So i just got a new new CPU (i5 3570k) and i thought i would test it in FSX. I loaded the PMDG 737NGX and JFK airport and I was getting 10-15fps in the cockpit view. I have definitely seen other people getting higher performance than this, with these processors so what could be my problem? The detail level in FSX was "very high", but the scenery was default so the fps seems quite poor to be honest. I also tried overclocking to 4.2ghz, but no improvements there. Any help appreciated. PC specs: i5 3570k @4.2 ghz MSi Z77 motherboard ATi Radeon HD 5850 @860/1200 GX 650W psu 8GB ddr3 ram 7200rpm HDD

G'day all, just noticed a new Vraptor has been released, a 500GB with a 64mb cache. The 600GB version I was considering has only 32mb cache. This is going to be my FSX drive, is there any reason going with the 64mb cache? this is the new 500GB drive http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=20544 and the 600GB http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/37171-wd6000hlhx cheers

I posted this thread on the monitors / video's section also. Here we go. The two set up's. A. Quad core CPU @ 3.6 GHZ running FSX using a single 3GB GTX 580 @ 2560 x 1400 for a single monitor, B, verses a Quad core CPU @ 3.6 GHZ running FSX using three GTX 580's for each monitor (3 monitors) @ 2560 x 1440. To run the extra monitors at that configuration, will it require more CPU grunt ? thus the adding of a card and monitor adding extra stress on the CPU = lower frames? Is the rendering of pixels a CPU agenda verses a GPU agenda? A bonus question. If it is CPU dependent, could a second or third computer be daisy chained to run the other monitors, thus fluid frame rates …

Hey guys. Im new to the forums. I got a brand new computer not that long ago and I'm very disappointed with it. It costs around $3500 and I'm getting the opposite of what I was expecting. I'm getting a laggy 10 FPS on any airport without addon scenery. I get around 5 FPS with ORBX YMML v2 addon scenery. I've tried many things to fix lag but nothing has worked. I really need to get those FPS up to a good standard. Here are my computers specs. I would appreciate it if someone could help me get to the bottom of this.

I let the aircraft sit at KLAX (FSDT and Mega So cal sceneries) and went to bed, checked this morning.. I had a pop up with an out f memory error message. Windows Task Mgr shows Free Memory = 22. What does that "free memory" mean? Is that the problem? Any ideas? I also have HIGHMEMFIX=1 in my fsx.cfg. I have a Total 8GB memory. a GTX 670 with 2GB (Running 3 X 24 Dell) surround view. Manny

Morning all,Well, I've been an AMD man since I first started using computers. Been in the industry years and always been a strong evangelist for AMD CPUs. However now I've been let down the last time. They just don't pack any grunt any more. Shame really, they used to be close competition for Intel and were in many ways ahead of them for some time. But now fall way off the mark.I've decided to upgrade my FSX rig from the terrible FX processor I recently bought to a nice Intel system.I'm looking at either the i5-2500k or the i7-2600k - I intend to overclock (got a Corsair H80 noise beast currently and the fittings for an Intel board)What do you people recommend as a proces…

So I am purchasing the new MacBook Pro 13" in a few weeks and I am just reviewing the hardware options that come with the MacBook Pro line... The configuration I have in mind, regarding HDD/SSD is as follows... Spend €100 more on an 128GB SSD and buy a 700GB+ external HDD. Or just stick with the base line 750GB HDD? Are SSD's worth the extra bit of cash or not? I will be using the MacBook mainly for Software Development. Also a small bit of gaming ^_^

Unfortunately I have purchased an LG A520 laptop seven months ago, exclusively to boost my FSX experience, for a relatively low price (nearly $ 1000). The laptop has i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 2G Nvidia GPU, and Windows 7 64 bit OS. After two months from purchase, it started showing blue screen of physical memory dump, followed by automatic restart. The event was happening intermittently not related to any specific activities. I took it to the horrible service center and they delivered it back after "updating some outdated drivers" according to them. Two months later, same problem occurred again. I took it to the service center, along with printed screen shots from Event…

