card as well because I have a nice set of Logitech 5.1 speakers so would you suggest I get a new sound card or is onboard sound improved? Also do you …

I just OC'd my box recently and Saturday I was testing it out. I know I did a no no and used stock cooler, but I had another 120 mm fan sitting on top to help push more air. It was only doing 83C with FSX running. The room temperature was 78 to 79F. I put a box fan (24") in front of it to help. Yesterday, I started getting BSOD with page fault in non paged area along with something like 0xc 000050 after doing this tweak http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/58637-improving-fsx-via-windows. It occurs during load of FSX where it gets to about 50% or 270 meg RAM in use. I ran the msched and it came back with no errors. I'm thinking tonight I will try more opti…

Can someone explain the difference between the cpu speeds. For example, the Core i7 4770k vs FX 9370. Intel 4 cores @ 3.5ghz and AMD 8 cores @ 4.4ghz. Looking at a comparison I found on google, I saw the i7 clock speed faster than AMD. How can that be with AMD @ 4.4ghz? Is it marketing or the way the processor's made? Little confusing, since I've never bought AMD before. Also, does flightsim utilize each core (1 or 2 depending on fs9/fsx) at that clock speed? Thanks.

I am currently playing FSX on a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro, its a Quad Core i7 2635QM running at 2.2Ghz. Unfortunately it only has an integrated GPU namely the ATI 6750m 512MB. FSX runs reasonably well especially with the default aircraft, having the sliders on medium can give me a solid 30fps. However introducing a payware aircraft (Airbus X Extended), and REX will slow it down to an unplayable slideshow (which is to be expected). I have an old PC that I am thinking about upgrading, new CPU, MB, RAM & PSU. I have a Geforce GTX 460 1GB Graphics card that I am hoping to re-use and I'm thinking about coupling it together with an i5 3570K, New MB and 8GB RAM. Uti…

I built my own computer and upgraded the majority of the parts about 6 months ago. I am using an Intel i5 3570k CPU with Zalman CNPS11X Extreme CPU cooler. I don't know a lot about overclocking but is it recommended for FSX? I am running the majority of North America scenery addons, NGX, etc. I get great FPS now but figured overclocking might up things a bit. Any advice and recommended guides? Thanks for the help.

Hi, My gaming rig is now going to need to share my business computer as the biz computer went south. I know I can install another hard drive and do a dual boot but that requires another win 7 license but maybe this will end up that way. I just don't have the money right now for a new biz computer, at least the one I need to have. It is not that I do not have the room for all of the biz applications that I use, it is the services and stuff that runs on boot that I do not need to deal with when I load up the flight sim. So is there some product that can allow me to auto run the services required for the boot that I need.? This approach is somewhat of a dual boot but re…

  23. Hello, im looking into upgrading my hardware, and while id like to think I know a lot about computers the choice of processors never fails to baffle me. Right now I have 2 processors in mind. - AMD FX-4350 4.20 GHz Quad-Core AM3+ CPU 4MB L3 Cache & Turbo Core Technology - Intel® Core™ i7-3820 Quad Core 3.60 GHz 10MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2011 The AMD looks better with the with the 4.2 GHz, but I know that a higher clock speed doesn't always mean better performance. The AMD is cheaper, but I don't want to sacrifice performance for it if the intel would be better. So which processor would be best for running Fsx? Other specs: 16 GB of Ram Nvidia 660 …

I've just been reading a thread about a safe vcore for that cpu is 1.45v currently mine is set at 1.152v so I have plenty of room to go up , but I was wondering if I increase the vcore do I have to change the +12v +5v and +3.3v settings as well currently I have these set at 12.096v 5.0v and 3.328v I have no real idea what these do so advice would be a great help Ideally I would like to increase my oc to 4.9 but not sure on changing the voltages any help would be great Thanks
