Hi everyone, I have a question on vcore, I run a gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 mobo and I overclocked it to 4.6Ghz about 4 months ago with Mike from fs-gs. I forgot what my vcore was so I just checked and it said 1.48v. Is this safe? It never goes over this and quite often decreases to 1.45 while I'm flying. Gigabytes are hard to set vcores with because unlike asus it doesn't give you a clear voltage increase/decrease option, you have to do other little things to adjust them with which mike and I had much struggle with for sometime until we cracked how to do it manually. I ran prime95 for about 4 hours and had no problems when I first overclocked it to 4.6. But maybe I should …

Hi guys, I've got my new system up and running now. I'm using a new SATA3 Crucial M4 256 SSD for my Windows partiton. I have another one on order but I couldn't wait to get FSX running so I have installed it to a Raptor that I "borrowed" from a machine at work. My question: I want to clone the Raptor to the SSD when it arrives. I know SSD drives store data in a different way to platter-based drives, and also that one should not defragment an SSD. Can I simply clone the disk to the SSD or will I have problems? Should I defragement the FSX drive before cloning? (Something I would do in any other cloning situation so perhaps a redundant question) Is there any spe…

http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&partNumber=HMZT1 Hello all, how do you think this would work with FSX ? Thinking of setting up a combat sim on a Flyseat with CH stick and throttle and using the personal sony as display. I think this could be a great tool for flight simmers as the activity is mostly "personal"! Any drawbacks I'm not seeing? thanx, Luca

Hello, My old Q6600 2.4 system has died and as I was looking to upgrade anyways later this summer I am going to likely go ahead and upgrade as soon as possible. I had my system overclocked to 3.4 GHZ on air cooling and was for the most part satisfied with in non-dense areas (away from cities) however I still had sliders turned down (autogen and no car traffic). I did run my AI at almost 100% thought which taxes the system alot but for me AI aircraft are important. Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions on what to buy as I have been looking through the forums and just don't know what to get. Getting an Ivy Bridge system is not an option as I need to get everythin…

Hi guys I would like to ask you opinion. Currently i got 2 HDD both very old.. i think around 2004 and 2006 built one Maxtor Diamond max 9 160GB 7200RPM 8MB and one Seagate Barracuda 200GB 7200RPM 8MB recent years i been only upgrading MB or CPU and GPU but recently i did a deep cleaning and realized i think its time for upgrade of my HDD. whats the best to do so it won't be too expensive. i want to save some money on MB and CPU upgrade in a month or too for Ivy or Sandy. Depends what is worth. I was looking for the WD Caviar Green 1TB 6Gb/s 64MB for 75GBP 2 of them or is it worth getting the Caviar black for 120GBP almost 2x more …

Hi, I currently run an older Intel core 2 duo E7400 at 2,8ghz. Coupled with an ATI Radeon 6850. It gets rather choppy in FSX when things get busy. I thought that if I upgraded to a core i5 2500 (needs a new mobo with RAM too) I would be in the clear? But it appears this might not be the case? I keep reading about system with the "k" variant of the 2500 processor at draconian Ghz levels and stil not way up their with the FPS... You think a core i5 2500 will be a big improvement over the E7400 in FSX? Is there any CPU out there that does well with stock speeds? I hate overclocking and water cooling and whatnot coolers.

Hi, I'm looking to get a new system to finally move to FSX from FS9, but have a couple of questions regarding mobo and GPU components. The components I'm unsure about at the moment are: Motherboards: ASUS p8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3 or ASUS P8Z77-V. Both seem to have good reviews but the P8Z68-V is more expensive. What are the benefits of this card? I'll be looking at trying to overclock the i2700k to around 4.3-4.5 and from reviews I've read, both boards seem capable of this. Is this correct? GPU: GTX560ti 2GB or 580GTX 1.5GB. The 580GTX is quite a bit more expensive. From the reviews I've read it seems an excellent card, but is it worth spending the extra m…

Hello guys, I'm not the most tech savvy person out there, so be a bit lenient with me here, allow me to research a bit The problem is, while upgrading my computer I was tricked (By lower prices obviously) to purchase DH67BL motherboard for my Core i5 2500k. Now, I had no idea that it would be dependent on the mother board whether it is possible to overclock or not, so I guess the i5 2500k I have is completely no use with this board. I'm wondering if there is anyway possible to increase the performance of my 2500k or will I be forever doomed with this board? Maybe to bypass the restrictions, with use of Software, or even maybe a backdoor in the BIOS :LMAO: Forgive me…

