So last week I got my HP DV6T and the AMD Card failed so I got a refund. After all that I thought maybe I should get a Desktop as I need power to a certain extent. My main reason for not getting a desktop in the first place was due to myself going to Flight School next year to do my ATPL etc I wont be able to take it and wont really have time for a Computer but I thought maybe I should just get or build my own then just get a Macbook or something for Flight School.I looked at some of HP's Desktops and like the looks but I hear the mother boards aren't that good? Also what would be the cheapest option? My budget lets just say $1000.I need it for Video Editing and I'd like …

Stephen, 1.4v might push my temps too high but I will try. I'm running a CoolMaster Hyper 212 Plus but really wanted something bigger but my case won't accommodate it. The ram should be 1.65v as you note but I had problems with passing MemTest (the BIOS only let's me go to 1.64v). However I did have it set to this when running 190x2.1 (3.99Ghz) for 1540Mhz with no problem. I've also read about increasing the QPI\Vtt but this just seems to push the temps up also. I have it set to BIOS default right now. I'm thinking that my temps should max below 80C but perhaps I can safely go higher? This is all finger biting stuff for me :)Cheers and have a good Christmas.

I am considering the BP=0 tweak to get my frame rates up in FSX. I currently have a Lynnfield Intel (LGA 1156) i5 overclocked to 4.0Ghz. My understanding that with the BP=0 tweak, you must have a graphics card that has at least 1Gb of memory and is fast enough to handle all of the information that they CPU can send to it or that it will cause crashes. Would a GeForce GTX 570 (1280MB of memory) be fast enough to handle the data coming from my i5? I currently have a Nvidia 275 with less than 1Gb of memory. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to educate me this topic. Maybe it will be of help to someone else, too. Thanks in advance!RH

PCI-SIG has announced PCIe 4 at 16 Giga Transfers/Sec, 2x the BW of PCIe 3 and 4x the BW of PCIe 2. THe PCIe 4 spec is expected to be finalized in 2014-2015.The press release also mentions that to date "approximately 24 billion lanes of PCIe have shipped in the marketplace since its introduction", which is a rather stunning statistic. The hardware future bodes well for FSX!Cheers,- jahman.

Hello folks,I'm considering upgrading my current machine and wanted to get your opinions on whether or not the upgrade is worth it. Some background, the machine is just a general purpose machine that I also happen to use FS9 on. Don't use FSX too much since I'm satisfied with my FS9 setup, but obviously moving to a new machine I'd start fresh -- so would probably move to FSX.Current Specs:- Core 2 Duo E6600 (stock, not overclocked) @ 2.4 GHs- 8 GBs RAM (DDR 2 / 800)- Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 (1GB)Here's what I am considering upgrading to. I'm not dead set on any of the components, other than the i7 series CPU & Nvidia gfx card. Any recommendations are appreciated. Price…

I can afford to have someone build a best of class water cooled system, I think ;o) I plan to wait til Ivy Bridge comes along. Any recommendations for a company w/ a gr8 rep for something like this? I don't mind supporting it after it's been delivered, but the initial build I'd be ok w/ turning over to a good 3rd party. I have built all of my systems for the past 15y.Noel

Ever since I built this computer my temperatures have been terrible but recently I noticed that my temperatures are just unacceptable. I just got done with a BF3 gaming session and according to my realtemp it spiked 67C on the hottest core @ 3.7ghz. Is it time for new paste or is the H70 cooler not as good as people are saying?I know my antec 300 isn't helping with airflow but it does still seem higher than it should be.

HiI recently overclocked my i5 2500k to 4.2 Ghz used with 560ti card. Not a massive increase I know but its hard to get a stable overclock much higher. I am a bit disappointed with the results, sat on the runway at Heathrow payware add on FPS were only up by 2 FPS, from 22 on standard to 24 when overclocked. Is this what I should of expected ?

My old H50 has been faithful since day one, but in the past couple of days I've been testing different mounting options and fans. Two things I've realized (or rather reaffirmed): Fan direction is important on the radiator. Corsair suggest setting the fan up to intake from the rear exhaust on the case. Load temps are much cooler with the radiator fan as an intake (5-6C cooler than exhaust). This makes sense, of course. Warmer system air flowing through the radiator fins doesn't help it do it's job any better. What fan you use makes a difference. The stock corsair fan that came with this H50 gets the job done. The Feser Triebwerk fan I use does a better job, though.…

I'd like to ask a question of those that are in the know when it comes to overclocking. I'd look at the 2700K 3.5Ghz LGA1155 chip to start with, and I'd be pairing it with an Asus P8P67 Pro board. What are the limitations in terms of overclocking headroom (assuming cooling is no issue)? I'd really like to acheive 4.8Ghz if possible, I'd also like quite a lot of RAM in the machine and since it's so cheap I'm tempted to spec for 16GB if I can get away with it. So how is this going to limit my overclocking capability? The RAM I had in mind was G.Skill Ripjaws Z 16GB DDR3 PC3-1700 C9 2133Mhz.. and it comes as a set of 4x4GB modules. Is having a RAM configuration like this …