Hey guys, it has been a long time since I posted anything in the hardware forum (just because everything is now working as expected) but now I´ve got something for you to help me: My parents will buy me an laptop as a present for my successful school degree. I might give them some hints but there are soo much different models and companies making laptops that it´s very difficult to get an good overview over the market. Maybe you guys can help me on this? I know that I won´t run FSX on that (I´ve got my main system for that) but some other games (like World of Tanks and so on) together with FS speciffic programms (maybe REX, mainly Plan-G and some other). My speci…

I am running new FSX on a 3930K system with one GTX 580 and Windows 7 Professional. No other add ons besides PMDG 747. and REX clouds 2048 textures. Not using REX weather engine. With this aircraft or even default aircraft most of the time I get frame rates locked at 35 no problem and great fluidity. But sporadically the frame rates drop to 8 to 9 with terrible stutters and I cannot figure out why. Not related to any specific situation/location and not eliminated by changing display , scenery etc etc.I thought it was Norton Antivirus but I disabled everything and it still happens, even sitting at the airport with engines running and not moving if I wait long enough. Then …

Hello all. I've been configuring, tweaking, and playing around with FSX for the last couple weeks and after installing REX and ORBX PNW, the performance is good (30 FPS), but the constant microstutters are still distracting. After using Bojote's tweaking tool, it's a little better. However, REX is what I believe causes the most stutters, especially right before and during weather injection. I've already changed a lot of settings and that doesn't cut it. I use "RejectThresholds" and "FFTF" is at 0.2. My question is how can I separate Windows and REX from FSX, so the latter can at least have more breathing space and could this in fact work for this issue? After …

Hi. My PSU is moribund. So I'm getting a new better model one from corsair. It won't change my purchase but I'm interested to know, will a new and better PSU make any difference to how FSX runs on my computer? or will it just power my computer in a more efficient way without making a difference to the smoothness or frame rate of FSX. Thanks Steve.

I have been using my head set connected to the Asus z77 MB. Pretty soon, I need to connect my speakers into the system. The Q is, IS MB sound ok for FSX or do I need a sound card? I have a sound card from my old system but I doubt that would work with the Win 7 64bit OS. What card do you have for yoyr win 7/64 bit? Manny

Hi, I've asked a fair few questions recently and I think it's time I upgraded. Please could you guys confirm the upgrade I'm doing is worth while... core i5 760 @ 3.4ghz to core i5 2500k with an aim to OCing to 4.4ghz or so. (new motherboard too, of course) Please note that my ram (Mushkin 1600mhzm, only 4gb, gtx 560 ti and 7200 RPM Seagate drive) will all be staying the same! Literally all I will change is the mobo and cpu - right now I can't afford to upgrade anything else. Am I right in thinking this CPU upgrade will be a big boost to my FPS? Despite a relatively slow HDD, a relatively small amount of ram (system is setup only for FSX, so far 4gb ha…

For the last maybe 2 months I have been getting random bsods and strangely they all happen when I walk away or am away from the computer. Well, I did have 2 bsods playing a game but feel its not my overclock is unstable. Other than the 2 bsods playing games all the bsods happened while idling or having maybe a youtube video open or webpages open. My current overclock is a 2500K @ 4.6.ghz with between 1.336 and 1.352 volts with it usually being at 1.344. That is at least what CPU-Z is reporting. While writing this I saw the volts spike to 1.360 volts. Could an unstable voltage be the cause of this?

Hey all, I currently run FSX + UTX + GEX + REX Essential and the PMDG 737 NGX with traffic turned off. I would quite like to add some traffic as my world is a bit sterile. I generally get 27-30fps (capped at 30) on the ground with airport/aircraft traffic off at default Heathrow with some weather. - Dense scenery. If I was to install Mytraffic X or UT2 or something and put it at 5% Airline only, do you know how much it would lower my FPS? I know the traffic addons at large airports can add quite a bit of traffic even at 5%. I run a core i5 760 @ 3.4ghz. Is it even worth me buying one of these traffic addons or will it kill my FPS entirely? Thanks :)
