I was telling a coworker today that I've been getting more OOM's especially in Orbx land. He recommended turning off the page file (I think.. or something to do with the PF).Wouldn't this be a bad idea? Also, does anyone have any recommendations to stop OOM's other than turning down settings?

I just upgraded my MoBo and CPU per my signature so I could overclock. After reviewing OC expectations and weighing +/- of performance vs lifecycle I opted for a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO air cooler. Out of the box with one "push" fan I got Prime95 blended temperatures (RealTemp GT 3.64) of 75-80C while OC'd to 4.7GHz (103X46, Vcore=1.425). The system was stable for 12 hours with min Tj = 28C and max Tj = 82C. I've been told that idle temps in the 50s and loaded temps in the 80s are good to go with the 2600K.My personal experience with temp regulation is "the lower the better". I know the 2600K chip is less prone to high temperature clock and voltage transients but the …

I have been pleased as punch with this rig. I just cannot hurt it. The only thing I feel I am "missing" is a pair of 7990s but I am convinced my wife will divorce me if I do that. My board and CPU are PCIe 3.0 compliant (I think). Well then i would also likely need a nuclear power plant to run them... Maybe I can sell the unlocked 6950s... Become a nuclear power... Sell my soul for a pair of 7990s... Nah...Anyway I have about 16GB of RAM just sitting there "looking" pretty while FSX is running from what my performance manager tells me and I was wondering what benefit I might derive from making it a RAM Disk and installing an FSX component on it. Will anything benefi…

Before purchasing my brand new Intel i5-2500K LGA 1155 just delivered, and currently running OCZ HPC Reaper DDR2 8500 1066MHz memory in my present rig which has served me well, last year I purchased some more OCZ memory before they decided to finally pull out of the memory business. So, I purchased 8Gb OCZ HPC Reaper DDR3 12800 1600MHz RAM rated at 1.65v. However,as I want to marry this RAM with an Asus P8PB67 motherboard, I'm a bit concerned with what I have read elsewhere that maybe that 1.65v would be a tad too much for the i5-2500K as I could possibly fry it, which I clearly do not want to do.Any advice or reassurances will be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys, this time I have a rather non FS related hardware problem but let me explain the whole thing:This evening a good friend of mine phoned me and asked whether he could come arround tomorrow for playing a bit of C&C and some other things via LAN. I had been aware that I had one old PC standing arround here (Pentium 4 2,8 GHz and an Gigabyte 81845GVN-RZ mobo) so I thought I could exchange these parts with my old system´s things (C2Q Q8300; P5QLD PRO) to have a nice rig to play on. I´d installed the chipset drivers on the system prior to the exchange (At least it seemed so). Now, after more that 3 hours of work, I have the problem that the BIOS give me the warning th…

Hi all,They're talking over at the Prepar3D.com forum under the hardware topic about making sure the hardware acceleration is "ON". Does anyone know if this is only available on GPUs other than NVIDIA since my "change settings" button in properties is not allowing me access to enter this option and select on. (button is blanked out)Next question is: what is hardware acceleration ? I'm looking into the problem where my FPS halve when using multi screen (3) with Prepar3D. I had no major impact with FSX and multi screen. This is only in high graphic areas like on the RWY at LAX (FSDT) and UT2 AI at the gates using PrePar3D.thanxIM22600KGTX590

Ok, my old topic was dead.I got my TI5 on the mail this Wednesday and I'd like to know what I have to do to set it up. I downloaded the software as said in the quick guide, and it looks very cool! I set up my camera thing on the left side of my monitor (lining up with my Pro Clip on my headset) however whenever I look down (in the NGX, for example) the sensor will stop picking me up. Is there any settings I can change or something I can do? My monitor is pretty tall and my chair isn't really the highest either... But, it does line up with my desk.I'm also looking to overclock... So that too.Thanks.

Not that great of an article, but thought I would post anyways.http://lenzfire.com/...g-review-87206/Some of the things don't make much sense like RAM speed etc. Their sample got to 4.8 ghz, but supposed to be 10% quicker clock for clock; but that 10% may loose some of that in high oc's, but future samples may yield better oc ability than this sample. Most are aware of this already. Not sure what is ment by the CPU got hot and single threaded and double threaded applications and different ghz levels..

