HiI have recently upgraded my system to a Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard and now i have it running, not all that well i must add, i thought i would try and access the BIOS to look at over clocking, the problem i have encountered is that when windows starts to boot i press the del key but all i get on the screen is a heading saying gigabyte bios but below that, it is blank, what i expected to see was a 3d image of my mother board where i believe i could access certain features to change the settings. I have looked for clues in the manual but nothing, all it says is press the dell key and the picture they display in the manual is a 3d image of the motherboard, all i have is …

Can't really decide.I've read probably hundreds of posts on various sites. And I don't care about power usage. My current monitor is eating about 100W, so HP is going to be an advantage with it's 90W.I'm maybe considering also the ZR2440W due to LED, but not quite sure about that. 6bit panel with FRC vs 8bit panel. Also 2440 has some problems with backlighting... bright corners when darker pictures... Reviews say its good... in the end, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference, but who knows?I was thinking of ordering 3 monitors, testing out and keeping the one that I like the most. Amazon would hate me for that...What I care about:- quality- color and brightnes…

I am currently using a Lynnfield i5 for FSX overclocked to 4.0Ghz and am considering moving to a Sandy Bridge i5 to improve FSX performance, especially in heavy airport areas and/or in heavy weather where performance can take a dive.As you guys know, the Lynnfield version is manufactured at 45nm, has a total L2 of 1MB, and an L3 of 8MB.The Sandy Bridge version is manufactured at 32nm, has a total L2 of 1MB, and an L3 of only 6MB.The only advantage of the Sandy Bridge is the 32nm manufacturing, so it had be overclocked to between 4.5Ghz to 5Ghz. Assuming the most unlikely overclock to 5Ghz, we are only talking a 20% increase in CPU speed (and we have to factor in 2MB less …

Hey guys,In a few months I'm going away from home for three months and of course I can't take my big 'ol iMac with me, nor do I want to bring mij macbook pro. Even though it's 3 years old now, it still cost me a fortune; I'd rather lose a 400 Euro netbook than my zillion Euro Macbook Pro. So, I'm looking for a netbook.I've been reading reviews, but honestly I can't really get a good picture of what a good one is. So far the Asus 12.1" Eee 1215B seems like a nice choice, but I'm sure there would are other good ones. Anybody who can help me? The eventual goal is to try and get FS2004 running on it. I'm not going for scenery add ons besides perhaps basic stuff, like GEX, REX…

Hi guys.I am thinking of making some kind of upgrade to my FSX rig, but need some advise. My specs:ASUS P8P67-MI7 2600K (running 103x39 - 41 resulting in max performance just below 4.2 ghz)Nvidia GTX280 1GB GPU4gb (2x2) Hynix RAM @ 1333HDD 750GN SATA 3G @7200 RPMI am using the ASUS AI software to overclock, but have started to investigate on how to OC CPU, as other people seems to get way more out of their CPUs than I do. I found out that I need to set the Dram timing, but unfortunately there are not stated on my RAM, so in order to OC, I will need new RAM and also a better cooler is definately needed, when running Prime95 I quickly get temperatures in excess of 85 degrees…

I am getting random bsods but thats not the problem exactly. When it restarts it can't find my boot drive which is my ssd. When I go into the bios on restart(not shutdown), I believe it doesn't see the ssd either (I checked once but I can't remember). But when I shut down the computer and reboot the ssd is there but is now in the number 3 slot for boot order. I believe I am getting the bsods because the computer is forgetting that a drive exists on that port. The only cause I can think of is that we had a power surge like 2 weeks ago that took out most of the electronics in our washing machine and maybe the surge caused some damage to the motherboard. What do you guys th…

I am still researching 'stuff' for my new sim build and have decided to stick with a single monitor rather than go down the road of multiple displays. I have been considering for some time a Dell Ultrasharp 30" display but have been listening with interest to guys around here regrading a 32-37" LCD. My dilemma is that while I would love a 37" LCD monitor I can't help thinking that the quality will simply not be up to scratch when compared to my 24" HP which, to be frank, is superb. Can someone please offer some comfort before I spend a load of dosh and discover that the picture simply doesn't do it for me. The issue I have is that I fail to see how I cannot be anything ot…

HiI have recently upgraded my system with a new MBO which is a X79-UD3, an Intel Core i7 3930K (3.20) and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3. With the motherboard came the usual software which included easy tune 6. This morning i tried to overclock my processor to 4.2 (which was one of the pre-set options) but after restarting windows, as i was instructed to do, then started FSX at my usual airport but all of a sudden my PC crashed and rebooted. Have i done something wrong here. Is easy tune 6 a safe and reliable way to over clock my CPU. Cheers Shaun

HelloI recently replace my motherboard ASUS P8z68-V LX so that I can get better FPS. It runs at 15 FPS (cockpit) up to 25 AVG (outside) at idle in airport addon such as Miami Int'l. I did overclock it to 4.3 GHZ but when I look at the CPU Frequency it doesnt stay at 4.3 GHZ consistently.I kept the GTX 470 Nvidia from my previous set up, but I know FSX is more CPU hungry than GPU that why I didnt bother to get the 500 series. In any case, do you think I am getting the right FPS or do you think I should have a higher FPS? I did use all the tweaking needed for the FSX.CFG plus the FPS Limiter.Any suggestion would be appreciated, thanksDavid G.

