Its time to build a new PC! Black friday and cyber monday are a comin' Currently, I have FSX running better than ever with REX, GEX, UTX and PMDG 737 NGX. I am getting very good frame rates (over 24fps) in all synarios, setup as per NickN instructions. Out of my current setup: i720 at 4.2 ghz GTX 580 (2 of them not that that matters) 8gig of ram at 1600mhz All on a gigabyte X58 UD7 version 2 I also have a Koolance liquid cooling system for the CPU, A SilverStone !000watts PSU and a great lian-li case. Also a couple of raptors 600 for FSX and 300 for OS I have seen spectacular FSX vids in youtube and am suffering from penis envy! I p…

  2. I think most of us at some time have used edits / tweaks to our FSX.CFG files from either/both ******* and Word Not Allowed ( both have added much to our experiences in FSX). I have for the past year used an FSX.CFG file that I had tweaked by the on-line service that ******* offers (and still does). Of course, a lot can happen to one of these files over the course of a year, including unwanted or incorrect entries made by the system in response to add-ons, etc. My system with this older file was exhibiting random pauses, so I decided to rename it and build a new file from scratch, then make Word Not Allowed’s edits / tweaks. I am now seeing a totally different issu…

Hey Folks, after getting back into flight simulation some days ago I feel I´ve got to change something related to my HDD: I run my PC with an single 1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD with two partititions: one smaller for the System and the rest for FSX and everything else. But as the HDD is now about 70% full and the speed has derceased a lot so that it´s a pain to open an programm (even if it´s Word), not to imagine several open programms running at the same time. So I thought it´s time for an change. My plan is the following: I get a dedicated 100 or 120 GB SSD for the system (as my system´s partitition is about 150 GB with 86 GB used) and for the rest a reasonable price…

For the past couple of weeks I have noticed when flying my Ram usage increases at a slow and steady pace while flying. Saturday in the NGX I left PHNL en-route to KPDX and while running AS2012, Aivlasoft EFB on VATSIM and on VAFS5. About 4 hrs into the flight, my ram was up to 96% and things started to get ugly. I shut everything down and my ram continued to stay hung there. The only way I could get it to come down to normal was to restart. Again I have had this issue for the past couple of weeks and have tried everything I can think of to figure it out but nothing is showing anything abnormal. The system does not crash but stutters really badly. Recently I have do…

Although I joined AVSIM some years back I have only been actively perusing the forums seriously for the last few months. I am working my way closer to retirement and am hoping to get more into flight simming. However, I also like playing Rise of Flight and Digital Combat plus games like The Elder Scrolls, Borderlands 2, World of Warcraft, Eve Online etc. I also hope to digitize the family photo collection, going back 40 years, as well as finally getting the various family video files into a more modern format. Thus my machine will not be solely for Flight Sim use but my Games Machine. I think I have finally got my family to consider buying me a GTX 680 for Christmas …

Hi All, Just trying to get a handle on what people think is the best defrag software? From what I've read the most highly regarded in no particular order seem to be O&O Defrag, PerfectDisk, Diskeeper and the free Defraggler. I'm not sure how much of a difference if any there is in the effectiveness of these different programs. What's your experience? Or do you use something different? Cheers

I currently have an i7-3820 and was wondering if the i7-3770 performs better in FSX than the i7 3820? Keep in mind that don't keep my system overclocked. Also the i7-3820 does not support officially PCI-E 3.0 and the i7-3770 does, so would the overall smoothness be better in FSX on the i7-3770 because it supports PCI-E 3.0?

  12. ... a bit longer so that the radiator could be submerged in an [ice] water bath or other superior cooling media? I'm thinking heat transfer between the radiator to water would be far superior than radiator to air and so it's temping to think about doing this. If you could extend the tubing maybe another 18" you could put the radiator into a water bath in a mini fridge as well. I emailed Corsair about a week ago on this, how to extend the tubing, and haven't gotten a reply yet. Noel

Hi guys! First time poster so excuse me if this isn't the right place to ask such a question. I have simmed on FS9 for quite a bit of time before FSX came out. My rig was too old to run FSX so I took a break from simming for a couple of years but I am dying to jump back in. I need a bit of help deciding which machine to purchase for FSX. I know how flight simulator is, and I never got super frame rates on my old machine, but I would like to get something which will let me run fsx maxed out or a close to as possible. I know that when FSX was release there were no such machines around but with Intel's new Ivy Bridge and all the new upgrades PC components have recieve…

