I have tried out several SSD drives and encountered several failures. Also had a lot of work making sure latest firmware is installed. My latest SSD to give me trouble is a Intel 330 series 180G. This time I have start thinking about getting a Velociraptor 500G instead. I like its guarantee of five years and the bigger size which would enable me to have not only FSX stuff on it. In addition to that I don't have to fear that FSX stuff will fill up the drive. I might point out that a have an older mobo MSI KA780G MS-7551 which only supports SATA II but not SATA III. What do you think ? Is a WD Velociraptor 500G a better choice than another SSD ?

Or at least mine seems to, from what I've seen of the voltages others are achieving. Seems I have a chip that needs voltage. I let Asus Turbo V Evo do it's thing, and it gave me 4.7 GHz, but at a very high voltage of 1.46 Volts. Temps in Aida were right up to 93 degrees on one of the cores, I shudder to think how high the temp would have been in prime. Yikes! Thanks Asus, seems the algorithm you cliam to be first rate, isn't first rate at all. The other three cores were 10 degrees cooler. Such a variance in temps across the cores, the garbageTIM Intel used perhaps? De-lidding required perhaps? I figured that Asus Turbo V might be overvolting, so I fine tuned the v…

  3. Hi, I'm looking for help with my system which I have upgraded to in the summer. It was my first build and I learnt a huge amount from doing it, but I am definitely still a pc system noob! I bought all new parts for the system to hopefully ensure a trouble free setup, no such luck! The computer randomly crashes and I cannot find a cause or a solution for it! When the computer works it wors very well ans shows no sign of any problems, and then all of a sudden it will freeze, do nothing for a while and then shut down as if the plug has been pulled. Sometimes it will work for 4 or more hours with FSX, other games, movies or CAD working then freeze, other times I don't even ge…

Hi, I've been wondering about how I could connect a Multi Panel to my Saitek yoke, since all USB ports on the yoke have been taken up. Could I plug in one of those 4-port USB hubs and make it work that way or does it have to be connected directly into the yoke? Also, if I use a SPAD profile for PMDG aircraft on the Multi Panel, would I be able to see the values of what I'm changing on the LED screen itself? Here's an example: I'm twisting the knob to change the altitude. If the altitude value on the PMDG 747's autopilot in FSX itself is 6300, will my Multi Panel show 6300 too? Or is the 744X too complex to see this? Thanks alot for any suggestions. C…

  8. I had been experiencing a number of sudden issues with my hand-built FSX simulator and was pleased to discover that ASUS has released a new BIOS update which made reference to addressing certain issues between the ASUS BIOS and the GTX680 card (and by extension, I would presume the GTX690 cards as well). From the ASUS website: P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1) BIOS 3602 1.Improve compatibility with Windows 8 OS. << I'm not going there yet! 2.Improve system stability. <<< this is a VERY big improvement from what I can see in the early going! 3.Enhance compatibility with some USB devices. <<<< this made a huge difference with my VRinsight hardware!…

All What are the loading time differences like between a 7200rpm HDD and an SSD? At the moment it can take me up to 3-4 minutes from clicking on the FSX icon to finding myself in the cockpit and its bugging me. Is there a huge difference in FSX loading time with an SSD? If so would you put OS and FSX on it or OS on the HDD and FSX only on the SSD? Cheers Martin

  10. I haven't posted here in ages and I finally got a job ($7.80 USD an hour for 15 hours a week.) I've been long due for a new computer (see specs in my sig) and I'm thinking about either going with an ASUS G75VW gaming laptop for $1250+tax and stuff, so about $1300, or building a computer for the equivalent price (including monitor, keyboard, case and Windows... And possibly wifi card.) Along with gaming I'm also gonna be processing and storing large amounts of raw audio. Just something to keep in mind. I do plan on overclocking, though. What I've got so far is: Intel i7-3770K Ivy Bridge @3.5GHz: $300 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116501 ASUS P8Z77-V P…

With the exception of a terrible mistake in the late 2000's and buying a retail brand system (it was such a bloated xxxxx), I have always built my own systems. I'll typically check out the better known PC builders, like Origin and Falcon Northwest, and piece the same hardware they are using. So the following list of parts are an example of what one company is using in their system. What costs $4000.00 from them, can be built for under two thousand (I'll be using my existing hard drives). I am sitting on the fence with the CPU and Motherboard though. I'm looking to overclock to at least the 4.7ghz range. Is the motherboard I selected the best one? or is it over…

In my FSX and FSX.CFG it is showing that its using Intel integrated Graphics how ever i am still gettingaround 18 to 20 FPS in the NGX VC with FSDREAMTEAM Klas and AI traffic.so I don't know what the issue is. But in the Nvidia control panel it is showing it is using the high performance Nvidia GPU. I have tried rebooting rewriting my FSX.CFG and doing a system restore to no avail so i was wondering if you guy's had any idea. .My GpU is an Nvidia GT 610M. and it is a laptop. Hi! Finally, I did it! I ordered my new machine today. After 5 years with my E6850 C2D with 4GB RAM and a GTX260 with 896MB, the following setup is (hopefully) going to be my clue to a stutter free and nicely performing FSX: i5 3570K (with Skythe cooler) ASUS P8Z77 V-Pro Mainboard 16 GB DDR 3 RAM 1600 CL9 ASUS GTX 670 2GB 480 GB SSD Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit The machine will probably arrive by the end of next week. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to o/c this setup. Any tips are highly appreciated! And, at which maximum clock speed will this setup be still rock stable? Thanks in advance and greets, Michael

Hello All, I hope the regulars don't get too sick of seeing these threads. The threads are all so incredibly helpful and I would not be able to do this without all the good information in the forums. I'll try to be brief and to the point. I've spent a lot of time researching and have read Word Not Allowed's guide countless times (I'm not tech savvy and all the damn numbers and letters next a MOBO mean nothing to me) I have a great system now but it doesn't have the guts for FSX and other things I'm wanting to do. Usage: I only use the computer for flight sim. No music, a few photos on the hard drive but nothing too much. I won't be watching movies. I rea…

  23. I am considering building a new box and was wondering if it will be worth the dollars spent. I currently have an i7-950 overclocked to 3.8GHz paired with a 560ti card. Using Word Not Allowed's tweaks (thanks!) and running 1920x1080, i normally get 30 fps in most situations, however I run with no traffic, 8xS and no transparency AA. Other settings are not maxed, but they are pretty high. With some weather or with the iFly 737 or NGX, frame rates can decrease to the low 20s. I'm looking for two things out of this upgrade to the 3770K (plan to OC to around 4.6) and a GTX 680 - 1) Better image quality (same resolution but higher AA), higher autogen but no AI tr…

I don't want to start a new thread about a new build, since I'm still researching (I've read Word Not Allowed's guide dozens of times...thank you). I do a have a question about a processor. I just came across a pretty good deal for the i73770K, I think. I live near one of their stores. http://www.microcenter.com/product/388575/Core_i7_3770K_35GHz_LGA_1155_Processor. $229. My questions is, should I buy now or wait for something better to come along? I realize that something is always being developed. I remember reading here that a better processor might be coming out that might be good for FSX. I honestly can't remember the name. I'm not in a huge rush but I…
