Hi, It seems like I'm finally ready to get a new rig for FSX. I will order the parts from Newegg, Microcenter will care about the assembling. No overclocking is planned in the nearest future, thus no watercooling will be purchsed. Also, due to low reliability of SSD (i read many reports about Intel SSD crash all the time) I'd rather stick with the best WD HD on the market. Here is the list. Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Dmitriy

I have an OCZ 256GB Vertex 4 in my system now for Win 7, FSX, add-ons, and other commonly used apps. currently I have about 2/3 free space left and have not yet installed any add-ons. Also since my add-on collection is not yet complete and I would like to try a few other sims I'm thinking that even my 256GB drive will not be large enough to store everything. I need to make a trip to Micro Center again soon to return some parts that I've already replaced, so I have enough in returns with my current SSD that I could upgrade to a 512GB SSD for very little cost. Micro Center has two models of 512GB SSD on hand, the Samsung 830 and the larger version of the same drive I have n…

I'm thinking about getting a 2700K with the goal to run it @ 5 GHz and have been thinking about a good cooler that will let me reach this speed but still with safe temps and found the Antec Kuhler H2O 620 interesting. Anyone have this cooler and can tell me how good it performs? Thanks in advance!

I'm going to be building a new computer around the end of May, but don't know what to get. I've been looking around New Egg a lot, and have quite some options. Let's say I'm on a budget of about $700-$1000, and I want to get a whole computer, monitor, and all. So far I've come up with prices always leaning more towards the $1000 side. I'd like either an i5 2500K, or the Phenom II 965, and a compatible MOBO that's not ridiculously expensive. I've already decided on the GTX 550 Ti, unless someone else could recommend a better one of equal or lesser price. Thanks for help,

Shalom and greetings all my pals, My three or four year old HP Pavilion DV6885E Special Edition laptop with T8100 Centrino Duo Core 2.10 GHZ with 3 GB ram, 250 GB, 256 mb NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS, 1248x800 resolution, and Vista Premium has developed overheating problem since 3 months ago. If any FSX flight goes at 2 hours or over, the laptop will shut down by itself due to overheat ruining my flights. And I cannot be limited to one hour or 90 minute flights!!! My laptop never had overheating problem for past 3 years of FSX flying. The funny thing is that when I do normal computing on my laptop such as word processing or spreadsheet work or web surfing or watch…

I am at a critical stage of my new computer build – that is, ready to install Windows 7. I have a Caviar Black 1TB drive and a just purchased Crucial 256 GB m4 SSD. From a post I made yesterday, it was suggested that I put Windows 7 on the Caviar Black and FSX on the SSD. Since I am a fairly inexperienced hardware guy, I appreciate and don’t question the guidance to not put both Windows 7 and FSX on the SSD. But it would be of help to me to understand why, since there is certainly room on the SSD for both. I expect there is good reason. It would be of help if someone could explain why. Thank You in Advance

Word Not Allowed, your tweak guide is the best and is working really well for me. I have noticed a few artifacts once in awhile even with the BP=0, 30 fps locked and water 2x high setting. I decided to try a small experiment. I kicked the locked frames back to 29 and I haven't seen one artifact since then in my last 3 flights. I am wondering if there might be something to this or if it is purely coincidental. It bears looking into by folks who are more expert than myself. Just thought I would mention it in case there's anything to it. Lee

Hi Guys, I just finished building my first computer (especially for FSX). I bought a 1 TB Caviar Black drive. Is there any advantage of partitioning this drive? What do most of you guys do? I may later buy an SSD just for FSX, but that is a ways into the future. Thanks

Currently I'm using a Core i7-920 o/c to 4 GHz but I'm thinking about upgrading to a Sandy Bridge based setup and was looking at the availiable CPUs and I've been looking at these in particular Intel Core i7-2600K $372 Intel Core i7-2700K $396 Intel Core i5-3570K (Unlocked) $297 Intel Core i7-3770K (Unlocked) $432 Would appreciate any pros/cons and your input guys what would be best bang for the bucks looking at the price/performance ratio. I will only use the computer for FSX. As for the GPU I'm currently using a GTX 480, not sure if it would be worth also upgrading this to maybe a 680...? That would of course be a rather huge additional cost but if it wou…

Hey guys, I am excited that Ivy is finally out after waiting so long and refraining from going SB that I now can finally upgrade. My system specs are below if you are curious what I was running before. I just want to run the component list by you guys first before I hit buy. I will only list the relevant items, Mobo, Cpu, Ram, and Gfx, everything else I can manage. The PSU is a Corsair AX750 Watt. CPU is the i5 3570K, unless there is justice to go for the 3770K (I doubt). (CPU Cooler is H100 with Noctua fans) Mobo, I am kind of torn, I want to either go with Gigabyte or Asus. I like both of the boards features and am only going to use one graphics car…

Hi ! I have a doubt about which cpu to buy. I read on this forum much about Intel's i7 2500k, 2600k and 2700k, but saw some informations about the fx 8150 have a performace little bit higher than 2500k, 2600k and 2700k family. the price is almost the same, so, which cpu i should choose? thanks *ps: sorry for the english.

At the moment, I am using a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T CPU on a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H motherboard with 8GB memory and a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB video card. I have ordered a Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3 Ghz CPU + ASUS P8Z68-V-Pro/Gen3 motherboard and a GeForce GTX 560Ti video card. Suggestions or cautions as I start this process. Note: I will be reformatting hard drives so as to have FSX + Win 7 64 bit on SSD & the rest on 500GB conventional hard drive.

Hi all, Since the benefit of Z77 is more for IB, and now that I made my decision to go with an i7-2700K, what is a good Z68 based board? Z68 boards are less expensive, and since this upgrade will be good for the next three years (I do not intend to switch CPU ), is a Z77 board a good idea? Thanks

I've had this annoying issue in the past, and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I was able to see my win7 machine from my win xp box before I installed our new router. Now it's not working. Strangely enough Synergy+ (my over-the-network kvm setup) is working fine.... Anyway, things I've done: 1) WORKGROUP is set on both 2) firewall on or off doesn't seem to make any difference 3) Shared folders on Win7 pc are set to Everyone + read/write permissions 4) Pinging the win7 box from winxp works fine 5)In case it matters IPv6 is disabled on my router... It's probably some stupid simple step I missed... any ideas? p.s. my router is WNDR40…
