Hi guys, I just received my computer back from an upgrade, I bought a new MB so I could use both of my videocards since my old MB had only one slot and also bought a new CPU cooler so I can overclock it, so my system is as following: Intel Core i7 2600k 3.40 (OC'd to 5.15 currently) GTX 590 and GTX 580 8GB DDR RAM Asus P8Z77-V the thing is, when I configured my system, I had only the GF580, everyone was speaking of the 590 and how great that card is, so I spend 800euros into the 590, but had to remove the 580, since I had only one slot, after receiving my computer with the new MB, cooler and both GFX cards running together I tested FSX, surprisingly, I didn't …

I have finally decided to bite the bullet and build a new computer. My i3-M was never going to give me what I needed. I was thinking about starting with the i5 3570K. Nothing special with the motherboard and just about 8GBs of RAM. Where I run into trouble with deciding is with the Graphics Card. I don't need anything like the 680, but was looking at Nvidia 500 series. Specifically, the 550. Can anyone give me some advice on the GC?

  3. I posted this question over at Simforums, but my longtime hardware guru, Nick Needham, is between builds and tells me he can't offer an opinion. The question is - will there be new Ivy Bridge-compatible motherboards available in the near future that offer significant benefits over currently available ones like this one? I'd originally planned to wait and build a new system around the next wave of IB chips and the next generation of NVidia cards (700 series, or whatever they'll be called). However, for totally non-tech reasons, I'm considering donating my current rig to a friend who's dealing with some personal hardships (family illnesses and such) and would like …

  7. I'm about to make a hardware RAID0 of two 500GB 7200rpm HDD's. I've read that RAID0 is not a good solution for FSX, but there are little to non info to back that statement up. I mean, if I already have the RAID, should I still put FSX on a single drive?

I have been searching all over the internet for the proper new hardware for FSX. I have a general idea on what to get; however it seems like EVERYONE tells me something different. Oh, i'm getting a i7, "Oh, no, get a i5". Then I turn around, Im getting an i5, "No get an i7". I am lost. I also have price taken into consideration. I would like to keep it no more than $1,000. I have searched hundreds of deals, sites, everywhere you could think of. Everywhere I go, there seems to be a "better" option that I bring up that everyone says is a crappy deal and I could do better. Well, WHAT is better? I never know what to buy because I know there is some other place where I can get…

Hello All, I am currently running an i7 920 (2.6Ghz) overclocked to 4.0 Ghz and an EVGA GTX 285 FTW Graphics adapter. It runs well in the air but the Aerosoft airports with Ultimate Traffic 2 and Active Sky 2012 choke her back to around 10 fps. I am about to upgrade to an i7 2700K or 3770K overclocked to 4.8-5.0 Ghz and a GTX 680 2GB. Can anybody please estimate the perfomance gain this will give me? Is it worth the $1200 Australian? Secondly, the more I read regarding Sandy Bridge V Ivy Bridge, the more confused I get. So many posts seem to refute and contradict each other. Does the Ivy B really overheat at 4.8-5.0 GHz? Has anybody out there successfully overcloc…

Hi guys, I currently have an nVidia 560 card, driving both my monitors. Thing is, i need a third screen output for a hardware FMC. What should i look out for when installing a second graphics card? Can someone please let me know if my spare 460 GTX fit my motherboard? Asus P8Z77-V . This second card wont be used for anything intensive at all - just to display a small 2D panel at a low size. I know the 460 isnt the same as my 'main' card, but i dont need SLI or anything like that. Also, will a second card cause problems in FSX? Any other caveats that could bite me down the line? Thanks guys, i appreciate your help. EDIT - Looking at my curren…

Hi, I know that there´s a lot of debate around this issue on the internet, but no clear answers. But, I´m going to build a new rig, mainly for FSX/FS9. I will use an SSD for the OS and another SSD for FSX. So I would like to hear about you Simmers experience; What mode you install the HD´s in? Is there any gain in installing the SSD for FSX in AHCI rather than IDE? I also plan to use my current "old" 1 TB HD (7200 rpm IDE-mode) for storage and other programs than MSFS. Would this be able to run in AHCI mode? Other than that, I will follow Word Not Allowed´s excellent guide. Best Regards, Anders

Brief synopsis of my issues: I've got a WNDR4000 (Netgear N750 dual band router). Bought it 4 months ago. 3 months ago my wired and wireless started to become intermittent. RMA'ed the Netgear and picked up a Linksys E2500 for temporary use. It worked great. Received the "new" Netgear just a few days ago and installed it. Wired connection appears normal but out of the blue the wireless connection is extremely spotty, mostly in our kitchen where before it wasn't the strongest, but was completely usable. I'm terrible with networking... so I've got no clue what could be wrong. I've read that microwaves (as in microwave ovens) are on the 2.4 GHz band along with…

As the title says, I'm starting a clean build with a budget of $1500 US. The only things I will not be purchasing is a case and a monitor, I'd like to leave it to the experts in the FS forums to give me a list of hardware componets to fit in this window. I'm looking at an i7 3770k and an ASUS Maximus V Formula Z77 but other than that have no idea what else to get. If you guys have any ideas to fill up the rest I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone.

Had the week from hell so far. I got a second hand motherboard for my Phenom 955BE as my old mobo had a cracked sata plug. I put the cpu into the new mobo and all fans would spin but no mouse, keyboard or monitor would turn on I reverted to y old mobo and the problem persisted. After troubleshooting i realised my old cpu has probably died. So i went and got (o my wife's dismay) an intel i5 3570 with 8G of ddr 3 ram and an asus P8H77 mobo. Went home, put it together and now the fans spin once and it will not boot up!! I am thinking i got a dud mobo, any other thoughts?? The psu is a VANtEC ultra quiet i520w

Hi I'm upgrading my motherboard. When I initially built my computer I got the H67 by mistake so can't overclock my i5. Now im looking at this.. ASUS P8Z68-M Pro LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS I just want to be absolutely sure that this is able to be overclocked. Also. What are your opinions on the GTX560? I've seen some things that say they are far better then the AMD Radeon 6450 I have now. Is this so? Do they perform well with fsx? I dont want to spend to much right now and this is a good price. Thanks lee Sent using Tapatalk
