I have a question for the experts regarding Hyperthreading. When enabled does Hyperthreading in an unclocked Intel Ivy Bidge i7 Processor with Windows 7 64 bit OS actually slow down FSX ? Or does it not matter remembering we're talking about an unclocked system. Regards, Donair

According to Tweaktown, Haswell's heat spreader is lower than Ivy Bridge's (by .04mm) and this *may* require a different mounting kit in order for existing cooling systems to work. If your cooler is spring-loaded then you should be fine though as the hole spacing remains identical to LGA 1156/1155. The good news is this should address the horrid thermal properties that Ivy Bridge exhibited, particularly if Intel opts to solder the IHS to the CPU die again, as they do now with other chips like Sandy Bridge E.

Hello, I am building a new computer and was wondering which processor will give me a faster FPS rate for FSX, the Intel I7 3770K or the AMD 8350FX.

hello all. due to my military service i have been out of the loop for a while when it comes to FSX and PC hardware. and now that the next couple of years i will be on shore duty i figure it would be a great time to get back in. i was wondering if anyone could help in recommending the hardware i should get for a new rig. i like to fly the heavy stuff (PMDG, ect) and like to use addon weather and scenery and of course the AI. so i would need something that can handle that, im hoping computer power has advanced enough to get good FPS now with sliders almost maxed? i would like to keep this project below 2,000 if possible. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks …

Is there a major difference in FPS between 4.5ghz and 4.7ghz in FSX ? Would appreciate of knowing. Also what should the PLL value be when OCing a 3770k machine to either 4.5 or 4.7 ghz (asus z77 deluxe, kingston beast 2400mhz 16gb ram, gtx 670) Thanks a lot.

I have a Dell Inspiron I5 2.8 CPU, Nvidea 550 2Gig GPU 8 GB 1600 Ram, 650 Watt PS. (mobo is stock Dell) As far as my experience I have built from mobo up but just stock. I have found that it is cheaper to buy from Dell Outlet and swap parts. Anyway how much (and how do I) overclock CPU safely without changing anything else and not compromising the CPU. Thanks for any help, Ron

It all started with me wanting to investigate how using an SSD instead of a regular HDD affects performance in FSX. But during the course I ended up looking in to a lot more as well. Please see Kostas Software and hardware guide for different abbreviations and terms used and a bit more details about them. I divide FSX performance in to 4 difference categories, in no particular importance: Texture loading Load times FPS Stutters Please feel free do skip forward and just read the recap at the bottom of the post if you are not too bothered about how I got to my findings. Load times are easy to measure with a stopwatch, FPS and stutters can be anal…

Ok so I was getting 15 FPS at fly tampa dubai in the NGX at 4.5 Ghz I removed the over clock and now I get a smooth 20 to 25 FPS whats wrong with my CPU? I will say I've never got the overclock stable no matter how much voltage I throw at the chip it wont stay stable over 4.3 Ghz while other guys have theirs stable a 5 Ghz with just a slight voltage bump. One thing I do notice even at stock clockspeeds in OCCT the CPU underclocks to 3ghz for a few seconds even at 100% load do I have a bad chip or mobo?

Hi, I have been experiencing some difficulty for the last week or so. I upgraded my nVidia drivers to 314.07 and my first flight in FSX crashed the PC (powered itself off). During the flight I heard a high-pitched squeal from the computer but didn't pay attention to it until I was suddenly staring at a black screen. I immediately suspected the drivers (saw some ppl complaining about various things online, but nothing like my shutdown problem). I reverted to 310.90 drivers I used previously (uninstalled and fresh-installed them) but the problem remained. Today I used Prime95 and stressed my CPU for about a half hour. Nothing happened so I shut that program off and…

Hi all, I am think of adding some more ram to my system, I currently have 4gb of corsair 1600mhz in two sticks,I was thinking of going upto 8gb, would it be ok to add another two sticks of the same memory in or should I buy 8msi gb in two 4gb sticks? I remember when I built my system it was best to only have two stick in at a time, does it real make a big ddifference, please see my SPEC below. Windows 7 64bit Msi Gd55 motherboard. I5 2500k o/c to 4.5ghz using 1.35 volts. 4 gb of corsair 1600mhz xms Evga 660ti. Mark

Im on a budget, and cant go to the heights of a 2500K or 3570K. My FSX will entail only PMDG aircrafts,REX and GEX. No addon airports. Also in my FSX settings I dont need all sliders to be maxed, just want it to look decent, so I guess that is where REX, GEX and ENB should fit in. One major area for me also is the time in which textures take to sharpen. In my current 1045T, it takes 35seconds from looking like mud to becoming sharp. That really needs to improve for me. I also wont be using DX10. So my question is which should I get? Intel Core i5 3350p Intel Core i5 3470 Intel Core i3 3220 AMD FX 8350 Thanks

