I built my system about 2 days ago, and I just got around to overclocking it, knowing the 3770K's penchant for getting real hot real quick, I took it slow. I auto-overclocked to about 4.6GHz using Asus's Mobo software, all stable, all good, but I noticed my temps were hovering around the 40s, so I decided to push a little further. I managed to get to about 4.8GHz, and 67-70C on all cores, with the processor at 100% usage while stress testing.. Is this normal, because from what I hear, my temps should be around 80C? I'm cooling with a Corsair H100, only 2 fans, stock TIM. What do you guys think of my voltages? 1.376V-1.4V I'm running a 105BCLK, and a 46x multiplier.…

Hello everyone! I'm going off to college this fall. Hard to believe, really. I joined this forum when I was in 8th grade! Anyway, I'm dual-booting Windows 8 on a MacBook Pro that I'm taking with me to college so I can run FSX. So basically, it's on its own Windows partition and I don't plan to use Windows otherwise. Most of my time will probably be spent on Mac OS X for academic purposes. It is an Early 2011 15" MacBook Pro. Specs are: 2.0 GHz i7 quad-core, 4 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz RAM (that I will expand to 8 GB before classes begin), a 500 GB 5400 RPM HD (that I hope to upgrade to an SSD sometime soon), and, what I'm really worried about is the GPU. It has two …

  3. Hi all, Just getting ready to pick up my new rig...It has a i-7 3770K 3.5GHZ out of the box. I wanted to OC it but have never done this before, even with all the systems I have personally built over the years, this is new territory for me. Is there a software module of sorts in the bios that comes with the processor that will make things easier? I do not want to reach for the stars.... I want to get it up to around 4.5GHZ safely. I do have a Corsair H80 water cooling system that I had installed. Any suggestions to lead me in the right direction? I also assume to turn off hyperthreading, it's in the bios? The MB is a Asrock Z77 Pro4. I just don't want to fry anything. The…

  4. Hi, Tomorrow I will buy a new computer. I need to choose a new CPU, motherboard, and VGA. Computer will be used only for FSX flight simulation. No other games, except perhaps Prepar3D or X-Plane 10 in a future. I've decided for a i7 2700K, due a better overclocking temperatures and an Z77 motherboard. I've read a lot about motherboards info but I need to decide today wich moterboard I'll buy. Candidates: ASUS (I'm a happy Asus user) Sabertooth Z77 Maximus V Gene P8Z77-V Pro Perhaps some Gigabytes: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H Asrock perhaps is a good choice, but I not have confidence with this brand. Hi all. I'm right in the middle of trying to tweak FSX to run fairly smoothly (only a new convert to the application). I've tried most of techniques on this forum I think (Word Not Allowed, Venetubo, NickN) and they have helped but I haven't been able to get a smooth flight yet. Before I continue I thought I'd get the advice of you good people on my hardware setup to see if it's worthwhile pursuing tweaking further or if I have hardware limitations. To start with I will say that my PC isn't an FSX dedicated machine, I run it for other games and non-gaming things as well as FSX, so I am after a compromise of performance and usability for other things. So my PC is a…

New build critique please. First, a big thanks to Word Not Allowed!! Helped me tremendously with this project. I plan to O/C in the 4.3-4.5 area. Also plan on Windows 7 on the SSD...I have probably gone overboard on my SDD selection. I also use FSGenesis Mesh, UTX, GTX, and the usual add-ons, Level-D, and PMDG. May add REX, not sure. Comments appreciated both good and bad. http://secure.newegg...Number=20249225 Thanks in Advance Dave

Hello all... I currently have my 3570k overclocked to 4.6ghz with the Easy Tune program that came with my Gigabyte Ud5h. While running fsx on max settings on everything I get a max temp of 74c. My question is "Is this temperature Ok?" Everything is stable and I idle at about 30c. Thanks Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Greetings, I hope I posted in the right place ! I am considering a BIOS update on my XFX 790i Ultra. I have a new chip flashed with the latest BIOS and the tool to pull the chip out. I want to change my CMOS battery anyway so an ideal time to do both. Heres the problem, I have Win 7, 64 bit Home edition installed and it is a OEM version which I understand it permanently links to the board. If I go ahead with my BIOS upgrade, am I going to have headaches getting the OS re licenced as I suspect the OS will see my upgrade as a new board or computer ? Would appreciate any advice on a workaround for this. Thanks, Buster.

