Hey guys, just a quick question, i bought a cooler master HAF x case along with an XSPC 750 RX360 cooling kit for a new pc im building, however the reservoir takes up 2 slots at the front and the radiator completely blocks the use of one slot and partially blocks the last slot, so i was wondering if i can put a DVD drive in one of the 2 hot swap bays, would it work? Im asking because i havent bought the DVD drive yet because if it cant work ill probably have to buy an external one or something.

As I have just upgraded my CPU to 960T BE from an Athlon x3 445 on an Asus M4A78lt-m LE and have OC'ed it to 4.0 Ghz @1.44v using multi 20x and NB is @2600 @1.3v and everything is on AUTO. The problem I face at times is during POST it says "Overclocking failure / overvoltage failure " so I just continue by pressing F1, note I have done an Intel Burn test and also a Prime test and both are stable. sometimes during flying I get BSOD dump and then reboot, and sometimes even a volt of @1.44v is not good enough for 4.0 Ghz and have also tried it with 1.5 and 1.55v. A few things come to my mind either it is the HSF or the mobo, it could also be the PSU but this PSU is …

Hi guys, I wonder if pushing my cpu to 4.8 or 4.9 GHz is worth to make fsx run smoother or get better fps?? My system specs in my signature, temperature is not an issue, under full prime95 stress test it hovers the 70C mark.

There are some really nice photos of some of your setups in this forum. Ever since my second computer I've been struggling with trying to keep the inside clean (my first was not an issue, a VIC-20 w/ 5K RAM, LOL). I've lived in various areas of the U.S. and have always had an issue with dust build-up. The area I live in now is especially dry and dusty which I think will make things better and worse; low humidity makes it much more dusty; yet better because the lack of humidity makes it much less sticky. The case I'm using for my new build includes one filtered intake fan in the front. I can see this filter being removed permanently as it will become choked with dust ve…

Hello everyone,I decided earlier today that I was going to finally pull the trigger on a new GPU. I have been chugging along with my cruddy GTS450 for the past 6 months and I finally was sick and tired of the bad performance. So, I went to my local PC hardware store and shelled the $$ for a single GTX580.The main reason I didn't go for the 680 was the fact that it has a smaller mem.interface(important for FSX) and few users have tested it in FSX. The GTX580 has proven to be a very stable card for FSX and the beast will eat anything that you can throw at it. I have to say that the image quality with 8XSQ AA is just amazing.Coming from my GTS450, the jump in FSX was around …

Hi, all. The rig shown in my sig is fairly new - just got it 6 weeks ago. I know that certain components are not optimal (cost vs performance) for FSX, but it was built to support the 3D geologic modelling my work calls for. That aside, it runs FSX pretty well, too :-)I downloaded CoreTemp, and much to my surprise, while running FSX, the T-J temps were at 90-91 degrees centigrade. This CPU is listed at allowing for a T-J maximum temp of 91. These readings were the same whether I remained overclocked at 4.3Ghz, or throttled it back to an overclock of 4.0Ghz.So the question is this - am I running too hot? Or is current high-end PC design intentionally running things a…

My system would lock up after several minutes in FSX. Not knowing why I just reset my BIOS to defaults. Has overclocked CPU by2%. To better understand what might be going on I ran SpeedFan vV4.6. It had a chart of temperatures over time that showed the "AUX" temperature was at 125C. Idle temperature is 18C. The GPU and both Cores are also on the chartas are the hard drives and the System temperatures. Thus I have no idea what the "AUX" temperature is?? Case is a Cooler Master with three 230mm fans and one 140mm fan. Zalman copper fin CPU cooler. DualCore 8400 3ghz, 8gb memoer, 240gt 512 video 700w suply

I decided I could not afford a new computer completely, but for a alot less, I can get a newer graphic card and CPU for my current system. I replaced my AGP Saphirre radeon X1950 Pro to a HIS Radeon HD4670 which has 1gig of DDR3 memory and a faster clock speed compated to the X1950 with has only 512MB of DDR3 memory and a slower clock speed. Then I replaced my 2ghz dual core CPU with a 3.06ghz dual core CPU when I did that I notice that the BIOS did not detect the curreny CPU, so I went here to see what BIOS update would be needed. http://www.asrock.co...al-SATA2&o=BIOS and installed the windows flash version 2.10 which indicatates a CPU code update …

Hello everyone,Well after several weeks trying to educate myself sufficiently to be able to tentatively decide on the components of a new FS computer, I am now submitting for comment what I've come up with. First though, let me list what the proposed specifications do not cover.Already purchased:Case - Corsair Obsidian series 650DPower Supply - Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850Video Card - EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified Ultra 3072 MBAnd here's the hardware I already have:TH2GO, 3 identical Dell Ultrasharp 21.5 inches, TrackIR, Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, CH Yoke, CH Throttle and CH Pedals, and Saitek X52. So i built a computer with an AMD phenom II X4 980 black edition (really good CPU for the price). So i have heard that when you buy a black edition it is a guarantee that you will over clock the CPU. Here is were i run into a problem i can not overclock the AMD CPU, i have overclocked an Intel and that worked fine. well it sort off isn't a problem because i think i found the problem. The problem is that i have a Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz, it is brand new. Before i had OCZ dd3 MHz 4 times 2GB. I bought the corsair to see if i could over clock and get a stable over clock. So i Over clocked the AMD CPU at 4.01 GHz with the DRAM at 1333 and i got it stable for about 4 ho…

