Hey guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice on a new build PC I'm after. I'm looking at the 'Infinity Level 10' from CyberPowerSystem and I was wondering what your thoughts were on how this would handle FSX and various simulations? 3. I'm looking for some help with two laptops I found on Best Buy's website and which one is preferable for a combined FS9/FSX rig. To back up, I'm looking for a laptop, since it's more portable (obviously), and it needs to be from Best Buy since I'm using Best Buy gift cards to fund most of the purchase (redeeming my Capital One miles for a worthy cause). I've read some through these forums over the last few months, and I have to admit, I'm still a little confused on what's good and what's not. I understand that SSDs are great for boot up time and FS only after it's been booted once before so it's in RAM. From what I've read, I'm not certain if the SSD will do anything fo…

  4. Hi I am a returning FSX simmer and I think I have got the hardware sorted. I have decided to go for a ASUS laptop N56vz which is core i7 with dedicated graphics nvidia gt650 at 2gb. I am aware of the advice of putting FSX and it's add ons on a dedicated drive which sounds like good advice. However the lappie only has a single drive. What I am thinking is using an external ssd connected via a USB 3.0 to carry and run FSX and it's add ons. Anyone any experience or advice please. Regards Pete

  6. I'm contemplating building a system that runs FSX reasonably well in exchange for running XPlane 10.10 very well, since the latter can exploit multicore/multiproc better than FSX can, or so their site says: X-Plane will take advantage of as many cores or distinct processors as you can afford. Having 16 cores split among 4 CPUs is not required by any means, but Version 10 would be able to use every one. No more than 4 GB of RAM is necessary, but the more VRAM you have, the better–X-Plane 10 can easily use 1.5 GB of VRAM at the maximum settings. Anyone out there w/ a Xeon that runs at higher turbo speeds like the one mentioned in the title can attest how it runs …

My GTX470 gave up the ghost and it has been replaced (just under warranty luckily) with a GTX660 2GB. Does anyone use this GPU and if so, can anyone recommend a driver for it which does NOT reset my nVidia Control Panel colour settings to default after every reboot? Windows 7 64-bit... Anyone installed the new 320.00 GTX driver? Result?? (one of the advertised fixes is for Lvl-D gauges, which didn't show properly). Thanks, Martin

  9. Hi, Although my computer is fairly recent (August 2012 build), it doesn't run FSX very well with addons. I know FSX is very hard on PCs even though it's 7 years old. If I were to upgrade parts, in what order should I do it? Basically, what is my limiting part for me right now? I can run many 2012 video games on almost max, they look very good, but when using FSX and PMDG aircraft.. I barely get an unstable 15-25 FPS. I've spent so many hours tweaking I beginning to wonder if this is normal for my hardware. Here are the specs: CPU: Intel i3 2120 @ 3.3 GHz Video: GTX 550 Ti 1Gb VRAM RAM: 4 GB HD: 500 GB (not solid state) All running at 1680 x 1050 resolut…

I did a defrag with Ultimatedefrag yesterday on my C and D drive. Megasceneryearth is on my C drive while FSX is on my D drive. I set my MSE files as high perf on my C drive and FSX as high perf on my D drive. I now have stutters that I have not had in who knows how long. What could have casued it. Anything I can do to recify the problem. On a good note. MY MSE blurries have gotten a lot better.

I have just purchased the new parts to build a new PC but have run into a few problems. I have been building PC's for more years then I can recall so I am not a newbie but I have never come across this problem before. The main bones of the system is; Gigabyte Z77X-D3H motherboard Intel I5 3750K processor 2 x 4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 C9 1.65V memory Zotac GTX670 4GB graphics card. XFX 850Pro power supply When I first installed the parts I got 8 short beep, 1 long beep, 2 shorts beep and no post display. I checked google with no joy so phoned Gigabyte. They said that the board could need the bios flashing so it could run an Ivybridge CPU so I sent it back…

  13. Hi I've recently done a major hardware upgrade to my rig, mobo, cpu, gpu, ram and an ssd. I'm going to reinstall windows 7 64bit and then fsx with the handful of add-ons I have. The big question I've got is just how important is it to have windows and fsx on separate drives? Is it a necessity, very important, important or would it simply just be the ideal thing to do? I currently have an ageing slow seagate 500gb hdd and a Samsung 840 256gb ssd. Due to having spent up upgrading my rig, another ssd is out of the question for a couple of months till funds have been replenished when hopefully I will be purchasing another 256 gb ssd or possibly a 512gb when …