I am installing Win7 and FSX on an OCZ 120 Gb SSD and would like to know if I should move pagefile.sys to another drive (WD Black 1Tb). The default page file size is about 8Gb which is how much RAM there is in the system.I have already moved FSX and the performance is amazingly better. Will moving Win7 have enough of an impact to warrant the change to the SSD?Thanks for your help--

Hi all, I'm new to this forum so please forgive me for any mistakes i make :DAnyways, I would like to order a custom built computer from a supplier from eBay. As i have little experience in terms of computer components graphics cards etc. I would very much appreciated it if any of you chaps could help me out in determining the right components for my PC.I will be looking at running and using FSX most of the time along with add on packages like orbx and PMDG and a bit of FPS games like BF3 or COD. Here are the specs of the computer as well as it's upgradable parts: -Intel Core i7 2600k Quad Core CPU 3.4GHZ, 8MB Cache, Socket LGA 1155 -Intel Original Cooling Fan with Hea…

Running i7 950 @ stock 3.07 with XMS 1333 CL7 RAM (7-7-7-20).I can overclock to 3.8 but can't hit 4 or above due to the speed of the RAM and also as my cooler cost me £20 so not expecting to hit high speeds. Is it worth replacing the RAM with XMS 1600 CL9 and a Corsair H70 water cooler or should I do a complete upgrade to Sandy/Ivy.I can get the RAM and cooler for around £90. If the performance difference between a full upgrade for around £500 and a small upgrade for £90 is negligible then I would rather save my money.Any advice please? Purely for FSX nothing else.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227755Anyone tried this out? Seems like a good alternative instead of spending it on a 120 GB SSD which will run out of space.Seem similar in idea to the seagate hybrid ssd/hd but its more of a software implementation (it only works in Windows 7). Would this work well with FSX?

Ok guys, help appreciated pleeese. I have an older PC which has now become available, it's about 5 years old, an AMD 64 3.4Ghz machine with a Nvidia GT9600 GPU. It actually runs surprisingly well, but it has been replaced with an i7950 OC machine for my office and photoshop work. So... I am slowly moving towards three monitors and a new sim pit, not at the moment though due to finances. However, with the amount of reserach I have done, it appears it could be considerably inexpensive to buy a couple of used 17" lcd's and run the instruments on them. Am I right in thinking this will alleviate extra pressure on the CPU from the main FSX machine? Is this a good idea? If so, c…

After I did a bit of research into FSX scaling per clock and posted it here, people said that it may have been bad because of my RAM speed. so this is my RAM:http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12493And I want to get better speeds out of it. Currently it is at 1600 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V. I am kind of aiming for 8-8-8-24, maybe even tighter than that, but I have seen around places that 1.65V which I would need is unsafe for a 1.5V kit on SB. Is it? Are there any other changes that I will have to make in my BIOS in order to get some better results from the RAM?Thanks in advance,

Do some of you people here play other games besides Flight Simulator on your PC? Reason why I ask is because I can imagine that if a person has so much hardware specifically for Flight Simulator like rudder pedals, yokes, throttles, swtich panels, and insturment panels, I can imagine it being a hassle to move that stuff of the way if they want to play another game on that same PC. Do some of you just do the rest of your gaming on consoles because of this reason or do some of you have a Flight Simulator rig and a 2nd rig for general gaming that you do the rest of your gaming on, or do some of you don't care for other games besides Flight Simulator?

I'm going to a Sandy Bridge setup and am needing some new RAM.I figure 8gb makes the most sense with the current prices being so low. So what matters more? Should I go for 1600 with really low timings and latency or go for 1866 or higher with higher timings?

Hi folks,I`m currently in the process of building my 2nd i72600k build. Sold my other one for a profit to a family member who is to lazy to build there own rig.I will be using the Noctua NH-D14 which ships with Noctua`s own thermal paste.Has anyone on here used the paste that ships with it and is it any good. Or is it worth me spending a bit extra on Arctic Silver or one of the more expensive pastes on the market?I know quite a few of you are running the Noctua from looking at your sigs. Thanks in advance for any advice. Also please note I`m not asking what is the best out there as there are a few topics on this, I just want know if the Noctua paste is any good :)Doogie