Alright guys. I've spent...a lot of time getting a nice, all around stable system for some NGX flying.I bought the NGX when it was released, but my i5 750 system wasn't really giving me satisfying performance. So I built a new system, using the excuse that one of my DIMM slots were going bad anyway...much to my bank account's dismay. After months of trying to get into a rhythm with this new build, I've finally grown frustrated enough to feel hopeless. Here's the system I'm running now:ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z/Gen3Core i5 2500k @ 4.70 GHz (H80 Cooler) 12 Hours Stable Custom Blend8GB of G.Skill 1600 MHz DDR3 RAMWD Caviar Black 750GB SATA III 6GB/sEVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB @ 800 M…

Hello All -First and foremost, I have been out of the PC upgrading/repair world for quite some time. I've become more of a Network Engineer with IP routing, Transport, etc. So forgive me if I seem "newbie" to PC hardware :)FSX has had its ups and downs on my PC. I think I've concluded that UT2 is a major contributor to the frame rate drop when approaching larger Airports. I've modified the FSX.cfg (based on the Bojote's Tweaking/Tuning tool) which helped GREATLY. I mainly fly the PMDG 737NGX along with RCv4, ASE, FSCrew and GSX.Any suggestions on what to upgrade without breaking the wallet? I've heard/read SSD's are the way to go, but I can see that being a pain whe…

My PC SPECS are at the bottem of this page in the signature area. Looking at those specs what would you say would make my FSX expereince a lot better.... more CPU, RAM or GPU I cant get much above moderate scenery settings and when I go to fly a PMDG type panel it is a bit of a slide show. I am not comfortable overclocking.ThanksRandy

Hi,Could anyone suggests vendors/companies in US (especially in Northern Virginia/DC Metro area) that provides overclocking services for the existing (newly assembled) hardware?. I spoke with Microcenter support and they said that prefer not to deal with OC, since they don't want to be potentially responsible for any damage done to hardware. May I presume that these days OC is 100% task of the end-user or not?ThanksDmitriy

Hello all, been doin a lot of searhin in the internet for the last few weeks. I think this community understands a lot better how the FSX runs compatibly with certain setups than any other non fsx related hardware sites.I'm planning to get i5 2500K and install 8GB RAM DDR3 in my setup to run FSX. But I will keep my 9800GT 1GB. Will my 9800GT bottleneck the outcome? I don't long for too much eye candy, I just need to get proper FPS. I'll splash for GPU later on. Toms Hardware suggests that FSX needs good CPU whilst GPU has little effect on the FPS although it will give us the best graphic looks. And what motherboard that supports i5 efficiently? something that less than $130…

Hi all,Could anyone tell me more smoother is you simulation experience going from i7-900 to SandyBridge? Preferably with similar clock speed. High frame rate does not equal more fluid, smooth experience. I am waiting for IvyBridge for an expected jump of 50%+ in CPU power from my current i7-950 system (SandyBridge = 25% faster than i7-900, and then Ivy being 25% faster than Sandy), but unless we have a Ivy system, I am not sure if it will improve "smoothness"?Thanks

Hey everybody, After many months of trying to figure out on my own what kind of computer I should get for FSX (as my current one is starting to really showing its age occasionally now), I realized that a computer scrub such as myself should probably just go for an out-of-the-box system and not build my own. I know that building one is better as it is cheaper but I am wondering if you guys could make some suggestions on what the best out-of-the-box computer is on the market for FSX. I know that the ideal processor, according to many, is the Sandy bridge (either 2500K or 2600K)... and that's about all I know...Any suggestions for places to start or systems to buy? Obviously…

Hi All,I'm just thinking of a processor upgrade. Made necessary by having very low (5-15!) FPS in the UK around London and UK2000 airports.Only realised that my CPU seems to be a bit of a bottleneck by an experiment with overclocking - Never had over clocked before and decided to give it a try tonight - I was incredibly surprised. Using UK2000 East Midlands I got between a 5 and 10 FPS increase by overclocking from 3.4GHz to 3.8GHz!!! However when setting up a little flight in the NGX an old friend who I hadn't seen in a while paid me a visit.... Mr BSOD!So I've been looking. First off. I'm an AMD man and have never been able to be persuaded otherwise - Plus my entire sys…

I have several noob questions regarding the "how-to"s of over-clocking and tweaking my system for FSX, but I'll spare you all from most of them as I'm sure you've already discussed them many times. I do however, need a timely answer to a (probably) basic issue before my return-period expires. I'm sure I can track down the remaining info needed (if I can manage to avoid being side-tracked by the wealth of interesting reading here). I'm starting to build a new system but I think I may have bought the wrong memory (still un-opened, from Newegg). It's been several years since I've built a box so I'm a little rusty, especially in regards to memory selection, compatibility a…

Hi, I currenly changed my cpu from aIntel Dual Core E2180 2.0ghz to a E6600 Wolfdale 3.06ghz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor. First thing i notice is the BIOS says its a 12. something ghz...WOW, thats really fast, so I know thats not true. I also notice that my FS9 has less frames rates than my 2ghz CPU. I have an older mobo which is a ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 Mobo. Does it need a BOIS update for this? I should be getting better performance.Need some advise here, or if someone can show me step by step what I need to do.Thanks,BillHere is the CPUFromhttp://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116052Tohttp://www.newegg.co...ntent-_-text-_-Here is my mobohttp://www.asrock.co...4cored…

A few days ago I purchased an i7 3930k with an Asus P9X79 Pro motherboarrd. Now FSX is stuttering more often than before the upgrade and the pauses last sometimes like for 2 seconds whereas before they lasted for no longer than 1 second. The 2-second hitching happened when taxing at LAX for example and quite frequently I might add. I found out about a tweak about setting UserPools to 0 and that got rid of the stuttering but I think it caused a BSOD with a fart-like sound and my PC rebooted. This is with no addon scenery and using the default Cessna 172. Can setting UserPools to 0 cause my PC to BSOD and reboot on me while playing FSX or do I have a defective CPU? Stre…
