  1. Alright, I just have a quick question for ya'll. I want to change my laptop's processor to try and increase the speed from a max of 2.8 Ghz to maybe a max of 3.2 Ghz with the new processor that I am looking at. Right now I've got a AMD A8-4500M W/ Radeon HD 7640G Graphics, its base speed is 1.9 Ghz, and it can TB to 2.8 Ghz. What I want is a AMD A10-4600M W/ Radeon HD 7660G Graphics, its base speed is 2.4 Ghz and it can TB to 3.2 Ghz. The caches are the same, so that's not a problem. I am not a hardcore gamer. and I want a good value. I am not a computer whiz, but I can put a processor in a PC. Thanks, flyboy...

  2. I have the following setup, built mainly for BF3 in october 2010: ASUS Rampage III Extreme X58, Corsair Dominator DHX DDR3 1333MHz 16GB (4x4), Intel® Core i7-960 Processor 3,2 Ghz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480, 2x Western Digital Caviar® Black 1TB, Win7 Ultimate 64bit. Fitted a GTX590 as soon as it came out, also fitted a i7-980 3,33 processor about a year ago. I run FSX, PMDG 737NGX, FSG,REX,GEX,UTX I know this is not the best setup for FSX but it is very good for BF3. As my interest now is moving towards FS I am now thinking about rebuilding. Do I have something to work with here or would I be better off selling off this rig and build a new one? I am in th…

  4. Hi there, I recently purchased a few new add ons for FSX, OpusFSX, REXe, FTX AU, Horizon Photo Scenery and Treescapes, along with the Quality Wings 146 and the Quality Wings 757. My performance whilst using these add ons is somewhat mediocre especially whilst using OpusFSX to generate the weather and flying the 146. I only use 10% AI settings and Med/High autogen settings. I would like to eventually purchase the NGX and be able to fly in reasonably busy skies with decent weather depiction, and with the release of the new ORBX England scenery on the way I don't think it will be possible my my current setup? I'm currently contemplating on whether or not to upgra…

Hi Everyone I'm a long term lurker around these parts! After several years of happy FS2004 simming, the time has come to step up to FSX. But before a software change can happen, a big hardware refresh is required. I've been reading many threads and guides about this for some time, but a lot of this is very unfamiliar territory to me! I set myself a budget of £1,000 that I really cannot exceed, and that has to be for absolutely everything. So, I've come up with a shopping list! And I would really appreciate those who know more about this than me casting an eye over it and letting me know your thoughts, any room for potential improvement within budget, a…

Hi All, Just wanted some opinons from fellow flight simmers regarding SSD's. As it stands at the moment I have a 128GB OCZ Vertex 3 as my OS boot drive with FSX on a 1TB Seagate drive. I'm looking at picking up a second SSD with the intention of it being my dedicated FSX drive. Currently I'm looking at the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB or maybe the 512GB if I hold out a little longer. I'm just weighing up the cost at the moment as the 512GB is approx $200 AUD more expensive which also equates to 1 hour or real world flight training. I'm pretty new to SSD's, so just looking for opinions on if the Vertex 3 and Vertex 4 will play nice together? I'm sure they should …

Hi, I am seriously considering selling my iPad2 and using the money+some earned cash to upgrade to a newer more powerful tablet. I am leaning towards the iPad mini BUT, I am very intrigued by the new Win8 Tablets... I am still undecided and I would appreciate some input. BTW, Please don't turn this into a MS vs Apple Flame-war.... Thanks,

Not sure where to post this question, let me try in this hardware forum... I am looking for a tablet that I would link to my PC on which i use FSX. This tablet would be used essentially for running the display part of the Aivlasoft EFB. Has any one tried this setup with this Asus tablet mentioned in the title that runs with W7 hence offering easy compatibility with my main PC? That tablet also has USB connection, will I be able to connect it to my PC by wire instead of Wifi (I hate wifi, but this is another debate)? Some feedback from other users would be extremely helpful and I thank you in advance for any advice on this topic. SORRY I APOLOGISE, DOUBLE POSTI…

Okay, here's the problem. I bought an HP Pavilion DV6-7010US. It's a great laptop. The thing is though that it runs at 1.9Ghz (A little slow). Everything I have heard and read about it indicated that I could get it to go all the way up to 2.8 Ghz. (A little fast). Here's the specs: AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M @ 1.9 Ghz 6GB RAM AMD Radeon HD 7640G Discrete-Class Graphics If there's something I can do... please let me know. ,flyboy993.

Is it worth the risk? This question is for FS2004 Thanks guys!

Time for an upgrade, which means a new motherboard. The Asus P8Z77-V series seems to be best for my future Core i5-3570K. Anyone have a board preference from the extensive list of sub Z77 models below? I plan to do some mild to medium overclocking, but no de-lidding. I'm still just a newbie overclocker and need something simple. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=100006654&isNodeId=1&Description=p8z77-v&x=0&y=0 Too many choices!

Hello guys, Erick here. I just joined the forums, so sorry if my introduction was not the best in the world, heh.. I've been reading the forums for a while when looking for tips and tricks on how to make FSX run smoothly. However there is something that confuses me so far. I see people talk about getting respectable framerates at low clock speeds from their CPU, usually 2.8, or 3.0GHZ from AMD dual cores. I also note that FSX is mainly a CPU bound application, and I have read that upgrading a GPU does little to no difference, I find that hard to believe, but then again the people I've seen say that just say ''No, it won't help'' but they really don't give any expla…

Hi, Really hoping someone will be able to help... I've been on away for the past few months and was expecting the brilliant Michael Greenblatt to help me buy a new pc and set up FSX (now I'm back). And where are the best things to tweak graphics cards etc? I'm thinking of ordering this computer - http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1431 I don't kn…

.................or has it??? If you look at my computer specs you will see the DELL STUDIO XPS 8000 purchased in 2009 for approx €1000. The only component I changed was the Video Card because the original ( Geforce GTS240 OEM) gave up. Today I went searching around for a potential upgrade and I came across the DELL XPS 8500. For the price I fail to see what the huge difference is between this and my current three yr old PC. Is the advertised CPU and faster memory worth the investment in this upgrade? I should point out that I am not interested in overclocking, I use to be into all sorts of tweaking in a previous life but I'm really not interested ( possibly…