Guys,I´m just upon chnaging my 4 GB RAM for 8 GB, I thought I stay with the same product line cause they worked soild as expected. But I´ve noticed that Mushkin doesn´t sell any Blackline 8 GB packages or induvidual 4 GB modules with FrostByte cooling which are 1600 MHz and a latency setting of 7-9-7-24. They´ve only 8-8-8-24 or 8-9-8-24. Does this matter or reduce the performance based on my currenty setting?

am looking to purchase a new laptop for college, I'm hoping to run FSX smoothly on it. My budget is anything up to about $800 so i'm not looking to run FSX at 40fps or anything. But if I could run at 20 fps while on the ground i'll be happy. I have narrowed it down to two different options but I'd be more than happy to accept any more suggestions. Hey gang,Just a quick question - I have always run my overclocked system with hyperthreading enabled. I have seen some posts in the past, that gave an indication that perhaps performance in FSX was improved somewhat, with hyperthreading disabled? So just curious, what do most folks here do, run with it enabled or disabled?

My CPU was OC by the factory to 4.0 Ghtz. I think i can get more. They set the bus speed at 133 Ghtz with a multiplier of 30. From Youtube, I see many people go with a higher bus speed and a lower multiplier like 28 with a bus speed of 166. I don't know the advantage of 1 vs the other.I really don't know much about computers, but can I raise the bus speed here to say 150 with a 30 multiplier. I have the Asus Rampage II extreme board and the the 990X cpu. I have a liquid cooled maching. It seems I am running at 38 deg C and with FSX running the temps don't see to climb much. The factory was relluctant to go any higher saying it was unstable - but I suspect they we…

Hi, I did a similar thread in the Monitor/GPU forum but as I know there are so many competent individuals on this forum I thought I'd make the thread here, I hope thats okay with the moderators.I have 2 questions:1. After having some initial problems with my RAM ive reinstalled FSX and am now in the process of applying tweaks. I've followed NickN's guide on nvidia inspector settings and also used bojotes fsx.cfg tweak (with some changes).Tweaks used:RejectThreshold=131072Highmemfix=1Texture_bandwidth_mult=40Texture_max_load=4096ForceVsyncfullscreen=1-||- windowed=0The rest is per the bojote tweak for a HT off 4.3ghz + CPU etc, but with affinitymask disabled.Frames in FSX …

Hi. This topic might be better put in the CTD section but as it also has to do with hardware i thought i'd post it here. If moderators want to move it, by all means :)I bought some new Ram from g.skill (8GB 2133 /9-11-10-28) after having low-on-memory issues with my earlier 4GB mushkin 1600CL6 and feeling a bit "ripped off" by the Corsair 2000Mhz CL9 only running 1866 and not 2133 which i had hoped.Right after the switch I had problems starting another game but that was easily fixed by reinstalling the client for it. After starting FSX I got a APPCRASH fatal error when opening the free flight section. The 3D screen of the default plane immediately freezes when opening tha…

It's tax season and my mother wants a new computer. I offered to build her a computer because I am nice like that ;) She wants something fast but not expensive. She also doesn't want cheap parts in terms of quality.CPU:Intel 2405SMOBO: ASUS P8H67-V or ASUS P8Z68-M ProPSU Seasonic SS-460FLRAMSome well know brand 4gb at 1333Storage: some small ssd ( to 120gb)My main concerns are the power supply and the motherboard. I think she will be fine with the integrated graphics chip which is why I am looking at the H67 and Z68 chipset. She also might be getting my set of ram and I will get a new set of ram.I would love to hear your guys suggestions.

Forgive me for posting here, it's just I wouldn't exactly know where else to post a post like this...So my PC is here! Specs are i5 2500k, GTX 560 ti (EVGA SC'ed I believe), p67 mobo, 8gig ram, I'm a VERY excited lad!But before I go about starting FSX and reinstalling all of my addons that I have, I need some advice on how to get the best out of the PC and ofc FSX too. Currently, I was going to use Bojote's automatic .cfg tweaker, NickN's setup guide http://www.simforums.com/forums/setting-up-fsx-and-how-to-tune-it_topic29041.html and install Nvidia Inspector.I could do with some help with Nvidia Inspector as I don't have a clue as to which settings would be best for my s…
