My name is Anthony and I'm an SSD addict! I seriously can't get enough of these things and I think I have a problem. Haha Only a couple of weeks ago I picked up a 256Gb and a 512Gb Samsung 830 drive. The larger being FSX dedicated and one for my boot drive. Then I migrated my 120Gb Vertex 3 to my secondary pc. Now I'm thinking of grabbing another SSD in the 120Gb-256Gb range for my other games, only it will have to run off a Sata 2 port. You think it's worth it? I think I have a problem! Might need to book into rehab! They are just so blazingly fast! What's your pc/hardware addiction??

Hi, does it make a noticeable difference between 2400 MHz or 2600 MHz RAM for FSX on an oced Ivy platform? I'm thinking of buying GSkill Trident X 8 GB 2600 or GSkill Trident X 16 GB 2400 RAM. This will be a FSX only platform, therefore it's not really necessary to take 16 GB of RAM I think. Thanks in advance

So, here is my updated look at SSD vs HDD. I decided to post it as a separate topic however it is an update to my previous topic “Texture loading + HDD vs SSD”. You might need to look at this original topic in order to understand a few things. I hope this answers a lot of questions with regards to SSDs and where to install FSX that pop up all the time on the forum. There are still a few more configurations I would have liked to look at but the fact that a plastic piece on the SATA power connector on my Velociraptor broke and me moving house stopped me from further testing and presenting the results are long overdue as well. What I have looked at is a combi…

I have been looking for some time at getting hold of an addon touchscreen for one of my monitors, basically it holds the NGX CDU, FS2Crew GUI, FDSFX and the FSX ATC panel, all of which can be used with a simple click. I can't really justify the cost of a new 17" touchscreen monitor, but I could justify maybe $80 for an addon screen. I've seen an array of these addons for sale on Ebay. Most all seem to originate from China... I'd be really excited about getting my hands on one, but unsure I want to part with any cash without hearing some first hand reports...does anyone around here use anything similar?

On my overclocked system, I kept experiencing random FSX crash-to-desktops. I didn't matter how long, what I was flying or where I was going-- the crashes were completely random. I checked all the usual suspects-- video drivers, bgl files, memory, add-ons, etc. I have tortured tested my system with Intels burn test and Prime 95-- both passing with no issues, so I was fully stumped. The crash dumps kept pointing to random modules so that was of no help. I also tried the uiautomationcore file-- and still the random forced exits. So before pulling out what vanishing hair I have left, I bumped the vcore voltage on my system from 1.320 to 1.325 just in case (figu…

Hi guys, While I was doing my research for a new computer (needing to update all aspects of CPU and MB hardware etc.), I reached a point of needing to look at cooling systems. About 6 months ago I asked and searched around, and found Corsair H80 or H100 was rather popular, and I don't know whether things have improved since then. I know there is the H100i and the H80i, except I haven't found the difference between the old Hxx and the new Hxxi. However, during this time, I found this Corsair T30, which looks mean: http://hothardware.c...oling-Ice-T30-/ (Youtube clip if you are interested ) Just wondering has anyone used this before? Does this thing liv…

Hello Not sure if this is the right way to go about this? I have put together a new system and am very concerned about the CPU temps. At idle between 60 to 70 celcius and up to 101 when running FS9. I am running FS9 and last night flying a DE Havilland Dash7 form Portland Oregan to Victoria BC I was about three minutes away from landing and the screen went black. Lost the flight and had to reboot and when I looked at the temps they were in the mid 90's. I am just using the CPU fan and a 120mm rear running at max speed at this time. I would prefer air cooling over liquid but not sure of what will do the best job so I am open to all suggestions, even liquid cool…

Hi All, At the start of the holidays, and after a crash, I installed a new WD Caviar Black 1TB drive for FSX and its addons. The computer wouldn't recognise it, and it had to be RMA'd, Since it was holidays, and being impatient to get on, I installed a Seagate Barracuda 1TB, which I had forgotten from a previous system. As of now I have FSX on the Barracuda, and a replacement new Caviar Black available in the system, and that makes me nervous. Do you think it advisable to leave FSX as it is, or would it be of advantage to have FSX on the new Caviar Black? If a change is good, is there a simple way to go about it without another re-install? Thanks, Ji…

Hello, I currently have my FX 6300 running at 4.2Gz. To achieve this I turned up the multiplier, turned off the turbo boost option, and also turned off the cool and quiet mode. I did not adjust voltage - I just left it set to auto. Everything seems to be running good with this set up and temperatures have only reached 25 degrees Celsius during load tests. I am new to overclocking, in fact this is the first CPU that I have ever overclocked and I have some questions: 1: I would like to run my CPU at 4.5 or 4.7Ghz, however, when I increase the multiplier to anything above 4200Mhz I get error messages from Windows saying my computer is being shut down to prevent dama…

