So, about a month ago, I decided to upgrade my pcc cause I felt as though I was not getting as much as I could from FSX. Also with plenty of nice addons coming soon - PMDG 777 ect I thought why not! I now have FSX/Win 7 64 now moved to SSD I7-3770K Gygabyte Z77X-UD5H Mobo 16GB DDR 3 (overkill I know - but RAM is dirt cheap these days) I have followed the guides ect so still tweaking - If anyone has any ideas for me then go for it :-) so, today I decided to overclock the CPU - currently now on 4.7 and must say wow performance has increased. ORBX YMML is a huge frame killer on FSX, but now on the ground its sitting at 20, and when I move around goes to …

I've done a bit of research but I can't say I know a lot about overclocking but I was wondering how much I can get out of it without sacrificing the life of the CPU. I'm a little nervous even just touching the BIOS because I don't want to mess up my computer, but I was wondering what this rig can do and with a little help pull an overclock. I've never overclocked but so I wouldn't know what is right and what is wrong :S. My rig is the 3820 @ 3.6 , 16GB RAM, GTX 660. I run flight sim at stable 30FPS (15-25FPS in VC) using PMDG747 in ORBX PNW with modest scenery sliders. How much can I expect with an overclock? I don't have an after-market cooler and I'm really not …

For the past 7 years I have been using XP 64. I've been very happy with the outcome. During this time, I purchased 2 systems, one every 3 years or so. I buy the components from a local merchant, and he builds up the system for me. Both times, I used the same drives which I give to the merchant to install with all the NEW HARDWARE. Both times the NEW HARDWARE worked hand in hand with the OLD DRIVES loaded with XP 64. Of course, with the NEW GRAPHICS CARD and the NEW MOTHERBOARD, he had to install the drivers etc........... I am feeling lucky again. I want to buy a new system. Do you think that my luck will succeed again? Here's my 3-year old system: 3.33 gigahert…

Hi, I'm puzzled about this because at DigitalStorm they mention the i73930K is the unlocked one. Does a higher TDP for the i73960X equate to better overclockability over the 3930K? I ask because the Extreme version X is double the cost, and if they both are have unlocked multis why so big a price diff?

Hi, i am currently saving my hard earnings to build my first PC, something to tinker and clean at weekends when not working, anyway i have a budget, an absolute maximum of £600, below are the 2 configurations that i have come up with, bearing in mind that FSX isn't the only game im planing on playing: Extreme Budget PC Intel I3 3220 @ 3.3 GHz (£94.96) Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (£57.30) Corsair XMS3 2x2Gb 1600mhz (£26.88) XFX 550W PSU (£45.06) XFX 7870 2GB DD (£177.34) OR Nvidia GTX 650Ti (£180) OEM DVD ROM (£13) Seagate 500gb 7200 HDD (£42.47) Coolermaster K280 (£34.78) Windows 8 OEM (£69.70) TOTAL(with AMD GPU)= £561.39 Average Budget PC Intel I…

Just a quick question, I have an I7 930 running at 3.9 and a GTX 580 Graphics card. Running at a resolution 1900 x 1200 I can get good smooth flight with the NGX, and Rex with fairly high settings, I know I am pushing it but if I run at 2560 x 1600 on my Dell 30” detail looks so much better but I struggle with FPS when I get to an add on airport, (not surprisingly) which is causing the problem the CPU or Graphics? I will upgrade to Haswell if it looks like a good overclocker, I understand I am getting good results with my current setup, and realise I am trying to push it a bit too far but always striving to go a bit further. Many thanks Steve Merriman

Hey guys! I decided to upgrade my computer and have everything except the power supply. I am unsure exactly what to look for when it comes to PSU's. Currently I have a 500w PSU ( http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/computer-accessories/RF-500WPS2.html ) that I love (it has all sorts of connectors!) but I don't think that is enough for what I have now: Asus P8P67-M PRO REV 3.0 i5-2500k (Want the option to OC) GTX 560 1024MB 8GB (2x4) DDR3 2 HDD I am on a tight budget as I already spent a little more than I wanted on the other components so I am not looking for the greatest and latest, just something that will do the job at a fair price. Also wanting …

Hi fellows, I'm starting to build my pc or at least searching for the best parts.. I'm thinking on buying on amazon.co.uk since I live in Europe. Do you think it's safe to buy expensive material online? If so, is amazon any good on that? Anyone used it before or used another supplier online? Thank you.

