Hello I'm looking for an experienced system builder in the Chicago area to consult with for a new FSX build using the latest state of the art components. I know there are companies like DigitalStorm and AlienWare who build these types of rigs, however, due to the issues of maintenance on liquid cooled machines, I would like my system to be built locally to alleviate the burden of back and fourth shipping when problems arise. If you build state of the art systems and are local to my area please contact me. Thank you -Paul

Hello all, I have tried looking for similar topic on this but have not had luck. So i will just go ahead and ask my question. I have been doing FlightSim for several years but have now decided to add 2 new HDDs to my new system and reinstall everything from scratch. I have a Samsung 830 128gb SSD and a Western Digital Velociraptor 500GB HDD. I want to use only these two on my system now but what I want to know is this: Is it a good idea to put OS and FSX on the SSD and than use the Velociraptor for REX, GEX, FSDT, and all addons from aircraft to textures? let me know what you guys think. Thank you,

SanDick 125GB SSD shows only 509mb in Windows Exlporer. Sandra analysis tool shows 111GB available which is probably correct. Thus the question why does Windows show only a very small portion if the available storage? I wrote a small file to the SSD and it showed in Windows Exlplorer ok. I assume that there is no special software needed in Windows 7 Home Premium. Also using SATA3 port.

I feel like I’m beating a dead horse by asking this question, but getting feedback from an expert FSX community would definitely make up my mind rather than my non-FSX friends. I have a Radeon 6870 that I was planning to put into my build and after reading various guides and forum postings it looks like I should not have purchased it. The price of Nvidia 580s and 680s are currently out of my reach. I could save up for it in however I don’t know if it will be worth it. That’s why I turn to your help. Basically I want to complete PMDG 737-NGX tutorial 2 landing without having lag with/without REX. Is that possible? I feel like if I can do that my computer will handle just a…

I've been using a nice new computer for the last few days, with good hardware, and have been quite enjoying it. I decided to overclock the processor from 3.4 GHz to 4.0 GHz but couldn't. I hit F12, and came to a blank blue screen with GIGABYTE's logo at the top. So, I let it boot normally, and then inserted the GIGABYTE Utility DVD and clicked on "System". It had all the lines filled out except for BIOS version, which was blank. Huh? Something's not right; either it's wrong, or my computer's doing the impossible. Any which way, I need help. Thanks,

Hey there, I was wondering if anybody could help me. I've been without a PC since July when my computer died of some sort of horrible motherboard related ailment. It wasn't particularly great but I could run FSX with numerous addons at around 20fps on average. The addons I used included PMDG 737 NGX, REX, MyTraffic etc. Anyhow, I've not been able to afford anything decent since then and using the web on my phone plus a total lack of FSX time has really started to bug me. I'll have around £1000 spend (give or take) in a couple of weeks time and the only thing on my shopping list is a replacement. Initially I looked at pcspecialist.co.uk as my previous computer …

Following the same theme as best A/C and Top Regrets threads. Figured I'd start one for the Hardware forum. What have been your best two purchases for your increased simming pleasure? Mine are: - Revodrive- took my FSX loads from 4+ minutes to sub 30 seconds. -Three 24inch ACER monitors (NVSurround)- Negated my need for TrackIR. Runner UP -ButtKicker- What's not to say its immersive and makes for a great massage.

I sure hope this is a rumor...... Just shows how Intel is beginning to cater to the average joe who wants their computer fully built/functional without having to lift a finger... Also is really starting to show in our society as a whole. Link

My current system is: AMD Phenom xII 945 Quad Core 3.0 Ghz Foxconn H-RS780-uATX Mobo ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 8GB DDR3 I've had an OK with experience with FSX so far. I REALLY like using my CaptainSIM B767 but it just absolutely murders my system and I average about 17 FPS in the virtual cockpit. What should my next step be? I've looked at upgrading the CPU to something that is 4.0Ghz+ but not sure how much that would help my situation. Maybe it's time to upgrade to an NVidia card that is $150+.. would like some honest opinions about where I should be in terms of my experience and what I should be targeting as far as a hardware upgrade. Please hold off on the I…

Guys, I live in a "dusty" house, and my computer get full of dust pretty quick. I leave the one side of my computer case open for good air cooling but she get's full of dust quick. Do you think dust sitting on my GPU and Mobo would adversly affect performance? Cheers!

