Good evening - I have been lurking for a long time doing research on various flight sim builds. I wanted to build a strong gaming rig that would be able to last without upgrades for several years. What do you think everyone? Alienware has the new Aurora with the i7 Ivy Bridge 4960X, 12 mb cache, 6 cores OC to 4.1 and the GeForce 780 with 3 GB GDDR5. Should I jump for it or wait for the Haswell next year? Lee

I have to admit that my priorities suck- I get 30 minutes a night to sim, what with long work hours, mentoring some young student pilots, and my love of hiking in the mountains. But I'm addicted to simming as much as anyone, ut don't have the time to play with hardware much. I do build my own PC's, maybe once every several years when miraculously time is available. I'm currently running an ASUS P8P67, with an i7-2600 CPU. I even installed water cooling, but never really did much with over-clocking. Now I'm running DX10 and things look more jerky, so I got to think about maybe doing that overclock. So, I''ve been researching the topic this weekend on the web. …

Hello people. Just wondering what what results people are getting from FSX with the above spec processor. Considering getting a haswell built machine built to order overclocked to 4.2ghz with 16GB ram and will have a nvidia 560 2gb GC. Im pretty clued up to pc's but wondering if I will see a major improvememnt going from an i7 8xx 3.2ghz.

Hello, So I have an IBuyPowerPC desktop, i-series 301, and I had opened up the side panels to show the inside of the computer to pickup a fake driver filler that fell, NO CABLES WERE TOUCHED, and when I picked up the plastic filler, closed the sides, and it won't turn on! I don't know if there is a loose cord I didn't see, of a sensor I triggered. But it won't turn on. So if any of you guys know anything about IBuys, I need hell badly. -Thanks.

The most difficult task in assembling parts for a my new Z87 rig is to find the right memory set ... I see an interesting set of memory (G.Skill Trident X Series 16 Go (2 x 8 Go) DDR3 2133 MHz CL9) online but with timings validated for the Z77 Express . It is not listed in the ASUS Qualified Vendor List. Does it spell trouble ?

After using my current laptop for running FSX for 4 years, I've decided its time to upgrade. My main concern is the OS, and mobo. To go with Win 7 or Win 8? I think Win 7 is better but what is the community consensus? Also I was trying to keep cost down by getting a cheaper mobo, is that a good idea? Parts: i5 4670K CPU GTX 560Ti (getting this 2nd hand off a mate who just upgraded his GPU) AsRock B85M-ITX Mobo 8gb Kingston 1600mhz DDR3 RAM WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200rpm HDD CoolerMaster 720W modular PSU LG 24' monitor Any suggestions/improvements/ideas for this build?

I am using Nvidia Inspector, and when I max out AA I notice that some objects and specific parts on some planes are still jagged. Is there a way to customize AA renders objects other than Inspector? Or is this just something I will have to deal with? Thanks in advance.

I've done it. I've purchased a Seagate hybrid 3.5" desktop SSHD 1Tb drive for FS9 ... yes FS2004! Well I've acquired over 700gig of stuff over the ten years! Loading time of the sim is in excess of 8 minutes ... too long. Once it opens everything is fine. Modern hardware easily copes with this 2003 program. I wanted to speed up loading AND have CAPACITY at a REASONABLE price ... $A119 plus shipping. Cheapest 750 gig SSD here in Australia is $600 (Samsung Evo) No brainer. I'll let you know my experience ... it's not a sexy solution but somehow t think I'm not Robinson Crusoe.

Hi I have a tight budget of $280 to buy both a CPU and motherboard. I was looking at the Intel i5 4750 and an ASRock mobo for $72 My question is will this be able to run fsx well with the PMDG 737 and 777 with default airports and FTX global and REX with medium-high settings? Any other suggestions for CPU and mobo? Thanks

Hey, So I finally got my new computer (ill post about that soon) and I am ready to install FSX but have a quick question: I have 2 HDD's on my computer, a 500GB HD and a 2TB HD. currently I have Windows 7 Ultimate and all my other non simulation software on the 500GB HD. I dont have anything on the 2TB one except some documents and stuff. So, should I install FSX and all the addons I have (over 15 aircraft addons, a lot of scenery) and I have alot of other software on my wishlist for FSX on the 2TB HD by itself, or the 500GB HD with all the other software. ~Remy

Hi, I hope you can help me out with this question, i´m not so familiar with this kind of stuff. I have bought a new PC with two SSD Drives. On one drive (small one) I have installed FSX with all Add On´s (PMDG)I have. And now…. Just 6,8 GB left…. The second drive is much lager, now… do I have to delete the FSX on the one drive and install FSX again on the second drive or, can I just “drag an trop” the hole FSX Folder on the second drive? Is this possible? Or a bad idea? Thanks a lot Steffen Lutz

Hey everyone! Well its done. The pc is complete and is amazing! So here goes... I installed fsx as per nicks guide. Everything went in great. I started fsx and tried the trial flight out of KSEA. To much of my amazement I was hitting nearly 100fps. So that was great and with no tweaks and no overclocking! The only add on right now is UTX. ok so I thought to myself, can this get even better. So I applied the fsx.cfg tweaks.... bufferpools, highmenx, and the wide screen. Next I setup nvidia inspector as directed. Well guess what? Loaded the test flight out of KSEA and dropped a good 25% in frame rate! Why? Then that brings me to this. Directx preview. I clicked it. Restarte…

I am in the process of building a new Haswell 4770K system on a Gigabyte GX87X-OC board using a Corsair H110 Water cooling kit and it's all going in a Corsair Vengeance case which has the mounting points for the H110 radiator in the top grill. In the past I have always gone with the idea that case fans at the front and side of the case are intake fans and those at the top and back are exhaust. However in the H110 water cooler instructions it says it works better if the radiator fans are intake. If I did as they say to balance the intake/exhaust fans I would have to change the side panel fans to exhaust which seems all wrong for the airflow. This is my first venture in w…

When I first assembled the box a few months back I started w/ the UEFI's BIOS's built in overclocking option called Extreme. Knowing that it can send too much voltage to the CPU and memory controller, I edited these inputs to manual control and have otherwise exactly followed JJ from ASUS's guide on overclocking SB-E. I have a stable 4.4Ghz on 1.305v to the CPU, with as I say other parameters compatible w/ JJ's advise. No problems whatsoever so far. But, the automated routine ended up making the BCLK at this value, and as a result my memory is overclocked almost to the full 2400MHz it's rated at. Mind you, SB-E is only supposed to support 1600Mhz. Some comments I…