I am wondering if I got a bad CPU. I just built a 3770k on an ASUS-P8Z77-V deluxe and am running it with the default optimized bios and stock intel CPU cooler. The default settings boost the clock from 3.5 to 3.9 ghz at load. Running FSX Mark 11 I am getting CPU temperatures of 81 degrees celsius measured with Real Temp software. This seems very high for out of the box default settings. I also noticed that the highset cpu fan rpm is about 1600 rpm per the Hardware Monitor software. Is this normal and what others have found or should I be taking this chip back for replacement? Unfortunately Microcenter only has a 15 day replacement policy so I got 2 days left to figure…

Hi all, I've been putting getting a new machine off for quite some time due to various reasons, now I am committed to get a new rig. Below are some parts that I've already decided on, some parts still undecided (needing your help), and some I have no idea. To keep this short and easy to read, I will try to explain myself in point form, hope to get some feedbacks and suggestions. *****Aim***** To get a machine where I can fly my addons (won't be anything stupid I hope) at a stable 30fps at any time Main addons being all the weather ones, terrain or environment enhancements, EZCA, PMDG recent products (NGX, future 777, 747 v2 etc.), ORBX scenery, potential…

I'm having a hard time holding off much longer so have been shopping prebuild machines, a first for me except for my first 486/33Mhz system way back when (4X sony CD Drive was ...$400!). I'm aiming for a machine that is well adapted to XPlane 10 or beyond, 64bit, but will run FSX/P3D well too. Here are the questions, and below the configuration. Many thanks in advance for your shared insights ;o) Would 32Gb of ram over 16Gb significantly lower overclockability? In this type of system & application, does PCIe 3.0 add much to 'performance' in either sim? I ask to help me decide if it's worth waiting for IB-E multi core processor primarily. I really would like at …

Hi fellows, First, apologise if this is not the correct place to talk about this. If so, please move or delete post and you can send me a private message with your tips. I'm looking to build a desktop pc exclusively for FSX with the main add ons being from PMDG and Aerosoft. For now, i have a list with this: PSU - OCZ 700w Motherboard - Asus sabertooth z77 CPU - Intel i5 3570k Graphic card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 660Ti 2gb OR ATI Radeon HD 7870 2gb (big doubt here at the moment) Cooler - Corsair H100 RAM - 8gb or 16gb GSkill 2400 Hard drive - western digital black edition 1TB Drive - SSD OCZ 128gb I don't need a super machine to run 50fps or some…

Thanks AVSIM for a great guide, Started overclocking for the first time yesterday using the steps recommended. This is a question regarding core temps and stability (using i3770K, Cooler Master EVO 212 & P8z77-v Pro) IBT tests are successful at all levels running from 4.1 to 4.5GHz (1.2v core) Real Temp shows temps reaching 90-94 for the max stress level @ 4.5GHz FSX Guide p.6, mentions that i7-2 & 3xxxk series can easily run @ 4.5 GHz on their stock cooler. P.7 states that below 80 C the system is fine w/ FSX, but 90C may be close to maximum. Web recommendations for this combo varies between 4.1 or 4.5. Higher values can be reached with better cooling. …

Hi everyone, I just wanted some imput on upgrading my current laptop to something a little better. The laptop is an Acer Aspire 6930G, specs: 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo GeForce 9600M 512Mb 3Gb DDR2 RAM 320gb HDD 5400 rpm 32 bit Win Vista As the laptop has a second Hard Drive bay, my thoughts are to keep the existing HDD for Windows and add a 500GB, 7200rpm HDD for FSX. Then upgrade the OS to Windows 7-64bit. The new OS would then allow me to upgrade the RAM to 6gb, by keeping the 2gb stick and replacing the 1gb with a 4gb stick. My question is, will these improvements be possilbe in terms of hardware compatibility and will they bring an improvement to FSX…

Hello, Moderators, if this topic isin correct for this forum, feel free to move. I was 2 hours into a flight and my new build suddenly lost all power. I cannot turn it on, nothing happens when I use the power switch attached to the PSU. I believe something happen with the wall outlet, because it is not working now. Just checked the circuit breaker and it was tripped. I had 2 surge protectors plugged into the wall outlet. Surge Protector #1 - New build, monitors, speakers, etc Surge Protector#2 - Old computer, monitor I plugged everything into another wall outlet, the old computer works fine but my new build has no power. Specs (not OC): P…

Hmm...I can't change my VOR frequency cause it requires the mouse wheel. My laptop trackpad scrolls fine in Windows and programs but it won't turn the knob in FSX. Solution? Don't say plug in a mouse cause this is suppose to be a portable solution. How can I make the touchpad emulate a mouse wheel properly?

Hi friends. I have saved a little "upgrade" money and would really appreciate some sound advice on what I should spend the money on. I fly exclusively the PMDG products and have many add ons for airports and Traffic. The obvious goal is to get a smooth running set up with as many FPS as possible. So I have $1,500 -$2,000 to spend. Here are my current specs. for you to see what I should replace and what I can keep. Thanks very much for your time and thoughts in advance.