I had my first BSOD 124 error last night while flying from Walter Suttons Farm to Jefferson Co in PNW scenery. Specs i7 2600K, Asus P8P67Pro Rev 3.1, GTX 580 1.5gb, Corsair TX750, 8GB G-skill ripjaws x Noctua NH-D14 The system is only a few months old home build. I`m running it on an auto overclock and it runs FSX happily at 4.45ghz all day long usually. Temps never go above 67 Max on one of the cores with HT enabled as I do lots of video editing HT is needed. .cfg tweaks bufferpools 0, affinity mask 255, LOD 6.5, wideview and V sync. The only thing I changed on my setup last night was updated the NVidia driver to the latest one and re-done my Inspector setti…

I am in the first stages of considering an upgrade, and the following is my speculation at the moment, definitely subject ot revision: 1. Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 Motherboard 2. Intel Core i7 2700K CPU 3. Zalman CNPS9900MAX-R CPU Air Cooler 4. G. Skill Ripjaws X Series F3-12800CL6D-4GBXH Memory (2 each for 8GB total memory) 5. EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 Video Card My first question concerns the memory. Assuming Nick's advice on previous systems is still valid, I chose the above memory in order to have the Cas Latency timing as low as possible which is 6-8-6-24. However if I remember correctly dual channel memory is recommended if not required in some co…

Hi Everyone Can someone advise me please, out of the ASUS X79 Pro and the Gigabyte X79 UD7 which of the two would make the better choice for a new build. I'm trying to look into the future here as what will support the new Ivy Bridge cpu. Or maybe there is some other board someone could recommend. Kind Regards Shaun

G'day,A weird issue has occured with my machine. I decided to overclock the CPU which in the process required a BIOS update. I was doing this with a new installation of windows just for the purpose of protecting the original ones. The specs:Gigabyte EX58-u3r rev 1.6i7-920 @ 3.86Ghz6GB G-Skill DDR3 10600 RAMRaid 5 on 3 HDDGeforce GTX 260PSU 700WWin7 32bit UltimateSecond boot install for gamesSingle HDD win 764 bit UltimateThe CPU runs stable no issues there however since the OC (or the bios update) graphics a very sluggish in games especially there a stutters all over. I made sure not to tuch any graphics or PCIE settings during the OC.Windows experience index used to be 6.…

I am near ordering parts to make my first computer build, specifically to make FTX run really good. Below are my proposed specs. Yes I know that Ivy Bridge is coming out in the next several weeks, but I would prefer to wait until it is proven technology and is truly cost effective for FSX. I have a few questions: Any advantage to getting to getting 16 GB RAM as compared to 8 MB? Any advantage to getting a 3072 MB GTX 580, as compared to the 1536 MB? If I overclock, any advantage of getting the I7 2700K as compared to the 2600K? Also, any other comments you have on my specs would be appreciated. Case: CM HAF 932 or Corsair Obsidian 650D ??? Power…

Hi, Just a quick question. I presently have 4GB(2X2) of Gskill 1600 RAM at 9-9-9-24 1.5v. I'm about to receive this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226295 Can I simply add those modules and let XMP do the rest? Or maybe 12GB is overkill. Thanks

I have never built a computer before, but am seriously considering building a new one with higher end components, with the primary reason of running FSX. I also plan on overclocking the system; once again, I have never done this before. I have reviewed the newegg videos on you tube and this looks like something I could do? Does it make sense for someone who has never build a system to jump right in a do a high end system? The videos make it look somewhat easy. Although the videos appear to be a perfect case scenario. How many potential problems could I expect that aren’t on the videos?

And I'm not surprised.... but my 120GB SSD is running out of space... I've still got over 40GB to go, but with Orbx releasing all this scenery and cheap....well you know how that goes... So I'm already brainstorming for the future... I could easily convert my 120GB into an OS only drive, and buy a larger SSD (sata III or pcie???) for FSX. How do the newer sata III's compare with a pcie-based drive like the revo drive? I'm talking value/performance/drive integrity/fsx performance.... My current mushkin callisto is gen 2... For example...the standard gen 3 ssd for $330 (down from 400 wow) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167086 …

Hi, there 's already a lot of threads in the forums (FSX related and non related) about this subject, but I have not been able so far to identify a unique answer to this question: " Is FSX more sensible to RAM speed or RAM latency ?" I know this is not going to affect FPS but only smoothness and microstutters, I know that CPU is by far the most critical component in an FSX tailored hardware, but in the end on an high end system, is it more effective, say, a DDR3 1600 CAS7 or a 2133 CAS9 ? Is there in the field any unique benchmark or user experience that can provide an answer, or, as usual for FSX, "your mileage may vary" and different users may experience diffe…

This is a very good board or at least looks to be but I just cant see why ASRock continue to put IDE connectors on their boards. Maybe the lower end ones but the higher end ones that go into gaming computers? Who uses floppy or old IDE drives these days? http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=19871
