All of my Christmas shopping is done and I have a few dollars left over so I'm trying to decide what would give me a little better performance. I'm thinking of a SSD for my operating system or a GTX 580. My current specs are in my signature. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi all,Just got the Saitek rudders and I have set the toe brakes to differential braking.Problem: when I apply the toe brakes and release, the differntial braking does not stop, just keeps braking. I then have to either apply manual braking or the other toe brake wheich then gets stuck the same way.Question: how do I hget the diff braking to work properly...ie to relase the diff brake when I let the rudder toe brake off?Thanx for any help.

Hello,As it is now school holidays for me, i have a lot of time on my hands. So i was thinking, not promising but maybe if I get enough votes for it weather to do some research and benching. I would be looking at going from around 4.0GHz upwards to about 4.8GHz to see how much difference there is in FSX frame rates clock for clock on FPS. I was thinking I should do fsx mark11 but that means uninstalling REX and making it a vanilla fsx. So i was thinking instead that because it is only my system, clock for clock, I should save a little route and fly it instead. So my plan is to get an average frame rate of this little flight, for every speed i test, and then find the perce…

How much better will the Ivy Bridge be for overclocking?I know that we don't have a whole lot of real information about the chips, BUT, I would like to hear some of the various opinions about this new series of chips from Intel.

  7. The computer will still boot fine after this error, but what is it? Also right before it says hard drive undetected or something along those lines (and then proceeds to ignore that message and continue with no issues). I'll attach the dmp file. ~Also I should note I was about to overclock, until I saw this message. I dont want to proceed with that until I know how to fix this issue

Tonight I shutdown my pc to clean it. I went to plug it and it won't turn on now! I've tried several outlets; clearing CMOS, etc. At first the fans would spin for a second and nothing else. Luckily I still have tech support for anOther year at geeksquad: maybe a bad psu?

Hey everyone,I am getting a my new setup in a week or so....Just some preliminary thoughts,-What is the max safe voltage that I can push my 2700k to? (I am purchasing a Corsair H100)-What are considered "safe" temperatures for the Sandybridge setup? (I have bloomfield)-Besides upping up the CPU multiplier and CPU voltage, what else will be neccesary? All I want is a CPU @ 5GHZ.**PLEASE LOOK AT MY SIG FOR SPECS**Thanks,

Hi everyone, looking for a CPU for my new setup. The Intel Core i7 990X (3,46GHz) seems to rank very high in most ratings, and I assume it would work well in FSX. Should I go for it? I should probably mention that I do not want to overclock by any means. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Okay, I'll try a new thread, my old one was a little too vague. Basically I have had a Dell XPS desktop with an i7 920 for about a year and a half now, but Dell's mobos/BIOS don't allow for overclocking. I'm looking to get a new mobo that will allow me to do so (plus a new case, power supply, and some water cooling). I also have an ATI Radeon 5870 abd 8gb of dual channel RAM, so it needs to be compatible with that as well.Any suggestions?

So I bought a new i7 2600k processor on an ASRock Z68 pro mobo a few months ago and thought it might be time to try and overclock it. Downloaded prime 95 and thought I'd test it at the stock 3.4 and with the stock cooler (which I plan to upgrade). However, after about 10 mins I noticed that the CPU temp had gone up to 80 degrees c!!?? Is this in any way normal for stock speeds with the stock fan? Any help appreciated. Sean

Hi guys,I´ve got a special task and I´m out of knwoledge now. My task is to speed up my sisters computer. It is my old one (The one before my current one) and I have it alot faster in memory than it is now. (Maybe I´m a bit too used to the speed of my own rig?!)It´s only used for surfing the net, writing some documents and a bit of gaming from my side (The good old C&C Generals Zero hour runs flaswessly and I´ve got no luck installing it on W7.)The system contents an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual core CPU, 4 GB 800 MHz Ram and an nVidia GTS 250 and on the HDD are only 40 of 313 GB used. 19. I just upgraded my system to a 2500K CPU on a Z68X board which has Virtu bundled in. When I have the monitor connected to the IGP in iMode, FSX worked OK. However, after I installed FSX Accelration pack, FSX complained about the IGP for not meeting minimum requirement and aborted. Is that your experience too?CheersM Tan

I have an iMac that I am thinking of selling to fund a Windows 7 self build pc so I can combine work and simming. The iMac I have is a top spec 2011 one. The full spec is here: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-i7-2.8-21-inch-aluminum-mid-2011-thunderbolt-specs.htmlThe pc parts I am thinking about are something like this set: It might not be the final configuration but is roughly what I am looking at. Something in the region of sub £1000.My question is how much of an increase in performance in FSX would I get over the iMac?In the iMac running FSX via bootcamp with the PMDG NGX at Flytampa Boston with REX clouds and default AI at 75% I get about 12…

I am purchasing a system with a 256 GB SSD and 1 TB hard drive.Given the huge size of FS X in terms of GB with all the add ons etc. I would prefer not to use up a good chunk of the SSD for the game. It also makes backup images of the SSD somewhat ponderous. All other things being equal would I expect to see any major difference in FSX performance if I load it onto the hard drive instead of the SSD drive?ThanksGreg

Would someone please help me with two issues that I believe could be related and perhaps part of a motherboard problem?First, I have sound issues best described as the volume reducing from whatever I have it set to, to very low- almost inaudible level and then back up to normal. Much like cutting in and out but reallydoesn't go all of the way off, just almost all of the way down. It is very intermittent and I cannot tie it to any specific cause. This may not occur for days and then frequent for a while. There just is no real pattern to it and it has been going on long enough that I have paid close attention to any keys as to what might be the trigger but no luck. The…

Currently, I have a Dell XPS desktop with the following components:i7 920 @ 2.678GB dual channel RamATI Radeon 5870450 W power supply1TB Hard driveBasically, I originally ordered this computer a couple years ago because I was sort of afraid to attempt building my own PC (I'm not too tech saavy). Of course I didn't realize until afterward that Dell's motherboards are specifically designed to deny you ability to overclock the CPU - the BIOS doesn't even have that option. I didn't gripe too much, 'cause it's still light years better than the previous rig and runs FSX pretty well. However, if I'm trying to fly in major cities/airports with complex aircraft, it's still almost …