Hi everyone, I have been overclocking my 3770k, and found that it is very stable at 4.5Ghz with fixed voltage of 1.24V. Prime 95 stressed my system for 2hr38min and the test completed with no issues. However, when I try to switch to OFFSET MODE in BIOS, problems begin. Core temp tells me the VID at full loaded is between 1.2610V and 1.2660V, so I OFFSET the voltage to -0.021. Now, the system sometimes refuses to boot. If it boots, I may get a BSOD with error code x000000101. No mini dump file is created. I will be truly grateful if anyone can give me some ideas. 16. Hi. My PC specs (PC used only for FS9/FSX) are in my forum signature. The i7-950 has a moderate overclock to 3.8GHz. Now I obvioulsy know that overclocking will increase core temperatures, but I am getting a little confused. I would appreciate some expert help... I have Vcore showing on my desktop and also have 'Core Temp' monitor installed. I am not 100% clear about the difference between CPU temp and the core temps (but I guess at least I know there is one!). When I am running FS9 (I rarely fly FSX these days), say flying into Aerosoft Heathrow, with heavy cloud (to put load on the system), Vcore shows around 65-70*C for CPU. Core Temp is set at TJMax=100*C (sho…

Hi, I have a PC which I use only for FS (specs below): I have just added a CPU temp gauge (via CoreTemp) to the desktop and am a bit alarmed at the information it is giving. The PC came with the i7-950 pre-overclocked to 3.8 GHz (and I wouldn't dream of losing this overclocking - FS runs as smooth as silk). I have never had any problems with sudden shutdowns in the two years I have had the PC... Temperatures at startup show around 50degsC. When running FS they are 70-85 degs: when I switch to Spot View, they can be up to 10 degs higher - i.e. to a max of 95degs on cores 1 & 2. Under the TJMax, but much too high I would have thought even so? The PC was ship…

I've been running 4.7 GHz on my i5 2500K for 1.5 years now or so. And yesterday, right in the middle of a race in iRacing I got a BSOD saying "Windows encountered an uncorrectable hardware error." And the stopcode was 0x000000000124. As far as I know those last three numbers are indicating that voltage is too low for the PC to maintain the overclock properly. Then I increased offset by 0.005 but today again in the middle of a race the exact same BSOD. My settings are offset voltage +0.040 which gives me 1.40V. DRAM is 1.5V, and CPU PLL is 1.725. LLC is Ultra High. Intel Speedstep has been enabled since I started this overclock but this shouldn't be causing any stability p…

OK, I am thinking very hard about an upgrade to my GTX580. Under normal circumstances it's not something I would consider, albeit FSX being very much CPU bound. However, I have heard from a few guys (including Ben Cap) who have said unequivically that there are some improvements to be had, mainly in AA and heavy cloud scenarios. The latter being what interests me the most, as I find even my 580 sometimes struggles with intensive addons and 8/8 cloud. However, I just wanted to ask those who have more knowledge in the hardware area, whether my current Asus P8Z68-V MB will be compatible. It shows as having PCI Express 2.0 slots but I am concerned about the memory and whethe…

  20. Hi folks, Just one question really; I intend putting together a new rig for FSX and XP10. Money is no object to the build and I have no real preferences to brands etc. That said, I have always used (and liked) ATI cards and gigabyte boards. I live in the UK. All suggestions on components / cooling and anything else are most welcome. Cheers

I bought a stock Asus I7 3770 3.4G over a similar Alianware comp thinking of expandability. Unfortunatly I made a very poor choice. I can't see any way to overclock this rig. Is there a program out there that could override the settings ? Or should I just start over and use this one as a secondary for widefx and such. Thanks for the help.

  22. I really hope someone can help because this is depressing me! I am one of those – not alone in these forums of course – who, if my Flightsim has problems, I fret and worry and lose sleep and feel generally miserable! You know how it is!! My PC (the CPU, that is), which I use solely for FS9/FSX was running very hot, up to 95oC under full load, so, having checked all the ‘usual suspects’ and it being under guarantee, I returned it for repair. They renewed the thermal paste and slightly reduced the voltage and now all is fine. However, the high temperatures had apparently damages the GPU (an nVidia GTX470), so they replaced it with a GTX660, the GTX470 not being availabl…
