Hello there, first off, don't bite my head off if I've posted this topic in the wrong forum, I'm quite literally brand new to this flight simulator forum and I am currently bewildered. I am a 13 year old child from the UK, and I'm after a good bargain that will run FSX with ease, you know so I can have REX, GEX, processing power hungry addons. Currently, my budget is very low, but I'm saving up and I might be able to manage £200-£300. Let me tell you my current pc specs (I assure they're bad, but they just about do the job of running FSX with a few addons and medium settings): Advent Modena M101Intel Celeron Dual-Core CPU T3500 @ 2.10GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz2048MB RAMDirectX…

I have 8gb of Skill 1600 memory installed in an ASRock motherboard. The BIOS sees all 8gb ok and is clocked at 1066. However, in Windows 7 64bit the system only allows loading into 4gb of memory. Below is a picture of the Resource Monitor that says that 4gb is "Hardware Reserved". Since I have never ventured into the 8gb territory I am not sure what causes that "reserve". IThe only jumpers I can find on the motherboard are for speed settings and mine is at 1066. The BIOS does say the memory speed is 1066.Other than the above the memory works ok in 32bit or 64bit dual boot.DualCore 8400 3ghz

I didn't do anything related to my windows 7 system. I just installed silent hunter 4 and its addons, it takes only 20GB. Yesterday the drive had 75GB free space but when I turned on my comp this morning, the red stripe is nearly full. I never had this before, I run Ccleaner, defragmenter, virus scanner but no avail. My fs9 files which I have compiled for many many years are all in that drive. Help me out here please, I can't afford losing all my add ons and tweaks there. My spec500GB SATAGEforce 9800 GT4GB Gskill ramX2 250 3.0 ghzWindows 7 ultimateKind regards,

Hi there,Considering new system build in the near future. SSD is going to be a definite, but trying to figure out size, in part.FSX is my main game. Considering it's quite the space hog when loaded up with, say, juicy mesh terrain, textures, planes, etc., I'm concerned about the space/benefit comparison utilizing an SSD.Does FSX get any noticeable performance benefit from using an SSD? I've got mine on a Velociraptor right now and it does ok. Just curious if there will be a noticable difference, or if I should save some $$$ on the SSD size and dump the idea of having FSX on it.Thanks!

I am not too concerned the actual FPS number, but want to have "smooth" flight, without stuttering.Visually FSX looks bad. Lots of jagged edges on the plane and buildings.Lots of "flashing" lights on the sides of buildings as well.I am hoping that tweaking/adjusting will take care of some/all of this.Perhaps I should replace the radeon wi…

Calling all SSD experts:My FSX is stored on a 120gb SSD. I have a couple of maintenance questions. 1) should I ensure TRIM is enabled? Is there any downside to this? (I have of course disabled any automatic defragging in Win 7)2) I use O&O disk image regularly (and certainly before trying any add-on or driver change) to image the entire PC. This includes my mechanical OS drive. If I upgrade the SSD to a larger drive one day, will I be able to restore the image of the old SSD to the larger SSD? (I know this expansion concept works with mechanical drives... does it also work with SSDs?)Thanks

Hi guys,I know I am probably paranoid about all this but I was just wondering is there a safe way to delete files on the HDD that I know I don't need which are just slowing the system down after they have been fully deleted.

G'Day,The last few days I have been scanning through the forums to try and find what the most used AM value used for the 2600K, in my case overclocked to 4.6Ghz with HT on... During this research I have found numerous posts, most of which I have just lost complete knowledge on what the heck they are talking about.. cores on here, cores off here, numbers from 43 to 255 here, there and everywhere! So here is my question.. what would be the best AM for me?... As I said above I am running a 2600K @ 4.6 with HT enabled, and use numerous other programs at the same time (ActiveSky, FSinn, VatSPY, Skype etc.).. Right now I have mine set at 84, which to tell you the truth, have no …

What's up everyone? Basically I'm looking around to start building a good FSX computer that will be able to run the game with everything maxed out and with REX/GEX while flying a CLS or PMDG addon. I would like to have around 30 to 25FPS in areas like London, where I will be flying quite frequently.I will have around £1300 pounds to spend on all the parts excluding the monitor, keyboard, mouse, which I already have. In US Dollars that will be around $2000. I would like someone to post me every single part I should get to build a fantastic FSX computer, including the case, cooling system, everything. Here is what I would like to have.. - an i7 CPU, a GTX 580 or something a…

Hi Fellow Simmers,I'm looking to build a computer for FSX with these components:CPU: i5 2500KMotherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 Motherboard Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD7950 3GB Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 System Drive: Crucial M4 SSD 128GB Optical: LG GH24NS70 24x SATA DVD-RW Drive OEM Case: Aerocool VX-E Pro Limited Edition Case Power: Corsair AX750 Gold Power Supply CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler I've heard of FSX being CPU bound and thus will be attempting to overclock the i5 to 4.5Ghz.If …

Hello fellow simmers - hope that I'm posting this in the right forum. I've just spent the last three to four hours going over many, many posts on this topic through a search, and need the help of some of you to confirm that I am using the best option possible for this reinstall or move. I've gotten bits and pieces from many, many posts, but I could not find one that definitely eased my doubts. I apologize if I did not see this on much older posts.FSX runs very, very nice in my system, using Nick's tweaks, and after overclocking my E8400. It runs on a separate partition from the OS (I have a total of four partitions.) The opportunity to purchase new addons th…

