Hi all, I have been trying to enjoy FSX for probably about a year now, yet I always end up uninstalling it. First of all, I'll explain why..Basically whenever I play FSX, after a while it will crash. Not a CTD, but a full on hardware failure. The whole PC becomes non responsive and there is a whislting sound in the speakers. When it first started happening I thought it was that my CPU was too far overclocked (core i5 760 @ 3.8ghz, carefully OC'd with enough voltage to pass Burntest/Prime etc for extensive 24 hour sessions). Additionally, I have run the following games with my CPU in this configuration, for 6-12 months without so much as a hitch: Rise of Flight…

  3. Hello there, I am planning to buy a new rig and after hours of looking for a compromise between price and performance, I've found a computer for 750 pounds, that I think is reliable for FSX. However, I'd like to ask whether anything should be changed in the setup: • Intel Core i5 2500k Quad Core, • Asrock H61M-VS Motherboard, • 8GB DDR3 Corsair 1600 (2 x 4Gb), • Creative OEM SB Audigy SE, • Corsair Hydro H80 High-Performance Liquid CPU Cooler, • DVD+/- RW - 24X (Pioneer DVR-S19LBK), • 1000Gb SATA Hard Drive SATA 3, • 120Gb SSD SATA Solid state hard drive, • 52-In-1 Internal Card Reader, • ATI HD 6850 1024MB, • CiT 2206 Black Midi Case wit…

I hope this is the right place-let me know if not. I'm in the market for a new PC for FSX (and my wife's photo-editing). I don't know enough about PC's to build my own, unless I had a lot of help, I'd be interested though. I'm trying to keep my budget near $1,000 and I'm not very savvy. I don't have anything now (just an old Dell laptop). What I'd love is really a guide on what to find, but really where to find it. Any advice?

Hi folks I'm currently on AMD X2 (Regor) 250 3.0Ghz (stock) MSI 760GM-p33 4GB DDR3 A friend wants to pay the X2 and the mobo for $55. I am about to upgrade (if you can call it an upgrade) with intel i3 2120 3.3Ghz LGA 1155. My question is, will I, in ways, see quite significant difference? FS9 is my main sim, but as I will use LGA1155 socket Mobo along with i3, I can upgrade it to a newer cpu, so I can a bit by bit move to FSX (not in a rush thou). and, will my DDR3 RAM and my old 9800GT be supported by LG115 socket. I really appreciate your thoughts Cheers

Hi, Im upgrading my system and my buddy hooked me up with a MSI P55-GD65 motherboard that has a built in 8-channel 7.1 HD Audio subsystem with S/PDIF out. On my older system I had a Creative SB Audigy 2 Sound card. Should I use this card on my upgrade to free up the CPU from working the sounds, or is the built in sound system on the mobo just a better system and I should use that one with no sound card installed?

After numerous attempts to improve the performance of FSX, I still get bad FPS and cannot really enjoy FSX. So far I have tried to adjust the settings, reinstalled FSX and all of the addons, brought a new computer with a better hardware compared to my previous one, followed every guide I could somehow find that was about improving the performance and much more. Of course the FPS got a little better, but all in all it's still running awfully. Today I was approaching FlyTampa's Chicago Midway airport in the NGX with clouds by REX. As I got closer to the airport I closed FSX because I felt like I was watching a slide show. I think I can expect FSX to run much better tha…

You may remember me when in Jan/Feb I reported FSX crash ntdll.dll problems. Sorting these out was not very successful so decided to acquire a new PC, spec below. 9. So Apple have just announced their New MacBook Pros with IvyBridge processors: http://www.thetechn.com/2012/06/11/apple-new-macbook-pros-with-retina-display/ How do you think they would handle FSX? I know they are expensive, but would you get good performance? I don't really know how good the GT 650M actually is, so I'm not really able to make a rough guess.

  10. Hello avsim! Yes I'm very new to all of this. But from the time I loaded FSX onto my computer, I was hooked! Now before you judge the title... yes I know there have been thousands of topics on this but, please listen to what I have to say. I purchased a MacBook Pro last fall, before school started, it's my baby! I purchased the 13-inch model for portability, and processor speed. Before I go any further here are the specs: 13-inch (Early 2011) MacBook Pro 2nd Generation Intel CORE i7 dual core (four virtual cores) processor 2.7GHz-3.4GHz max turbo dependant upon active cores (i7-2620M) Intel HD 3000 Graphics Processor (on CPU chip) 500GB HDD @5400 RPM (partitioned …

  11. Hi, need your help folks! AMD Phenom II X4 AM3 970 BE (3.5GHz) OC 3.8GHz is what I got, the rest is in my signature! Why do I have a FSX Slideshow still, while using such a nice CPU and nice not too old hardware? Does it really matters upgrading to a AM3 board with DDR3 from my current DDR2 supporting mobo? Cant I go nice with FSX without a nother upgrade? If someone here has some nice tipp and ideas, I'd be very thankfull!

  12. Anyone have any experience with a curve screen setup? I'm hoping to invest in a 1080p projector someone time down the road which can double for cinema viewing, and flightsim. The setups I've seen work with 3 projectors. Anyone know how effective/immersive a one projector system can be? Immersive Display Lite 2 is a software ($40) which seems to be able to distort the images around a screen. http://www.fly.elise-ng.net/index.php/immersivedisplaylite2 I have also seen rear screen projectors, but the curve screens seem very expensive at this point.

