  3. Can anyone help me find the cause and a possible remedy for this problem: I have been running FS9 on my PC (ACER Travelmate 7730 laptop) without any issues for the past three years. Now since two weeks I regularly have an issue about the machine "overheating" and shutting itself down. This problem only occurs when I have FS9 running. I have made no modifications to my FS setup other than added a few planes, AI plans and AFCADs. What could the cause be? Is there something I can look up on the software side (FS, OS, others)? Which tool to use? Or is it a hardware damage? Thanks for any hints. Chris

I have not really looked at hardware in a long time, nor have I been playing with FSX much lately. I would like to get back into it, and I am considering a new computer to go along with it. Here's my challenge for those of you who are familiar with hardware, FSX, and the relationship between the two. I am asking for people who actually understand what really works best for FSX in terms of hardware. I want you to help me select the best components for a set budget. The budget: $500 The place: Newegg.com Here's is what I need in that budget: Motherboard RAM CPU GPU You have $500 to give me the best combination of those four items to give th…

So right now I have 8GB running very low in MHz. First does faster RAM speed make a difference within FSX? I wanted to upgrade to 16GB....Will that improve performance? What RAM would you recommend? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231528 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231571 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231560 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231486 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568 Thanks for your help!!

I was just interested in buying a soundcard, for example the Asus Xonar Essence STX, and I was just wondering, how does one... ... connect these three plugs ... which I normally just connect into my motherboard right here ... into this soundcard which doesn't have any of those black, green or orange connectors? I'm using a mid range Creative 5.1 T6160 with subwoofer, which I'm more than happy with. It features these three black, green and orange plugs. But infortunately all soundcards have completely different connectors on them. So how the hell will I be able to connect my subwoofer to my soundcard?! Via some kind of adapter or something? …

I'm looking at this ssd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249033 It doesn't perform on the absolute top of the charts... but it averages out with read/write/disk access time above most other drives... So far I'm seeing their 5 year warranty - huge plus in my opinion... 4K random read - way up @ 100,000 iops My questions are about their controller. Is the Marvell controller any good? Reliable? There's not many reviews on this model anywhere. Anandtech has a good benchmark (dated now) that I'm going off of: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6328/samsung-ssd-840-pro-256gb-review/4

Okay, this is pretty weird. Right now I'm back down to my original 4.2GHz with 1.315v. My idle temperature is about 40 Celcius, and this is stable. I'm trying to get 4.5, and every time I start a test with Prime95 I BSOD after about 1 min. and 30 seconds. I "trial" checked 4.5 with, firstly, 1.320v. I BSOD'ed after ~1:20. Then I tried 1.330, and same thing. Then, after a lot of different voltages, I tried 1.355v, and I STILL BSOD'ed. I kinda gave up on 4.5 because I didn't want to get any higher on my voltages. Any ideas? Thanks.

Dear Community, I recently purchased a ocz vertex 4 ssd, I am going to install my OS and Fsx on it because I don't run many addons. My question is would my ssd make stuff run "faster" or make any difference if I installed OS on a seperate ssd? Or will installing both OS and Fsx on one SSD be fine? Also what are the benefits of ssd raid 0 for fsx compared to single ssd with OS and Fsx? Does it make a difference in texture loading? Im on a budget and dont want to spend too much on another one, but I'm still worried if one will do the job for overall differences.

Hello dear simmers, I'm asking everyone with an AMD cpu here. I don't want Intel fans in here telling me I should've bought an Intel cpu, I have an AMD and don't want this thread turned into flames, ok? Now my little story, in december last year I bought myself the new AMD FX8350 8-core cpu and a new mobo (ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0). It's an upgrade from my old Phenom 2 X4 B50 which struggled quite a bit with the addons I installed over time. I'm now trying to get the most out of this new beast within FSX without overclocking. I'm running addons like REX Essential + Overdrive, GEX, UTX, Aerosoft airports (LOWI, ELLX) and at those 2 airports I'm getting 15-22 fps in t…

  17. Hi, Just need to get a few opinions. I currently have a phenom II X6 1045t 2.7ghz cpu that i recently bought. Will it be worth it if i purchase a Cooler Master 212 cooler and overclock to 3.2 - 3.4ghz using addons such as the pmdg737, rex, and gex?

  18. I'm looking to upgrade my current 6 year old PC to one that can run fsx at a reasonable level without breaking the bank. I'm hoping to run fsx with a few addons such as pmdg 737 and REX, however as I have never built a PC with fsx in mind before I was hoping for some guidance/advice. The specification I'm planning is listed below: CPU: Intel i5-3570k Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Memory: 8GB Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 1600MHz Graphics Card: 2GB GTX 650 Ti PSU: Corsair 650W I was hoping to overclock the CPU, (not to huge clock speeds just a boost) to get the most out of it for the price and was wondering whether investing in water cooling such as the H60 or H100 fro…

Hi All, Haven't been on the forums in a while a have finally decided I need a new rig and look forward to getting back into the sim world again. I see that the new Ivy Bridge cpu's need delidding on some models and I want to stay clear of this. I was looking at the i7 3930K - but dont think I need 6 cores for FSX. So my question - is the i7 2700K still the best option? I think i've got the rest of the rig ironed out - but still need some advice on cpu. Thanks in advance!

  22. My memory is rated at 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 2.1V and has an Extreme Memory Profile (XMP). In BIOS the options are "Auto", "Profile2", and "Disabled". I'm currently overclocking the CPU but planning to keep the memory at stock values. My overclocked system passes Intel Burn Test and OCCT at 3.99GHz but keeps failing Prime95 at even 3.90GHz. So I'm wondering if it's the memory settings? Q1) What exactly does "Auto" configure (I assume Profile2 is the XMP profile)? Q2) Does the XMP profile keep the dram voltage at 2.1V? Q3) Should I disable XMP and set all the memory values manually? Q4) Is it better to set the dram voltage manually when overclocking the system? Curren…

I have a propriatery motherboard made by Asus for HP ( A8m2n-la) with a Athlon 64 X2 5200 2.6 Ghz processor and a Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 video card 4 Gig DDR2 667 Ram running XP SP3 and FSX. The motherboard is upgraded to the latest bios but does not allow ovedrclocking. I tried it with ntune and it does bring the processor up to 2.7 Ghz, but it is not enough to smooth out FSX (it stutters in turns). My framerates are not too bad. Taking off from JFK, I fluctuate from 19-30 FPS. I can't afford to upgrade my MB at the present time, but I can upgrade my processor. The Max my board can take is the X2 6400 @3.2 Ghz. I have a AMD Phenom II X4 965(BE) Deneb on a MSI 780G mobo. I can raise the CPU clock from default 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz without problem. But if I go to 4 GHz I will encounter occasional blue screens in FSX (but not in other games it seem so far). By monitoring the temperature I can see that it is not the problem. It goes up to max a little bit above 50 deg C (I have a hyper 212+ cooler). The voltage is listed as 1.45 V and I can't change that since menu option is grayed out.