Long time lurker and about to come back to simming. Read lots of posts about "maxed" out FSX and replies saying how this cannot be done with current hardware. However, I noticed that most of these posts mention that AI and autogen have substantial impact on perfromance. Given that I do not care at all about AI and autogen, is there, and if so which, hardware that can run FSX smoothly without stuttering during landing/takeoffs? I would primarily run PMDG737 NGX or likes in complex sceneries (e.g. Aerosoft Frankfurt, etc.). I would also like to have good quality of clouds (i.e. overcast should be overcast). Another question, is running in higher resolution (…

I'm finally tiring of FS9 and have started looking at a new system for FSX which I hope will run it as fluently as my current E8400 / 8800GTX runs FS9. Although I have built my last 3 systems I'm probably going to buy one from a specialist UK company - Palicomp. Here is the spec:- INTEL Core i5 3570K (Quad Core) OVERCLOCKED TO 4.7Ghz Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z77X-D3H Cooling: CORSAIR CWCH80 WATER COOLER Memory: PATRIOT VIPER V3 RED 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz OR 16GB DDR3 2133Mhz Hard Drive 1: CRUCIAL M4 128GB SATA3 (SSD Is Setup As Split 18GB Intel Smart Response Drive & Storage) Hard Drive 2: SEAGATE 2TB SATA2 Optical Drive: HITACHI BLU-RAY COMBO Drive, Blu-Ray…

Looks like it is about a 20% increase in performance over SandyBridge and a 10% increase over Ivy Bridge. - If these prove to OC to 5GHZ then I will build a new Haswell rig at release! Source

Hello all! I have for a long time been into flightsimming, but as I at the moment have a laptop, I can only fly default FSX with no addons :( So through the past year or so I have saved up for a upgrade and I finally have enough money  I was wondering if you could help me get the right parts? I already have put together a list of components, but I would very much like to hear your opinions  My budget is around 1600-1700 $ I plan on flying the FSL 320-X and the PMDG 777, maybe the NGX also, with a few addon airports, REX and no AI traffic. CPU = i5 3570K Cooler = Noctua NH-D14 Motherboard = ASRock Z77 Extreme3 GPU = MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edit…

I've seen some confusion around SSD's not performing or making much of a difference in one's system or a difference in FSX, XP10, P3D, etc. So here are some things that might help clarify: SATA is 1.5GB/s SATA II is 3GB/s SATA III is 6GB/s Motherboards often have a mix of SATA ports, they are NOT all the same -- some are SATA II and some are SATA III and some maybe even be SATA. You'll need to check with your motherboard manufacturer/manual as it should clearly define which ports support the various different SATA specifications. Does it make a difference in performance which port you use for your SSD, yes, absolutely. For example I have two OCZ Vector …

Over the last year I added many addons an dmy system is running very stable without CTD's. However running a setup with 3 monitors for my outside view I cannot lock my fps at 30 and use 1/2 refresh rate as at many detailed scenery my fps drop to 20-23.. There fore I have locked my fps to 20 and use 1/3 Refresh rate, which is smoother than just locking my fps at 24. I was wondering if upgrading my 2600K , running at 4.8Ghz to a 3770K, running at 4.8Ghz would make any difference. In that way I do not have to upgrade my motherboard and have te reinstall Windows, FSX and lots of addons, which cost me almost 3 weeks 3 years ago.

See my current system to the left. What if I get this upgrade package ? http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010641364/dustin-uppgraderingspaket-intel-i5-3570k-s-1155/#intcmp=searchProvider_dacsa Will that give me a significant improved FSX performance where I can use complex add on planes and scenery like ORBX together with advanced weather with many clouds with high slider settings ? What limitations should still remain for me ? Is it maybe pointless to upgrade Mobo+RAM+CPU without also getting a more powerful video card ? Will my Corsair 520W PSU be sufficient ? Does a system that performs significantly better in FSX than my suggested upgrade even exist ?

How will this computer run in FSX? I wont be planning to use any aftermarket airports, though i will use the PMDG 737 and 777 , REX and GEX (or FTX Global). Hi guys, I have been assigned to do a build for an organisation which has not much ideas about how important power is to FS. Thus I have figured with the limitations that's been put on me, I am going with an FS9 build. As I have just been researching on absolute top-end components for FSX, I am not so great with FS9 (middle/lower end) components. So please tell me whether this can run FS9 with simple simple addons any good? CPU: i3 3220 3.0GHz GFX: Asus GT630 1GB RAM: Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) 1333MHz MB: Asus P8Z77-M.Z77 uATX HDD: WD 500GB SATA3 Cavier Blue Case: Huntkey XM1002 PSU: Corsair VS450 Essentially I have the budget of having the computer for…
