Ok so I have a 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 as the boot drive in my main rig at the moment but I picked up a 256GB and a 512GB Samsung 830 Drive on sale to install with the smaller one being for my boot drive, the larger one for FSX and the Vertex 3 going into my other PC. I know I saw a thread on here somewhere about cloning drives but for the life of me I can't find it. Can anyone point me in the right direction of the existing thread or the best way to clone my boot drive onto the new SSD? Or will I actually be better off doing a clean install? Thanks

After months of tweaking, testing, multiple re-installs, and a hard drive crash, I've managed to get FSX to run in the low to mid 20's with almost any aircraft (Flight1 Citation Mustang still kills it) in any scenery. This performance is only on a clear day as clouds still bring the box to a crawl. That being said, the laptop is over 2 years old and is being replaced with a Lenovo W530 with the following specs: CPU Intel Core i7-3920XM (2.9GHz, 3.8GHz turbo boost) OS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Video NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory (8 times the number of shader's than my current Quadro FX880) RAM 8 GB DDR3 …

Hey guys, My FSX installation is now very great, however I'm having a small problem. When I use my USB headset I get a cracking noise periodically andf the sound freezes, i tried new drivers etc and nothing worked. I then tried my onboard sound card with speakers and the problem was completely gone....Anybody have any idea what this could be?

Sorry pleb with new machine I just bought a month ago a new system (short summary) -CPU: I7 3770k -Motherboard: ASUS Maximus V Formula (accept RAM up to 2800o/c) -RAM: 2x4gig Corsair Vengeance 2400 sticks -Full Watercooling Currently I have CPU running along at 4.6Ghz (with watercooling with awesome temps MAX just touching 70deg C. The highest 71 - mostly at 69-70) I read that memory is dependant on the CPU, meaning that if CPU is 1600 then you only need to have 1600 memory as the CPU is the limiter, meaning that even if I add 2400 sticks RAM into the memory slots then I will not see any difference. My Question: From the above and reading the CPU is n…

I'm installing one right now. It says to connect the long quick release cable to the amplifier using the banana plugs, "[+] connects to the red terminal, [-] connects to the black terminal" Makes sense, except I can't see any [+] or [-] markings on my cable? Anyone connected one up recently? Thanks Eugene

Hi all, New here at AVSIM, and I have a quick question. I'm getting a new rig for FSX (i7 Ivy Bridge 3770K 3.9Ghz, GTX 670 2GB, 16GB RAM @2133Mhz, ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe MOBO and a 2TB HDD.) and I'm wondering how much I can overclock my CPU safely with watercooling. I'm planning on getting the Antec H20 920 watercooling system for the CPU. I'm looking to get at least 30FPS at all major airports with addon scenery and MyTraffic. Is 4.8 or 5.2Ghz doable and safe? Thanks! liamp51

I've read a lot of posts in this forum but can't find many that deal with my lowly i3-2100-3.1GHz. Many non-FSX sites post benchmarks that I suspect reflect multi-core optimized apps which we know FSX is not. The FSMarks thread has so few i3 entries. If this q has been answered already, I'd appreciate a link to the post. Thanks! So... I don't have the skillz, time, money etc to take on the risks and equipment of OC'ing so I simply want to know if dropping in an i5 or i7 in place of my i3 will make much of a difference in framerate. By tweaking fsx.cfg, video settings, and game settings, it seems like I can work with my existing gfx card for now. It does seem…

I'm looking at upgrading my CPU to either the i5-2500k or the i5-3570k with the idea of overclocking, especially for fsx. My question is, which one should I choose? Which processor will give me "better" performance on fsx? I've been reading that the 2500k is marginally better than the 3570k in terms of overclocking.

Hi peeps I have been trying to find the answers myself but internet can be pretty much confusing and intimidating for a beginner like me. I know this is the right place to ask although this may have been covered for hundreds of times. I'm about to overclock my i5 25k and it is just a mild one, say 3.8 or 3.9 max. Knowing i5 25k is able to go further, way further than that, I'm more into stability and longevity. My questions are: 1. Which one is the best action in terms of lifespan, disabling Speed Step or not? 2. Will fluctuating clock speed from 1.6 when idle to 3.8 stimulate instability or even unnecessary workload? 3.at what level of overclocking …

I recently installed a 2x4GB kit of this DDR3 ram in my aging P55 motherboard: Samsung Electronics Extreme Low Voltage 30nm UDIMM 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM MV-3V4G3D/US Over at OCN and other overclocking webs sites these 8GB kits have been a sensation for weeks now. My kit cost me $35US and I can run it at 2067 (173x12) 10-10-10-28 T1 @ 1.5v with my i7 860 3.8Ghz OC. Others have reported simular timing at higher speeds on IB/SB systems. This stuff smokes my 1600 4x2GB mushkin redlines which cost me nearly 6x the price (though at 1600-1700 the redlines rule). Definately an amazing deal for the performance, plus they are super low pr…

I still can't decide on the cooling kit for my new PC. How is XSPC Chrome Raystorm AX360 Extreme vs. Corsair H100 cooling system? XSPC kit looks very enticing and solid, good installation manual, a lot of accessories, but is it really worth the investment compared to Corsair's H100? I understand the main advantage of XSPC is better quality and less noisiness at virtually the same CPU load temperatures. While H100 is almost 5 times cheaper... Have been flying FS since subLogic and ATP etc. The years have a way of adding up and having recently retired am looking at what will be my final rig. Have built them since the mid '80's so I have the steps down. Now it is a question of horses under the hood. (an old metaphor but meaningful to my age group). I intend this to be a very fine rig. I want to run FSX with every feature turned full on and every add-on I can fit on the SSD's. Going out in style. First to clear up some conceptions and misconceptions about FSX, or maybe urban legends is a better way to put it. Back in the day, the word was that FS was developed on nVidia video and that is why it works the …

So, here is a link to my current specs: http://www.binnerfam...ut/system-specs My thoughts: NEED am AM3+ MB....and no, I am not switching to Intel, sorry, I don't buy into the hype, I can tweak an AMD chip just as fast, and the NEW FAB-8 chip plant is right around the corner from my house in Malta, NY, I will buy local! Greetings. I'm really just after a bit of advice for what part of my pc I should upgrade. I know this has been asked many, many, many times before but, I have been out of the upgrade 'loop' for a while and there are so many knowledgeable people on here I thought what better place to ask? As you can see from the 'My PC' on the left, its not the most powerful rig but I thought I would treat it (and myself) to an upgrade for xmas. The only stipulation is the budget of around £100. CPU and mobo will be upgraded sometime in the new year. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year To All

I have a PC I built to be my main computer of which FSX was a main consideration. I have decided to move to a MacBook Pro Retina to be my main computer to do all my surfing, photos, music, videos, etc. As such, I am going to dedicate my PC as a flight sim and hopefully, build a general aviation cockpit. Please take a look at my signature for current details. First, I thought I would upgrade my current SSD to a 256GB. My 120GB is full. I currently run 2 of the 560TI video cards in SLI so I can use 3 monitors. NVidia now has single card solutions like the GTX 670. As a consideration, I hope to add additional monitors in my cockpit for instruments. I am not sur…