I'm thinking about replacing my old AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ CPU.My options are:AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz/3.3GHz Socket-AM3 Six-core.orAMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz Quad-core. Target [email protected] looks like the latter is pretty much outdated from the market, so might be hard to get a hold of one. But I was thinking, since FSX is the only "game" for me, that performance with the quad-core and higher clockspeed will give a better result. So, do I really ned six cores with a lower clockspeed? I cannot afford a new mb, so looks like these two CPUs is the only choice.System:MOB: ASUS M3N78-VM, 4GB DDR2 RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTX560 TI graphic card. Thanks for any advice!Thor Ko…

Hey guys, I haven´t been arround the hardware forum for quite a time now (Cause everything worked quite well.) but since I do only fly the NGX I have sometimes a pretty big FPS problems (14 FPS and shuttering down at some addon airports). If you check my sig I normally shouldn´t have this problem, it´s normally pretty fast. But what I do know is that my HDD, which has two partititions (One smaller for the OS and the rest for FSX and everything else) is pretty crappy and this could lead to my bad results in some areas. So i thought to take a bit of strain off my HDD and get an small SSD for the OS and everything what is is that partitition (currently 55GB heavy) and let th…

There is a thread in the FSX forum where the following was suggested may have benefitAfter reviewing the docs on i7 and looking at the tech information at FSINSIDER I have come to the conclusion that there MAY BE some value in running HT with i7 and FSX if the affinity mask edit is used.I personally do not have time to drop what I am doing and go into this and test it correctly .. therefore I am going to post this for people using i7 to tryNOTE: IF you are running 4GHz and enabling HT may push the temp of the i7 processor over the 80c limit you should reduce the clock on the processor to ensure safe operation. You may wish to stress test with HT enabled and establish your…

Well, I spent two days making this, and pretty happy with the result:1) cable canals around on the walls, all the speaker cables, network cable, power cables, cables coming from the mixer are in there2) wooden holder mounted behind my desk, that was a big DIY job - all made myself - bought wood, got it cut, metal parts, screws, planing etc... holding basically everything that I don't need on my table: switch, power plugs, all excess on cables (oh the many cables )Pictures are worth 1000 words.

Kind of a stupid question ain't it? In the last 2 weeks or so I've had this really strange issue with my fans. The fans are not spinning constantly and even the leds are flickering on the 2 fans. I got in contact with Corsair about it and after 1 message they asked me to submit a RMA for my case which honestly is a pain to do. I am hoping that you guys have some insight if replacing the case (aka the fan controller and fans) will fix it. I also thought it could be my power supply not giving constant power but I fell that I would maybe see bsods because of this too. I do have my computer plugged into a surge protector but its really old and we did have a hefty power …

I've been doing different upgrades throughout the years and the one upgrade that made the most difference in load times in FSX were CPU upgrades. Upgrading to faster hard drives did make some difference but not as much as upgrading to a faster CPU as far as load times are concerened. I currenlty have an i7 2600k and a 240GB SSD. I didn't notice any difference in load times in FSX going from a slower SSD to around a 2x faster SSD. I noticed some difference in load times after upgrading from a 1TB to a 160GB SSD. Would upgrading to an i7 3930k with quad channel memory from a 2600k with dual channel memory speed up load times in FSX? I can afford an i7 3930k and a dec…

Hi all,I've been tweaking for a while trying to get the best BP and or Reject Threshold in FSX and whilst I dont fully understand whats going on there I think I have found my sweet spot. However some posts around here are saying nowadays our CPUs are driving to much data at the GPUs. This is perhaps the case with me. I have a 4.9 2600k with a 590GPU running 3X 30'' screens.I know FSX dosnt do SLI like other games but if I slid another 590 in under SLI will the data overdose from the 4.9SB spread the workload over the two GPUs?thxIM2

I not sure this is the place to post this, but some have suggested its a hardware issue, while others have not.I've been getting these crashes after about an hour and a half.My system specs are below.I had folks suggest that my memory timings are wrong. They're not. And I've had folks suggest my system is unstable and I should reduce the clock.Howver, I run Prime95 and Intel burn test and no problem. With FSX running my temps (as measured by Real Temp) run between 35c and 50c., which seems OK to me.I've got FSX and the addon aircraft on a 128 SSD and RC, UTX, GEX, UT2, and FSGlobal on my 1T WD.Anybody had any experience with this? Thanks.Dan Cole

I've got interference going though my sound system. Sort have been living with it until I purchased a Logitech 2.1 system for my laptop. For kicks I swapped the two sound systems and noticed right off my FSX system was whisper quiet even if cranked up the volume - great signal to noise ratio. But I want something "beefier". I have been using a 30 year old Soundcraftsman Pro rackmount system which cranks out 400 watts RMS but was designed before the age of PC's so maybe I am getting leakage through there ( or the cabling, or the speakers). So I thought I would throw this out to hear what you guys are using for sound? I've already got a good Creative Labs high-end sou…
