I'm tinkering with my old choking FS9 PC, which consists of: AMD 64 Athlon processor 3800+ "Venice", MSI K8N mobo and a total of 2Gb RAM (4x512)Trying to squeeze most out of it I picked up a system monitor program called CPU-Z, which displays various values from a system. CPU values are correct and FSB 200MHz (not overclocked), like it should. However, the memory tab shows memory speed as 134MHz. Shouldn't it equal FSB in my case? That's what I was thinking.Moved on to the next tab which shows info on each memory chip installed, in my case four. Three of them showed to be PC3200 (200MHz) but one as PC2300 (134Mhz)!In BIOS memory management settings are all at auto.I'm not …

Ok so I've been looking at getting a custom-built PC. I know a great builder who can build me one for a decent work charge. That was gonna be an i5 2500k with a GTX 560 ti. HOWEVER.He's got a PC at his place currently, which he could sell me for around £300 (he's a mate).Simple specs are:CPU - Intel Core2Quad q6600, hopefully overclocked to 3.5ghzGPU - Nvidia 8800 Ultra, may upgrade to GTX 560 tiMobo - Abit AB9-Pro4gb ram, upgrading to 6gigIf I get this I'll be getting REX2 GEX and UTX, UK2000 Heathrow and Gatwick, and some of Aerosoft's Mega Airports. Planes would be the NGX and PMDG 747, QW 757 (already have it).So how would this perform and look, with the addons? For t…

Hi,I have an i7-860. If I'd overclock it, i would have to invest in a better cooler, since when I try to use the instant oc button on my mobo my pc won't boot up.My question is: A lot of people have good results with oc-ed 'older' pc's. Should I go an get into oc-ing my current cpu or just buy a whole new i7 2600 rig. They are getting cheaper. And how does i2600 at 3400 (stock) perform? I generally fly airliners like Ifly's 737, Wilco 737 etc. not as heavy as NGX. And I like a lot of AI traffic, all other sliders are medium to high.

Hi,My recently built gaming machine has strangely started overheating. Specs are in the signature. It had been running FSX in the 50C range, but after a complete reinstall of W7x64, FSX, and all my files, it runs FSX in the 70-85C range. Processor is i7-2600K, not overclocked. The case (Antec 900) has six fans, two 140 mm over the drive bays blowing in, one 140 mm on the side panel blowing in, one 200 mm on top blowing in, and two 140 mm (one on the PSU, one on the case) blowing out. There's also two fans on the Radeon 6950, blowing into the case, but the side fan blows cool air onto it. All are running as fast as they can. The stock Intel CPU cooler fan runs proportional…

I'm having an unexpected problem with FSX on an SSD. The full machine specs are below, but the problem is that FSX will pause for several minutes (up to 8 min so far) and then resume. After 2 or 3 pauses at the next pause it CTDs. Using Process Explorer, there is no I/O at all from FSX, and there are 68-73 threads running or waiting to run. Active threads are all in a Wait stateThis happens with default aircraft and scenery, with REX, all PMDG a/c, and FSUIPC running. Only FSX-related software is on the SSD. It's an older 64 GB Kingston SNV425-S2 "desktop bundle" (circa 2009) but not used until Oct. 2011. I'm running W7 64 bit Home Premium on a WD Caviar 1TB 7200 RPM, as …

Hi guys,I´m currently trying to get my system running at 4.5 GHz. i had it on 4.2 Ghz for about a half a year now and it performs quite good. but after the GFX card upgrade (only 60% GPU usage instead of 100% before) and the NGX I thoughtI could get it a bit higher. I made now severals testwith various osffset valuesa nd got interesting results:My basic configuration @ 4,2 GHz (7/24): Vcore 1,328 - 1,32 V and 70 - 73°CFirst test @ 4,5 GHz with settings from Word Not Allowed (a bit tweaked for my case): Offset 0,160: 1,52V and 89°C Offset 0,080: 1,44 - 1,424 V and 85°C Offset 0,070: 1,424 - 1,416 V and temps max at 86°C but mostly arround 81°CI don´t think I h…

I bought days a couple of weeks ago, and my fps are getting hard when climbing, cruising. On the ground, my fps are the same as before rex, about 20-30 in complex airports with 100% WOAI traffic. However, ever since installing REX, my frames have been dipping into the low teens whenever there is even a small amount of clouds. Thus, I have to set max cloud resolutions to 1024, but my frames remain in the low teens. I have noticed panning around that it only occurs when I look at clouds. Is my graphics card the bottleneck as it can't handle the REX clouds with my other (almost maxed out) settings? Do you think overclocking it might help a little? Thanks.

