Since I really don't have time, money, or energy I was going to simply buy a new computer and not bother with building my own. 2. I was going to finish next week my PC for FSX, but new stuff show up on the market :( 1. I allready bought in good price gigabyte gtx 670 GV-N670OC-2GD and I can easy and very stable OC it from 980 to 1083mhz. 2. I ordered 3770K with asus z77 sabertooth motherboard but because of rare incompatibility between each of the items they still are at the shoop and im waiting for new 3770K Because new haswell, and gtx770 show up on the market I talk to my friend in shoop and he let me choose what i want to do. 1. I can switch from gigabyte 670 to gigabyte 770 and It will cost me extra about 100-120$ 2. I can cancel without a problem my order 3770K + Z77 motherboard…

  3. I'm going to order a dedicated FSX PC, my budget is $3,000.00 USD. I'm also going with either a 27 inch or 32 inch LCD monitor... I want this machine to be able to run FSX with lots of AI, quality scenery, add on WX and a quality panel such as PMDG 737 or their upcoming T7. I have ruled out building one, due to a laundry list of issues too numerous to list or debate. So no need to discuss that. Its not that I don't see the virtues of building, its that I have decided against it. So with that... Who to order from? Processor, MoBo, RAM, Video Card, etc... what setup would you go with and why? When is that new Hazwell processor coming out and wil…

  4. Hi All I'm an absolute rookie when it comes to overclocking and all of that technical stuff, but I think I finally have a stable reliable overclock. The trouble is, I'm still not getting the performance I expect, and was wondering if you kind fellows would help me out. I've read all of the hardware guides etc, I just don't know what to try next and everything you read seems to be challenged by something else you read etc, so I thought a bit of guidance from you experts would be the way forwards! OK, so I have an i5 3570 which I've OC'd to 4.3Ghz, 8GB of RAM and a EVGA GTX670 FTW Signature II graphics card. I spent many weeks choosing the parts for my build (this …

Hello forum, and good morning! Haswell is out, at last, so the time is right to consider a cpu upgrade for FSX. I am still relying on my E8400 @ 4.00 Ghz, and I am currently looking at the following three cpu: I7-4700k I7-3770K I7-2700K I am after a good cpu to overclock, will add liquid cooling to my rig. The only game I run is FSX. What is your suggestion? From the few reviews I read so far, it seems the Haswell model is not so great for overclocking, or at least nont as great as everyone anticipated. Well, I am open to any input and suggestion, let's point out I am looking for the most appropriate cpu to run FSX. Looking forward to your inputs, …

  6. I found on internet the possibility to compare the new haswell I5 4670K with any CPU. I selected the Ivo Bridge I5 3570K see this link http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/579/Intel_Core_i5_i5-3570K_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-4670K.html Some things I think is weird here, For the old Ivo Bridge only it's stated as an advantage that 'this microprocessor has unlocked clock multiplier. The CPU can be freely overclocked on most motherboards if greater performance is required.' What have I missed ? Isn't this also the case for the I5 4670K ? Also for the haswell it's stated as an drawback that it's less energy efficient. Wasn't that one thing that was supposed to be improved…

  7. Just looking for a quick opinion on what you would do. I need to build a second PC. Either setup would be running 2400Mhz RAM and a GTX 680, and be cooled by a H110 in a carbide 500R. I can get a used 3770K and Sabertooth Z77 for total $470AUD. But this deal may no longer be available after today. Alternatively I can get a 4770K for $389 + Sabertooth Z87/Gigabyte UD5H for $319 or Asrock Extreme 6 Z87 for $237 = Total $626-708AUD. I have 3 SSD's that will be hooked up so I like Sata 6GB's connections. Which way would you go?

Hello everyone. I'm trying to build a new rig for FSX and I could use your help. Didn't wanna open a new topic, so I'll "storm" you with my questions here First of all, this is the max you can get from an FX 8350? Or is it due to GPU? I know that according to benchmarks Ivys/SBs outperform AMD's FX series, but still there aren't many AMD system owners that share their experience. Is Intel the only way? Thanks

  10. That's haswell reviews out. On regular cooling it seems to manage around 4.5GHz. So similar to IvyBridge. Anandtech managed 4.7GHz on their engineering sample of i7 4770K. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7003/the-haswell-review-intel-core-i74770k-i54560k-tested/3 Sweclockers mannaged only 4.4GHz on their retail sample i7 4770K and 4.6GHz on their engineering sample of i5 4670K http://www.sweclockers.com/recension/17016-intel-core-i7-4770k-och-i5-4670k-haswell/26#pagehead