I built a new FSX system a little while ago based on an i5 3570k which I wanted to overclock to 4.5-4.6Ghz (air cooling). I can't even get it stable at 4.4. My vCore is very high (1.365) and still not stable at 4.4. Is this normal? How far can I push the vCore before I start to cause problems? I'm getting CTDs in FSX constantly now to the point where I can barely finish a single flight. Would I be better off dropping down to 4.2-4.3 and lowering the vCore? I thought originally I might have a memory issue as it's rated 2000Mhz but wouldn't even boot at that with XMP enabled so am running the memory at 1866 Mhz. But I have run 5 passes of Memcheck86+ and…

Hi All, I have a newly built system based on an Asus P8Z77 - V Pro & i5 3570K with a Asus GTX 660 TI I had everything running on basic settings with a "Word Not Allowed" tweaked FSX. Once happy that all was stable I started to over clock. I am currently running the i5 @ 4.5GHZ with a CPU voltage of 1.275. I ran FSX for 4 hours last night and at the end checked the CPU temp which was around 34 degrees. I also put a Antec 920 water cooler in the build which is amazing. I was wondering how far can these i5 3570K actually be pushed, is it possible to hit 5 GHZ ? I am so impressed at how rock solid this thing is so far and FSX is Sweeeeeeet  The 660 …

Anyone tried one with FSX? For those who haven't heard about them, they're similar to an SSD but can't be used as a drive, they act as a cache for the boot hard drive. They come in 30/45/60GB sizes, and are not too costly, UK prices for the 60GB on amazon £56 inc post. The on-line review are impressive, especially boot-up times. But FSX is a strange beast, and what works well with modern software doesn't necessarily work well with FSX. But be nice to know if anyone's tried it?

It's time for an upgrade and I'm trying to decide between I5 3570K or the I7 3770K. The only cpu-intensive application I will run is FSX. I have read that FSX is a 32 bit application that does not utilize hyperthreading, so is there any advantage to using the 3770K? I will be using an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard and will overclock to about 4.5 ghz. I only use 1 monitor at 1920 x 1080. Any advice is appreciated. Dale

Hey guys, more or less a newbie here, just thought I'd ask some opinions: I'm trying to put together a workable FSX rig, and its now time to upgrade my cpu/mobo from a 4 year old dinosaur to something I can squeeze some better performance out of. It looks like everyone is all about the i7's but I'm really on a tight budget and the Phenom ii x4 965BE looks like a steal for 90 bucks and 3.4ghz out the box. Now, I am definitely someone who believes on 'you get what you paid for', so is there anyone who uses it and can give me some specifics on the ups and downs on getting something like this? I am currently using an Athlon 64x2 running at about 2.7ghz. On a PMDG NGX a…

  22. Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 580 with a dual core Intel 3.2ghz processor. I would like to upgrade to the best possible CPU that will work with the motherboard. Does anybody know what the best CPU is that will work? I already have a 700w supply installed and 8gb DDr3 ram. I am also running a GeForce GTX550Ti video card. 24. Hi, I am looking at replacing my three year old FSX gaming rig with something more modern. Building my own computer is out of the question, even though it will save hundreds of dollars. My pricing limit is $2800. I am going to buy the computer from IBUYPOWER, because they are a local shop near me. What sort of processor should I invest in, the i7 3930k, the i7 3770, thes i7 3960k, or the i7 3820? Also, should I only get liquid cooling for the processor, or for other parts also. So far the current specs are: I7 3930k with 20% OC Liquid cooling with triple radiator 16 GB 4 by 4 Ram Nvidia GTX 660 2gb (graphics card is not that important, right? Does the graphics …

Hi everyone, Recently, my FSX has been acting up and my stutters are awful. I have tried deleting FSX.CFG, cleaning drivers, and following Word Not Allowed's Guide. I am out of ideas. Basically, every second, the sim has a "burst" of 3 mini stutters... No matter what the settings are, aircraft, airport, etc, they still occur.