Hey guys, I had ordered a 128gb SSD for a laptop that I was planning on buying from newegg, but I ended up not buying, and and I was stuck with the SSD, so I decided to install it into my computer. I used Ben's tutorial for moving FSX and making a link folder to the SSD file of FSX. It was going well, until I decided to take it for a flight in KLAS using Aerosoft's Las Vegas. I got the Duke Turbine up and running, and right when I was taking off, FSX suddenly stopped. It wasn't responding to anything I did, alt-tab, alt-f4, nothing. I decided to hard restart it and see what the problem was. When I got back into Windows, windows froze about 5 seconds in. It too wasn't …

I am considering pushing my 3820 past 4.3ghz. My question is, is it worth the hassle? I heard people get these things to a very stable 4.5-4.75, and even higher. Could someone give an honest opinion as to whether or not the performance gains in FSX are worth the hassle of messing with bclk's and voltages, or is going that high just for bragging rights? It's not like I'm not satisfied the way it is, but if I can get to some new plateau of performance by taking it this high, I will.

  13. Okay, so today, Friday, I decided to go play a computer game. After about 30 minutes in game, my entire computer froze. I couldn't move my mouse, and the game's audio was replaced by that annoying buzzing sound (related to audio) that means "you're screwed". So, I pressed the reset button on my computer. After passing the BIOS, I saw a blue screen telling me that a recent hardware change might have caused a problem. I thought "What the hell? I didn't change anything to my computer. As a matter of fact, 2 days before, I cleaned my computer in the inside" (It was full of dust) I didn't press anything, and the computer automatically restarted, but nothing was showing on the …

On my trip to MicroCenter to purchase several SSD drive's I thought I need more 6G Sata ports after talking with the salesman. He recommened th P8Z77-V Deluxe as it had 4 of them and 4 3G ports. When I got back home and looked I realized I already had the 4 6G ports on my old MB. Question now is should I make the change or drive back the 100 miles to return the new board? Thanks Rick S.

Hi, I'm about to buy a new computer almost fully dedicated to FSX. After days of searching, I come out with this configuration: - Thermaltake Level 10 GTS Mid Tower Not a lot to say about the tower. I picked up this one because it can fit a big radiator and a big graphic card and it's well ventilated to allow overclocking and I even have the option to fit a water-cooling system. - Cooler Master 625W V2.3 Extreme 2 Not sure if this PSU is powerful enough... - 8GB Kit (2x4GB) DDR3 Kingston HyperX KIT BLUE 1600 - Intel Core i5-3570K AS you can imagine, the goal is to overclock it. I heard that FSX cannot use the hyperthreading, that's why I didn't choose a I7 CPU. -…

I've been looking at peoples PC specs on this forum and noticed a lot of people have OC'd CPU's so I thought this would be a good place to ask. Ok so my first question is this: -Can I achieve a stable overclock of anywhere between 4.0 to 4.5ghz on the following hardware? (Im not interested in pushing it any higher incase of damage) MOB: Asus 1155 P8P67 Evo CPU: Intel Core i7 2600k PSU: OCZ 550w GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6950 RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Case: CiT Vantage w/ 4 Fans…

I am ready to make the jump to SSD's. I currently run my OS on a 250Gb HDD and my programs including FSX on a 2nd 500Gb HDD. I am upgrading to an ASUS P8z77-V Deluxe and adding 2 256GB Crucial M4 SSD's and 1 512GB Crucial M4 SSD. I believe I will put the OS on one of the 256Gb SSD's, all programs except FSX on the other 256Gb and then put FSX and it's supporting programs and files on the 500Gb SSD. I do have a 1T HDD for data, downloads and temp files. Does this sound correct? My MB has 2 Marvel 6Gb Serial ATA connectors and 2 Intel 6Gb Serial ATA connectors along with 4 Sata3g connectors. I am considering purchasing a PC from Digital Storm (to be used for both general purposes and FSX) and would appreciate any advice / comments regarding the following related to overclocking. Two options are provided by DS to overclock a 3770K processor - Level 1 @ 4.0 - 4.4ghz and Level 2 @ 4.5 - 4.8ghz. The difference cost wise between the two levels is only $20 - so not an issue. From my research on the forum it appears that the 3770K generates significant heat when overclocked. Would a level 1 overclock with this processor be sufficient to run FSX really well or would a Level 2 overclock be necessary (assume Level 1 would generate less heat than Level 2)? Al…

Hi guys, Just after some advice. As crazy as it might sound, I am thinking about maybe buying a new PC just for FSX, (and other games too). Firstly, my current PC spec is: i7-930 @ 2.80GHz Asus P6T SE motherboard 8GB RAM ATI Radeon 5870 128 SSD I bought the above around 2 and half years ago. Anyway, I know that FSX is CPU intense, and I am just getting back into FSX after some being away for some time. I love the look of some of the add-ons that have come out and would love to use them, (PMDG 738NGX, Rex, etc..). I have Ultimate Terrarin and a few of the Mega Airport addon's already, and it just runs poorly on my existing system. So I have b…

Hi, After many FSX installs, finally the inevitable in upon me. My 160GB intel x25 SSD has reached capacity and will be upgraded to a 240GB intel 520 series SSD (+ ASUS GTX680-DC20-2GD5 Upgrade). I intend selling the 160GB (+ replaced GTX480 w custom zalman twin fan cooling solution) not too long after.
