Hello there, I have just finished building my new rig a couple of weeks ago using intel 3930K which is 6 cores HT processor. I read somewhere that using 4 cores with no HT and overlocking it to 4.5Mhz like 2500k or 2600k is much better than using any top nodge 6 cores processor for FSX. That means using 2500k or 2600k is better than using 3930K for FSX performance (assuming they are overclocked to 4.5mhz) is this true? I haven't used FSX in 4-5 years since XP days and am now just getting back into it with Windows 7 - 64bit on a i5-3570k. As I really want to learn the roles of different settings and tweaks I am holding on an expensive Graphics card and instead running a IGB Nvidia GTX 650 which seems to give me good frame rates at stock settings. I am not running any scenery add-on's yet. The standard Nvidia driver includes the control panel. I am confused about "NVidia Inspector." I understand this is an aftermarket application? If so, and I download it, does it automatically override the Nvidia Control Panel settings or is there a configuration to set so the card is driven by inspe…

  7. Hello world!! I currently fly with FSX, with a 4.5 year old PC, for example my cpu is a E8400 @ 3 ghz, stock speed, which I tried to overclock to 4 ghz, but it wouldn't stay there, and would revert itself to 3 ghz. I know I could have gone less farther, like 3.5, or 3.7, but I got kinda tired of testing and testing, so I am keeping the cpu at stock speed for now. In the next few months, I am thinking about building myself a new PC, with a 3rd gen I7, like the 3770, or a Sandy like the 2700, and overclocking with liquid cooling instead of air cooling. As of today, what is a very good cooling solution on the market for liquid cooling and what case would that requir…

I'm wondering if I want to OC this (now old) motherboard, if I should use the "AI Tuner" software on the CD provided with the board, or actually go into the BIOS and do it there (more manual and not accessible from the OS I assume, but maybe more stable?). Thanks, Bruce.

  9. Hi all you FSX Pilots This is a topic that is very rarely talked about. Defraging your C: drive. What happens when each time you turn on your computer to do any thing the data is wrote back to the hard drive and finds the easiest and fastest way to write back to the drive. Think of it as a stream of water, when it flows it will flow in it's least resistant path. Same goes for data; it will be wrote back to the hard drive the same way. After uninstalling and reinstalling and writing back to to the hard drive data becomes " defrangmented" meaning scattered all over the drive and as this goes on the system starts to slow down. With FSX this is constantly going on because…

Hi, I currently have an ASUS P8P67 deluxe and I would like to upgrade my Graphic card from a Nvidia N480gtx 2MB with a N680 or N670 2 MB. My MOBO has 2 PCI express 2.0, do I need to go with a MOBO equiped with PCI express 3.0. Would this give me a significant increase in performance, or I should keep my current MOBO. Thanks for any advice Pierre

I ask since I have had to return two SSD drives within a fairly short timeperiod. One failed after about a year and the other within months. The firmware was upgraded on both of them. It was OCZ drives. This makes me wonder if SSD drives are more prone to fail compared to a mechanical drive ? Logic on the other hand says that it should be the other way around. No moving mechanic would make them more reliable. But that is not quite what I experience. Anyone else have experienced failing SSD that needs to be replaced ? Are some brands of SSD better than others ?

This 2700k CPU are really awesome! I found this about new maximum safe Vcore for everyday use: http://forums.guru3d...ad.php?t=353463 quote: "According to a well known computer hardware retailer, who were also the original source of the previous max safe vcore for sandybridge chips of 1.38v, technical documents from Intel state a max vcore of 1.425v is absolutely safe and the retailer now recommends a max 24/7 vcore of upto 1.45v. However, according to them, this only applies to i7-2600k and i7-2700k chips as they have not upgraded i5-2500k chips from their previous figure of 1.38v max safe vcore voltage." Hello, I would like to add/upgrade my ram. I have an Alienware (yes I know, slap myself) Aurora R2, i5-655k, HD5870, 6GB (4 banks, 2 of 2) DDR3 PC3-10600 1333 MHZ CasLat 9. The physical config(?) is Dimm0 & 2 contain; 2GB SamSung p/n M378B5673FH0-CH9, Dimm1 & 3 contain; 1GB Kingston p/n KTW149-ELD. I assume that the banks (4) are physical slots and my max memory potential would be 16GB? I am unsure what "2 of 2" means. Does this mean each pair of bank /slots can be 4GB modules (matched set)?. Any clarifications would be hepful. Thank you, Dennis

  20. Hey guys, I recently overclocked my i7 950 processor from 3.02 to 4.02 and I don't see any performance increase in FSX. The frame rates are the same, etc. I have 3 1600 DDR3 memories without overclocking and a 1GB Nvidia 560Ti card. What could I be missing that FSX is not responding correctly to my overclock? I still get 13-15fps on the ground. ASRock board Intel i7 950 OC at 4.0GHz 6GB DDR3 1600 Memory 300GB hard drive 1GB Nvidia 560Ti Please let me know. Regards, Teo

Hi, I am kinda new to this forum so I apologize if I am putting this post the wrong place. I am about to build my own pc soon but the only thing that I haven't decided on ye is my CPU. I am building this computer for gaming and specially flight simulator X. I want to be able to run my FSX very smooth with great FPS and I have tons of addons to install on it. I am also willing to overclock my cpu and have a great graphics card (amd radeon 6950 2GB). So I was wondering if anyone can help me decide which CPU is better for fsx. i7 3770k that is ivy bridge, or 2700k that is sandy bridge? Any help wold be appreciated best regards to everyone!

So my FSX is really stable at 3.9 Ghz, and I think it can probably handle going higher. My frames with the NGX at Flytampa tampa rebooted with AI traffic is around 24 frames. So, question is, Will Overclocking from 3.9 Ghz to 4.2 Ghz really make that much difference? In terms of boosting frames?

Upon returning home from our annual summer vacation I discovered we had a catastrophic lightning strike that essentially fried all of the electronics in our home. This included the LED/LCD televisions, the computers and associated electronics in our year old appliances and all of our computers connected to power (regardless of surge protection) or connected to our in wall data/video distribution system. Insurance covered the big stuff but left us with a huge deductible (the insurance company said there were two storms and since we couldn't prove that all of the electronics were toasted in one storm, they charged us two deductibles!) The bright spot in our tale of woe …
