Finally decided to upgrade my current system, an i7 950 overclocked to 3.9ghz on an Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard. I ordered an i5 3570k with an Asus Maximus V Gene motherboard, and a Corsair H100 liquid cooler system. Also bought a Corsair 600t case to fit the H100. I debated for a long time between the 3770k or the 3570k but the benchmarks indicate that the i5 is just about the same as the i7 when it comes to gaming, which is pretty much the only thing I will be doing with this PC. Plus, if I decide later on I can always put an i7 CPU in. Can't wait! Should be a pretty healthy upgrade over my first gen i7, and the case will be a VERY nice upgrade from my curren…

Hi folks, As the title suggests, im going to be starting a new build soon, http://www.overclock...rodid=GX-148-EA http://www.overclock...rodid=CP-404-IN whats the difference between this and the 2700k - in terms of overcloakability http://www.overclock...rodid=MB-061-AK http://www.overclock...rodid=HS-011-NC http://www.overclock...rodid=MY-017-SA And windows 7 64 Now i have a few questions: Seeing as fsx is highly intensive on cpu, - why do we spend twice as much on the gpu as we would on a cpu? Ive picked a z77 board as ive read a few problems with z68 boards, cant remember what the main issue was. Ive picked the s…

As Ivy Bridge's new memory controller can now handle RAM with very fast speeds, I was wondering what any of the hardware guru's think of it's importance. I have seen some threads where users have seen 4-5fps improvements with ultrafast RAM. As I am currently running 1866 mhz, and Newegg has some 2400 mhz kits available for prices that aren't outrageous, would this be a worthwhile upgrade? I'd also be interested in the general discussion on whether or not this is important to FSX. Any opinions or theories?

My 8g of Mushkin (2x4) RAM has 6-8-6-24 timings at 1600Mhz. I just changed the command rate from 2T to 1T and ran a few tests for the past couple of days and all seems very well. As far as objective analysis goes, what is the common performance measurement difference between the two? Anyone know? Kind regards,

I got lot of good input online last night from various people from here on Digital Themepark Teamspeak server. [Thanks for that]That lead to me ordering my new system for FSX and X=Plane (and may be Prepare3D later) and my first build. Unfortunately Newegg voided the order last night after-hours because the cell phone number they have didn't match the home number the credit card company had (UGH)....I usually pay with PayPal on Newegg, but wanted this one on a credit card.....resubmitted first thing this AM and 4.5 hours and 2 calls to Newegg and they still haven;t verified the order despite paying their "Rush Order Fee". The only thing I changed really was I took out…

Ok, I've just built a new system for FSX. 2700K, P8Z77-V MB Gskill Ram 2133 @ 1.65V GTX 580 Superclocked W7 Pro 64Bit. Now I'm confused about the ram I'm running? In the Asus book it says intel only recommends 1.5v ram. However I seen a lot of people are running 1.65v ram and some 1.50v. Will running 1.65v ram shorten the life of the 2700K cpu? If so what would you guys recommend as far as 1.50v ram brand and timings. Also running H100 push/pull config and temps only idle@low 30's and load mid 50's o/c to 4.4..Seems I can't get any higher o/c than 4.4. Would like to go to at least 4.6 to 4.8? Any help would be appreceiated. Can I change the stock 1.65v on ram to 1.50…

First time posting in the hardware forum. Hoping some of the hardware gurus can take a look at the results below and offer feedback. I am getting some power interrupts when using graphic intensive programs. I installed Hardware Monitor. Here are the numbers during intensive activity. Anything out of the ordinary here?

Hi all, If anyone else out there has an Antec Kuhler 920, and finds the fans both noisy and inefficient, I heartily recommend you go and buy yourself a couple of Akasa Apache S-Blade 120mm to replace the stock fans on the Antec. Previously, when the fans ramped up to full stretch, they sounded like Marty McFlys DeLorean. I had to set them up so they had a serious ramp profile and would only come on full when the liquid was pushing 45deg. Now, I run them at full speed all the time, and a night of Prime95 full blend FFT's and my highest temp (using RealTemp GT 3.70) was 76deg..previously I had to stop the testing after about 10 minutes as I was so close to TJmax…

Hi All, Haven't posted here much yet but am wondering if I can get some expert advice on this so I don't blow a heap of money for no reason (kind of hoping NickN will chime in here). Here are my specs: Intel Core i7 3930K @ 4.6 GHz 16GB Corsair Vengeance Quad Channel @ 1600 MHz, 9-9-9-24-1T 1.5V Windows 7 Professional 64bit EVGA GTX 580 with Forceware 301.24 Beta (have to use this driver for Word Not Allowed's brilliant vSync setting) ASUS P9X79 Mobo I am from New Zealand and hence am inclined to fly around NZ. I had finally managed to get to a point where I had performance in FSX I was satisfied with. I had a few local scenery addons and the VLC package w…

Running i7 950 @ 3.4 with 6gig 1333 RAM and GTX 470. I have clocked at 3.8 but left at 3.4. Should I upgrade RAM to 1600 to hit 4ghz as 1333 is at limits when at 3.8ghz. Cost of RAM is £30 + postage. -or- Should I upgrade Mobo/CPU/RAM to i5 2500K? Cost approx £380. Or even i7 2700k? If performance is worth it. Would the cost be worth it or should I just OC the 950 and wait for a while. If the performance improvement will only be slight then I am not forking out nearly £400. This is purely for FSX as I have several previous PC builds for my games etc.

Well, I'm ready to upgrade my computer and operating system. I'm sick of FSX lag with only medium high settings in semi remote areas lol. I'm looking to use my current hard drive (wipe it clean, though), PSU (at 1040 watts it should be enough), case, and RAM (8gb of DDR3). So, basically, I need a new motherboard, video card(s), processor, and operating system on a budget of $1225.00 Suggestions? PS: I have no brand preferences, but I'm pretty set on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Current inside - from the top of the video card up.

I'm about to build a new Sandy Bridge based FSX rig and when it comes to RAM I'm not quite sure how much RAM FSX actually will make use of? Up until now I've been running with 6 GB and never had any memory related problems so with this new rig I was thinking I'll go with 8 GB (2 x 4)RAM but considering how "cheap" RAM is these days I figured maybe I shouldn't hold back but instead get 16 GB (4 x 4). What do you guys say?

Just built a new system wondering if I should exchange the RAM for something better. The system is a 2700K at 4.8 on a P8Z68. Ram is 2x4GB of GSkill 12800 / 1600 Cas 9-9-9-24 2t 1.5v was all they had at the time. Tried to run it at 8-8-8-24 with no luck. Now they have some Dominators 2x4GB 1600 8-8-8-24 1.5v, Or I could order some GSkill 1600 7-8-8-24 or other higher speed. Would appreaciate any suggestion / comments...

Hey gang, I plan on doing a new build later on in the year. Rather than waiting and getting everything all at once, with the sticker shock, I thought I might start ordering some components in the meantime to gradually acquire all I would need for my new build. I will be coming from an X58 chipset system, with an I7 920 processor running at 4 ghz. From all I have read, it sounds like the verdict is still out on the newer Ivey Bridge chips. So, I am thinking I maybe should plan on going ahead with a Sandy Bridge build at first, get a motherboard that supports both it and the newer Ivey Bridge, in case I want to update to it down the road. I believe if I underst…
