  1. Just for the record when it comes to PC Hardware I'm kind of an idiot so lets just get that out of the way. About a year ago my last computer took a dump and I had to rush and order a new one, so I had one custom made from Cyberpower. I would love to just build my own but I know that would not end well so I just go with this method. Anyways I didn't build it for FSX but after having put FS9 away probably 5 years ago I recently picked up FSX again. And for the most part I have no problems with everything on max. Problem is when flying over (I use all orbx stuff) the KSEA area I always got lower frames and when landing at KBVS. It was livable, annoying, but I could…

I am trying to understand the ASUS Power dig thingi This is what I read here http://www.overclock...-uefi-oc-guides "CPU Voltage: There are two ways to control CPU core voltage; Offset Mode and Manual Mode. Manual mode assigns a static level of voltage for the processor. Offset Mode allows the processor to request voltage according to loading conditions and operating frequency. Offset mode is preferred for 24/7 systems as it allows the processor to lower its voltage during idle conditions, thus saving a small amount of power and reducing unnecessary heat. The caveat of Offset Mode is that the full load voltage the processor will request under load is impos…

Hi I just got my new i52500K, my motherboard doesnt support overclocking as I was on a tight budget, will do in future investment though. At stock clockspeed, using Prime95 and Core Temp 1.0, the idle temp is ranging from 36-42C. During load, the max is 72. Is it too hot? My previous AMD setup was running 29-31C idle and 55-59C load. is it normal? I live in a 2 season country, the ambient varies from 27-33C. I have checked how I mounted the Processor, nothing is wrong I guess. Im using stock cooler as I haven't overclocked it. Also, sometimes the temp readings on Core Temp jumps to 98C (it has flashing yellow alert) but only occurs less than 2 seconds then back to…

  4. Hi. My PSU is moribund. So I'm getting a new better model one from corsair. It won't change my purchase but I'm interested to know, will a new and better PSU make any difference to how FSX runs on my computer? or will it just power my computer in a more efficient way without making a difference to the smoothness or frame rate of FSX. Thanks Steve.

Hi all. I appreciate that you may be sick of giving advice for new PC builds, but please bear with me. This could well be my final complete new build, due to increasing the size of my family, so I would like to get it right. The build needs to be able to last a few years at least, and run the following sims at high or above graphics, min of 30 fps and at a res of 5670 x 1080. ( I love my multi monitors ) DCS series FSX with weather and airport addons, And of course the PMDG 737NGX and PMDG 747 Rise of Flight Now I've asked the same question over at DCS and it sounds like this spec will work there, but then again the pc I have now, runs that fine. It's just F…

Ok so i was doing some work to my comp. I had my phenom ii 965BE overclocked to 3.8 stable. Well my son was running around and bumped the tower and somehow the cpu came loose and now has a crack in it. The comp will still boot to windows but blue screens each time. Temps are wild. I need to buy a new cpu but cant decide on what to get. I know the intel is better but i am sticking with amd as i am already set up for it. So what cpu should i go with? I would like to OC and get into the 4GHz range. My system specs should be in my sig. Thanks in advance.

Well if you did, check out the new Mars 3 which is still a fair way off but in development. It has a reported 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM with two fully fledged GTX 680s. I am a bit slow to see the news but I am sure it's still news to some.

  8. Hi there, I'm planning a new rig for pretty soon to get much better performance for FSX. So here is the hardware I chose : CPU : Core i5-3570k (as far as I understood HT is not really doing much for FSX, and it overclocks quite well) Memory : 8GB of GSKILL 1600Mhz SSD : Crucial M4 128GB (for FSX) Graphic Card : GeForce GTX 680 (I know it wont do so much in FSX perf but I'm still playing other games and I want a rig that will last a few years sio I rather invest than change every year) Cooler : I've thought of a Cooler Master 212 Evo So the main question that is still a bit bothering is the mother board choice, that would be a card which is not to difficu…

I just read here http://ark.intel.com...Cache-3_30-GHz) It says the i3 uses DDR3 1066/1333. Whereas I have GSKILL 4GB 1600. Does it mean my RAM is not compatible? I am in between i5 2400 or i3 2120. Thanks