  12. Haswell's release leaves me thinking SB-E is still a great choice for my upcoming build--I'm interested in 6 cores despite its limited added value for FSX (better texture loading?). What is the practical difference, besides added cache, in the X versus K variants? Do X processors overclock better because of favored sorting/binning perhaps? It's as you know double the cost of the K version. While you're here: is H100 still a good choice for cooling for this CPU? Mainboard: ASUS X79 Sabertooth ok? RAM: any value for 2400Mhz ram in an SB-E system? Many thanks in advance ;o)

  13. I'm looking to buy a dedicated system for FSX et al... Most likely buying from someone like Cyber Power PC or similar place. The system I want including monitor is well north of $3,000.00 So my question is, how reliable is it to have them shipped via UPS/FEDEX? Reason I ask, the last time I bought a system via online several years ago, had it shipped. It showed up with internal damage the manufacture said was due to shipping. They replaced it, but the replacement unit showed up damaged too. They ended up giving me a full refund but the back and forth of them building my system, then shipping to me, me determining it was broken. Contacting them and au…

When I searched 'haswell release date' I found June 3 mentioned. That's next week. But I see no mention of it in PC retail shops. Also from what I understand a new socket is to be used meaning new motherboards. I see no such mobos being mentioned . In addition to that I wonder if new CPU cooler needs to be designed ? So how early can we buy a haswell based computer ?

  17. I'm getting that sinking feeling that Haswell DT will ultimately be less inspiring than i7-3930K or 3970X. I'm still interested in in a 6-core processor and am thinking I IB-E sounds like an overclocking nightmare, which means if Haswell turns out to perform well for overclock then it's a year and a half before we will see Haswell E and that's more than I want to wait. One thing that has me wondering is how not having PCIe 3 will affect the top end nVidia video cards. If it was <10% impact I'd feel pretty good about SB-E and a top end nV card. If PCIe 2.x would constrain something like Titan I'd have to go for a PCIe 3 compatible processor. Anyone have anything…

After reading the official software and hardware guide for FSX I found that they recommend an I7 (high range) over an I5 which should only be midrange. I wonder why ? After comparing for example INTEL CORE I5 3570K with a INTEL CORE I7 3770K I see only two differences. Stock frequency 100 MHz higher on I7 which also have slightly more L3 cache. Does this make such a difference as to state different range ? I think I have read here before that I7 over I5 is waste of money. Is that wrong ? The price difference is 45% higher for I7. Is that worth spending ?

I'm looking at building a new rig in preparation for the 777 and have chosen all of the components I require for the new build. However, I'm really struggling on which computer case to buy (if I even need to). I currently have a fantastic Casecom 6788, but after doing some research, for what I'm going to purchase, a slightly bigger case wouldn't be a bad thing. I don't really have any idea where to begin looking. I've done a bit of research, but nothing seems conclusive or completely out of my price range. I'm looking at spending roughly £50 - £70 on a case. Any good suggestions will be muchly appreciated Thanks.

Greetings all. So, at Xmas, I got into FSX havhing been a long time hobby developer in other 3D games and got hooked.. Badly hooked. About this time last year, I built a new PC for home use, but did NOT take into account some of the specifics for FSX as I hadn't started playing then. As a result, whilst the PC is great, it is not a great design for FSX, although it is a great design for general use, so the time has come to build my FSX pc. I have a number of givens and druthers that i need to accomplish.. As follows... 1). Not so worried about frame rates as long as it is smooth and the response is there (frames rates are important, smoothness more so)…

  23. I would like some help on deciding whether to get a 660 or 680 for my next rig. I was going to get a GTX 660 Ti FTW+ 3gb card for 340, but am considering going to a 680. However the 680s jump up in price to around 500-550, and am having a hard time justifying the extra price. Is the 680 really worth the extra 200, or should i just stick with the 660. For what its worth, this rig will only be for FSX. thanks adam

Hi, Now that I've got my CPU set up and good enough for FSX, I'm considering my next small computer upgrade. I was planning on going from 4GB to 8GB of RAM, but I just thought of something, wouldn't an SSD be a better upgrade? The weakest link in my machine is of course the video card, but I can't afford 250-300$ to get a new high performance one. My specs are on the right. Basically, I plan on only installing Windows + FSX on my SSD. How big do you think I need? I do play other games but I think I will keep them on my current HD. After a quick Newegg.ca search (I'm in Canada), would this be a good bet? 120GB, has a good rating: http://www.newegg.ca/Produc…

But i didn't test it yet. Just got it and will be home in about one hour to install it and see how it behaves with FSX. I'm not expecting any speedups really, i mainly got it because i also play games and it's been a long time since i had a high end video card in my system and so i decided to buy it to last the next two years. It's an EVGA Superclocked version and i'm a bit scared of its 3072MB. IIRC, these are mapped into the high memory available for the Windows system (if this still happens - I don't know), so it shouldn't cause any issues with the good old FSX. I will report if i find any issues or improvements with this card's massive 7.1 billion transistors …