Hi GuysNew to posting on this forum so apologies if its the wrong section/been asked a million times but i really need some advice from the pros! After watching some seriously hot PMDG on FSX YouTube vids I've given in and going to make the move to FSX from FS9. I bought FSX a few years back and was very disappointed with the frame rate with just the basic FSX aircraft.. didt even try to install any advance add on's.I am after a system that can run the PMDG NGX 737 high frame rate (50+ fps) with medium scenery settings. I wont be flying into JFK with max AI aircraft often as I more interested in the frame rate and aircraft performance/fell than whats going on outside the f…

Hi everyoneI have recently upgraded to an i7-2600K o/c to a stable 4.2 Ghz. My 285 GTX graphic card is playing up so I will be buying a new card in the near future. I am running Win 7 64 bit and have 8Gb of 1600hz DDR3 Corsair ram. I understand that as FSX is a 32 bit programme it can only use just under 4Gb of ram which will be divided between the main ram and the graphic card ram. My current card has 1Gb of ram and my question is am I better of buying a new card with the same amount of ram or buying a card with more ram? I'm not thinking of buying a card with a lot more ram but of possibly buying one with a slight increase in ram. My reasoning for considering this is th…

so i was wondering.......i have an i7-920 system that i bought bought just under 3 years ago. running at stock speed. 2.67GHz isn't it?i am in general (still) quite happy with the system performance when it comes to FSX. however, after 3 years i am thinking a little upgrade could make me a very happy camper. when you taxi around those lovely mega airports in your PMDG NGX it can get somewhat choppy when frame rate drops to the low teens.looking around i am quite surprised to see that my old CPU is still selling for roughly the same price? am i missing something? maybe i need to realize that it is 2012 after all but thinking back to the mid 90's you did need a new system e…

A coworker of mine is having an issue where they can't boot into windows in normal mode. As soon as the screen gets to their user account icons the laptop restarts. The guy said he hasn't used the PC in about a year and it's been on the internet at some "questionable" sites lol. My thought was spyware/virus. I'll be running MSE and another program on it this week but I wanted to get opinions to see if it might be hardware related? What do you guys think? If all of my scanning fails I'll just format it and reinstall Windows..

Hi,After a lot of forum browsing, finally decided to "dump" my old Dell Inspiron 530 desktop and buy me a "gaming" laptop. There were different factors why I had to go for a laptop, though much against everyones advice. I`ll write down my specs here for anyone looking for a notebook which handles FSX pretty well. This was price/quality, my nr 1 choice:BTO X-Book 15M39 (BTO stands for "built-to-order")15,6 inch full led non-glarei7 2760QM processor (2.40Ghz [3.1Ghz Turbo], 6mb Cache, 8 threads)nVidia GTX570M 1.5GB GDDR58GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM128GB Corsair Performance Pro SSD drive (which runs OS and FSX)500 GB HD 7200rpm 16mb cacheWindows 7 Home Premium 64bitsAfter configuring …

Hey everyone,I have gotten a totally stable overclock but I am running into an issue still.Basically, my computer has "freezes" and it will lock up and then come un-frozen after 15 seconds or so.I am almost sure this has nothing to do with my overclock. I have extensively stress tested and I am almost 100% positive that I am stable.I think it might be related to GPU or GPU driver. I am running the NVIDIA 290.53 BETA driver. Anyone else using these drivers had this issue?

hi all,as we all know, nvidia has always been the card for flightsim, whether being fs9 or fsx. A while back I decided to upgrade my nvidia gtx 9800 and made the switch to ATI(now AMD) for a change. I now have the radeon HD 6950 2GB which has been sufficient for my gaming whenever i have time to sit down and play. Now, recently i decided to start simming again and am reading everywhere that nvidia still is the undisputed queen of cards for fs. If i were to switch back again, what would be the equal or better nvidia counter part for my current 6950? my current setup is as follows: gigabyte ep45 ud3r mobo with a Q9550 @ 3.6ghz, gskill 8gb ddr2 800mhz 5 5 5 15 2T, 120gb SSD(…

Gents - I'm keen to get FS9 off my iMac (the wife is always moaning at me because she needs to get on it) and to be honest although the screen itself is lovely the performance of FS9 is not particularly great (2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 256k ATI Radeon) and it gets crazily hot in the corner where the GPU, much more than it ever does booted into OSX.Thankfully my workplace are replacing a load of XP hardware for Win 7 stuff so I've just become the proud owner of a couple of HP Pavillion Workstations, three HP LCD monitors and the peripherals. My plan is to use one of them to run ASE, Radar Contact, FSNav, Topcat, etc and gut the other to bring it up to spec to run FS9 nic…