My system is a Gateway FX6860 U20 with I7 2600. I am familiar with the process of changing settings in the BIOS. I run (independently) from two separate identical spec hard drives and routinely go into the BIOS to change the boot sequence to the drive I want to boot. I wanted to try disabling hyper threading when I run FSX but I can find so setting for that in the BIOS. Under CPU the only settings I find are AES-NI, Turbo Boost, XD Bit, and Intel VT. I have entered the BIOS setup both ways that are indicated on the flash screen (Del key or F12 key) but both end up in the same setup menu. Is there some "mystery" key combo that gains access to a more complete BIOS set…

My new build is finally complete and I just loaded a clean copy of FSX. It's my first time using FSX (long time FS9 user), so I'm getting familiar with where files are located. I have a very newbie slightly embarrassing question. I've found the fsx.cfg file (user/my name/AppDatat/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX) I've read the guide many times to become familiar before making changes. Do I physically type in the tweeks to the fsx.cfg? For example, I would type in the fsx.cfg [bUFFERPOOLS] Poolsize=0 Usepools=0 [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 I thought the above would already be in the fsx.cfg and i would be making edits but I can't find anything. So, prob…

Right now, I am in the process of acquiring my master's degree in Computer Science. Long story short, funded by the school we are all acquiring new software that will be undergoing testing. Bottom line, I am going to have this new computer to test drive for awhile. I am pretty freakin excited. You will be too once I share the specs. FSX is one of the software i'll be testing! Here are the specs i'll be having. Intel Core i7-3930K Overclocked to 5.2 Ghz 6 Cores A brand new GTX 690 with 4 GB of memory Superclocked Aquipped with 32 GB of RAM (16X2) Windows 7 x64 Ultimate FSX won't be the only thing we will be testing. I will be sure to come back and s…

Hello all,i have a serious lag problem with FSX in to a nice pc, when i start a flight it's ok, nice fps, but after a while i have 2 problems, one is the drop of fps slowly, in the cruce level not much, but when i'm approaching to the zone of destination, the fps drop considerably and i tested same position with a recently restarted pc and fps are ok and estable, second problem is when im on the cruce level or few minutes flying, not at the start, when i look around, the fps drop down horrible, but if i not move the camera, fps are very good, i find thats could be a sound problem because if i press "q" and deactivate all the sound, the fps when i looking around are very g…

Hi All, Just finished building a new PC for FSX and i'm testing the frames to see if the new hardware is any good, but i'm not sure if i'm getting all i can out of my new system. I currently get between 15-35fps at Dubai (OMDB) with the new Dubai Rebooted from FlyTampa and Airbus X Extended (in detail: 21 on takeoff, 15 past the terminal with traffic, 32 above Dubai city). Do you think this is as good as I will get or is my rig capable of getting much higher fps with more tweaking? Additional info: Hardware: i7 3770K @ 4.5GHz (HT off) Asus P8-Z77LX NGTX 560 ti Twin Frozr II OC (latest driver) 8GB Corsair Vengeance Ram 1600MHz Corsair H100 Cooling (Pro…

Hello all; FSX is always better on faster CPU's, is a dual processor motherboard (like this one) would work better?, I know it's for workstations but my question is: how come no one tried it before (as far as I know) to improve FSX performance? Thanks for your input

Hello everyone, I recently aquired a new iMac and I would kindly ask for your help in tunning it with the best settings for a smooth FSX performance. (I know it's not the best for FSX but this is all I have, I'm Running windows 7 natively on a bootcamp partition). Attached are some pictures with my machine specs along with the Nvidia-inspector settings. Thank You! Sincerely ******* Hernandez

I am getting back into the hobby after some considerable absence. I am going to build my own machine, and am looking at the following motherboard upon which I will base the build: ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS The salient question: Is this board overkill, or will I get equal performance out of a Z77 board? I am basing the decision on the Ivy Bridge i7 3770K 3.5 processor, but admittedly I am at a loss as to whether I am spending too much on the MB for no appreciable gain in performance. I have already purchased the TQS from Throttletek, and a FMC + MCP for the 737. Am not going full cockpit build, but will…

I need advice on o/c and de-lidding. i7-3770k, Asus p8z77-v deluxe, corsair 4x8gb 1600, corsair 1200i, integrated intel graphics 4000 on-board ( may buy gtx 690 or something lower or what is next after 690 ? ), hts with fan block that came with cpu. I am new to o/c. The Manual Mode tab for AsuS TurboV EVO powered by TPU is full of different figures and don't know where to start. The other tab is Auto Tuning GPU Boost. I have no water cooling; is Thermaltake Water Extreme 2.0 a good liquid cooling block ? Is it better to do de-lidding of cpu using Coollaboratory Liquid Pro ? What exactly does full and idle load mean ? Sorry if it sounds silly. Can on-board in…

Hey guys. I need some expert opinion. I want to upgrade my gfx card from a 9500gt to either a radeon 7750 or radeon 7770. I want to know how they will run on fsx with my pmdg 737 (ie if textures would load immediately etc). The 7750 is much cheaper and if i select that i will order it immediately. However if i choose the 7770 i would have to wait till june/july. Which should i get and are there vast diffrences? Btw system is Phenom ii x6 1045t 4gb ram 1333 ddr3 Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