I started a post here a while back about possible faulty hardware I might have and a lot of people commented on how my PSU specs looked strange. If I could find that thread I would link it. Fast forward to now and I managed to get most of my stutter issues under control but I'm still suspicious about that power unit. A couple of days ago I decided to give my computer a little boost using the Easytune program that came with my motherboard. I set the overclock to 4.33 GHz to start and all seemed fine (although I didn't notice much of a frame rate increase). Today I went to turn my computer on and it would boot for a few seconds then shut off, then boot again and sh…

  15. OK, I need some help here. I need a better computer to run FSX than my XPS. I have the opportunity to get an already built gaming computer, but I need some unbiased advice. Also, I know that it would be better to build my own, but I don't know enough to do that. Plus, I don't think I have the patience; just admitting the truth. I have a ton of add-ons, including FSdreamteam, Flytampa, REX Extreme, Aerosoft, etc. Here are the specs: OS: Windows 7 home Premium installed 64 bit Processors: Process Type: AMD Zambezi X4 FX-4100 Processor Frequency: 3.6 GHz System Bus: 4000 MHz L2 Cache: 4x 512KB Process: 45nm SOI Graphics: Radeon HD 6770 1GB Ram Direct…

Hi, After a bit of time off flight sim cos i was so sick of all the crashing I decided to set up the yoke again. I was on a flight from Schiphol to Paris when it crash, surprise surprise. So immediately I went to the event viewer to see what I could find and there was absolutely nothing, positive about it. My CPU is at 4.5GHz 1.355V and although that may seem a bit low for a lot I was running 4.7GHz at 1.350V and it was stable, not crashing and a dream to use. So in the mean time I am gonna go over Word Not Allowed's guide, again, and see what I can achieve. Thanks,

Hi everyone, Since a few days I've encountered a PC problem twice, which is the strangest PC problem I've ever seen. What basically happened is that at some point my screen went black, and my computer totally shut down. All the LED lights went off, all fans turned off, everything suddenly turned itself off. I couldn't understand why it suddenly happened so I just restarted my PC. And here's the more odd part: 1 second after having pushed the power button to put my PC back on, I was RIGHT AWAY back in Windows with FSX and all programs still running! How is this possible? There was no boot procedure or something, just right away back into Windows. It has happened twice …

hello, This is continuing on from my last post about the stability of FSX. I went a day or two where I could do anything. Completed a few flights in the NGX then it just stopped again, so this time I checked the event viewer to try and find a new cause and turns our now windows explorer crashes every single time i even attempt to right click on a folder or right click my computer. I have tried deleting registry entries from the ContextMenuHandlers and tried to reinstall C++ which is what Microsoft stated to do. My OC hasnt changed in the past few days, the only thing that has is my rejectthreshold and FFTF. Nothing for windows. This is again just sop frustrating and I…

  20. Hi there My system specs are in my sig. I am running my i7 2600k at [email protected] vcore and memory is 8gb running at 1600. Now I have to be honest up front. I am a extremely proficient with FSX but from a hardware perspective I am a rookie. I bought my system used from someone who actually knew what they were doing. It was already overclocked and I merely picked it up, installed FSX and an insane amount of high quality payware and off I went. Now don't get me wrong, tweaking, be it the cfg. or inside fsx or graphic card settings, etc, I have done it all and bought the t-shirt. My problem is hardware, OS, CPU, motherboard, etc. I only know just enough to be dangerous. M…

Hi all, I was just cleaning my computer form junk, and I realized that FS2004 takes a couple of gigs of my memory. Anyway, I was wondering if I can run FS9 on a flash drive, if I copied the whole folder there. Anyone tried this before? Has it worked? The reason I'm considering doing this is because my computer isn't the best machine out there, but works fairly with FS9. I have plenty of memory, but I know that without FS2004 my computer will work better. Thanks for viewing!

  22. I use the following CPU AMD Phenom II X4 3.4 GHz. I overclocked it to 4 GHz. I must say there were only a slight increase in performence. Since FSX is very CPU bound shouldn't I expect more? Could it be that the CPU is not the limiting component on my system but the videocard which is a Nvidia GTS250 1 Gb? Also the CPU temperatur only raised a few degrees from the overclock. Is that normal? I use hyper 212+ cooler with an extra fan fitted to it.

  23. Hi all, I've been flying with my current pc for about 6 months now and have been really happy with the results, getting about 30fps across the board with the game pretty much maxed out. I was playing with a single 21" monitor and I recently upgraded to dual 24" 1080p monitors and I'd like to take advantage of them. This is the odd part, I've dropped to about 15fps (half) with having two fullscreen views open which I guess is expected, but it doesn't seem like FSX is taking full advantage of my pc's power and I wondering first of all, why and second is there a way to test if I could somehow get better results? The temp increase on the GPU and CPU are almost nonexistant…

  24. hi all, i have my cpu overclocked to 4.5 atm....my question is, how much more performance would i achieve if i oc'ed more to lets say 4.7 or 4.8? the reason of why i have it at 4.5 is because of the much lower vcore and how i can run it in offset mode, if i went to 4.7 or 4.8 i cant do offset anymore, dont know why but i cant seem to find the offset for it!! thank you

  25. Hi, I don't know if this is normal, but in windowed mode (occupying the almost whole screen) I have 30-37 fps, but if I press ALT+ENT to go into full screen mode, the fps drops to 29-31 fps. Of course I would like to have 30-37 in full screen too.... Thanks for your opinion about it