So I've decided I'd like to build my first PC - I'm currently using an ASUS Laptop which I love. But I need more performance for FSX and all the video editing I do. I was or should I say I am still thinking about the option of getting a pre-built PC from one of these companies online because I'm scared of messing it up - on the other hand I think it'd be a good and fun learning experience building one myself. My main questions are about the CPU, Motherboard & Graphics Card. I know Intel released the Ivy Processors this year; how are they with FSX compared to the Sandy Bridge? I'd likely look at overclocking it so I understand I'd need a better cooling fan for the …

Hi all, looking for your help in deciding whether this upgrade will benefit FSX over what I am running now. I have numerous add-on's, including PMDG 737NGX, Aerosoft sceneries etc, all hard on the system! I average anywhere between 7 to 25 frames when locked to 25. Take a look at what I have now and what I'm looking to change in the hope of overclocking and gaining some performance increase. This system is just about 2 years old. I can only get my current system to overclock to 3.85Ghz max before it becomes unstable. Also, would the current memory suffice? Any reasonable suggestions of bits to change gladly received. Let's say my budget is not too restricted, wit…

OK, I am waiting fro someone to say yes, of course you can. But I have learnt through experience that the obvious is not always so obvious. So, if I have two Goflight TP-8 switch panels, can I use them both easily enough using the Goflight driver software. Cheers guys...

Hi All Having recently got a new set up, I wanted to overclock it. Unfortunately I'm an absolute beginner at this never having attempted it before. I've read the guides on here and elsehwere on the interweb (probably read far too many "guides"!!) and got thoroughly confused. Anyway I think I've got a stable OC @ 4.5 with a core voltage of 1.184. Currently running a stress test with AIDA64 (2 hours and counting) with max temps hitting around 70c. My question is should I try and go further and should I just be changing the multiplier and core voltage and leaving everything else alone? My specs are in the sig and the system's water cooled although I'm not sure how go…

Apologize if this has already been debated upon. I am experimenting with Affinity mask for more than 4 cores , and this is being done on a 960t unlocked to a hex @3.8 GHz with an Affinity Mask of 62 and what I have noticed is that, it does exactly what the affinity mask has been assigned as I can see FSX using the last 5 cores instead of six , the first core has been left out for the OS and stuff I guess. So for a quad it should go to 64 I guess. The above test was done in NL2000 with FTX Cessna 152 and I am not using any other add ons. And to my knowledge NL2000 is a bit heavy , so I am getting a starting FPS of 30 (locked in FSX) and low to 17 (throttle) but an…

Hi guys, recently I bought a new cpu and mother board for my computer. I bought a amd FX-8320 processer. 3.5-4.0 ghz and 8 cores. I have 6gigs of ram and a 1tb harddrive. My video card is an amd hd6700 which I have ran many games on including fs9 with rex and many other hardcore addons included on it with like 90 fps. Its that time of year again where your old joystick (4 Year old Logitech Attack 3) is dropping to bits and you need a new one. This time I want to go all out and try something new, thats why Im looking at the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke with Throttle quadrant and rudder pedals. What is your feedback on this set, and is it worth the money? Regards, Ciaran.

I had a CTD just at the end of a long flight and among other things checked my temps. 90C!! I'm thinking I have a problem with my H-100 as none of the hoses is hot or even warm to the touch and when I start Prime 95 I don't hear the fan kicking in. The LED's on top show ok, and I'm idle temps of about 36C. How can I troubleshoot the H-100? Any other ideas? EDIT: I popped the cover and cleaned the rad as best I could with a light brush as I don't have any compressed air at the moment. It was pretty dirty but is a lot better now. Didn't make any difference, and I'm still not hearing the fan kick in and the hoses are not getting warm.

RIght now I have FSX and FS9 installed together with Windows 7 64 on a Velociraptor 300GB. I consider getting an Samsung SSD 830 series but I am not sure what setup would be the best from a FSX and FS9 point of view. I have SATA 6GB connectors on my P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 mobo. Should I 1) get a Samsung SSD 830 256 GB and install the OS and the sim there or 2) the OS on the SSD (then a Samsung SSD 830 128 GB would suffice) and the sims on the 150 GB velociraptor. Or should it be the SSD for sim and the VR for OS? I've tried to read as much as I can but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on this. I notice Word Not Allowed opted for 2 , is that because you hade the V…