  10. Hi My computer is now about 4 years old and I desperately need to upgrade it, unfortunately money is very tight at the moment and it will have to wait. I currently have a Intel Extreme QX9650 CPU running at 3.0 GHz with 4 GB Ram, P5N-D mobo, Win 7 x64. When flying the PMDG 737NGX in bad weather (AS2012) and near a large 3rd party airfields like Heathrow or Gatwick (UK2000) and all sliders approx half to two thirds. I struggle to get 12 - 14 FPS and not very smooth. I have tried various tweaks from this forum and NickN, but feel my problem is the CPU speed and age (not a shiny new i7). Can anyone tell me if overclocking my QX9650 from 3.0 to 3.6 GHz would gi…

I started getting issue with my 9800GT I can be flying cruise and level. have good frame rates around 20 to 30 and when I least expect it I would get a freeze on my Sim my screen goes black for a about 3 seconds and then all of a sudden it comes back. On my taskbar I'll get the icon with the exclamation arrow. Saying "the display driver nvlddmkm has failed but recovered successfully. I have tried everything. Different settings on The Sim itself but nothing changes it does not make sense to me its not like the Sim its struggling to run it runs pretty well. In terms of nvidia inspector I have everything set up to not demand much. This might be related. On FSX …

Hey, Now before you go one about how I should read the guide, I have. At the moment I run the bufferpools with a reject threshold instead of not using them at all because the artifacts without them are absolutely shocking. So currently I have the RT at about 150,000 and my GPU only ever peaks at 99 for small amounts of time (1 for about 10 minutes) and the rest its at around 90. It used to work at around 95,000 very well but then i increased the CPU clock to 4.7 again and it just got worse. So do I need to keep raising the RT? Thanks,

  14. I am getting the Corsair H60 water cooler, and am wondering if anyone else has bought this whether the heat exchanger (that mounts into the CPU) has thermal paste already applied? Any issues I need to be aware of when I install this cooler? The on-line video made by Corsair shows the install being done in 8 minutes and very simple- but no mention of thermal paste being applied..... Thanks, Bruce.

  17. Hi, I have a rig I built back in 2009. It has been on a deployment with me to Iraq (did not want to go a year with no FSX) and I think its time to replace some things. I replaced the motherboard about 2 months ago because the old one bit the dust. A few months before this I had to replace the GPU. Got one free from a friend. I have never OC before and I am thinking it is about time. I would take it to someone but where I am stationed I cant find anyone that can do it. So trying to decide if I should replace the CPU I have now and then OC or use the 965 I have. I have a lot of add on's for my FSX and want more performance. Based on my PC Specs where should I go, what shoul…

Hey there, I was hoping for some general advice in terms of upgrading my PC for use with FSX. My current desktop is a custom build with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.17GHZ/3.17GHZ processor, GeForce 9800GTX graphics card, 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 64bit. The computer has no problem running current video games on ultra settings, but in recent weeks I've experienced problems with FSX. A few weeks ago I had to do a reinstall (which all went perfectly), before which I ran it with all of the WOAI packages and PMDG 737NGX as the only significant addons and it ran smoothly all the time. However, during the reinstall a friend of mine suggested that I should invest and replace WOAI…

I just finished something and got some spare $ for upgrading my system. I have spent days to read some reviews and benchmarks. For $237, I can get 1. Intel i3 2120 3.3 Ghz + Asrock p67 Pro3 SE B3 intel Yes I am warned i3 is not overclock-friendly CPU. or- 2. I can get a cheap H61-H67 Mobo and get myself an i5 2400. (which impossible to OC with the Mobo's) or 3. Intel i3 2120 + Asrock H61 and get 8GB G Skill (Im currently using 4gb) (hope that more RAM will compensate the overclock limitation) I'm a stubborn FS9er, but longing to try FSX with medium or slightly high setting (?) please give me some advices. So, I've got an HP tower, just about a year and a half old, and I've got an AMD Anthlon II x2 at 3.1 ghz (stock), with an AM3 socket (not the AM3+ socket), 2 4gb sticks of RAM and 2 2GB sticks for 12GB total (originally 5GB stock), along with an AMD 6770 1GB graphics card (had no card stock), and a 550W power supply. I was wanting to get a processor upgrade, and I'm pretty sure my best option is an AMD Phenom II processor, either the x4 960T, or an x6 model. I've got 225$, and I'm using my computer for FSX, what should I get? Thanks! Piper

I've been out of the hardware game for a long time. Looking to buy an i7 2600K + some Z68 mobo + few sticks of RAM + 5X0 GTX card. This looks like what most of you peeps are using anyway. I'm starting with an arbitrary budget of USD 800 (flexible). What would be the best combo with the most fluid FSX experience at this price point? PS: Will be using it for - PMDG 737NGX, REX, GE Pro (or is it X), and a few airport addons. Cheers, Keith
