Hi to all guys, I got SSD OCZ Vertex 3 where I wanto instal ONLY FSX, not operating system. My actual system is: C: OS Windows 7 (HDD WD Velociraptor 160G) D: FSX (HDD WD Caviar Black 500G) So I want to change WD Caviar Black with OCZ Vertex 3. My question is: may I have to set something special settings under BIOS or Windows 7? or can I simply initialize OCZ Vertex 3 (now it's not yet mounted onto Windows 7, but only phisical installed), change drive letter to "D" (after changing Caviar Black's one) and copy fsx data files? I repeat: I want only to use OCZ for FSX, not as boot operating system. My MOBO is ASUS Rampage II Extreme. Many thanks …

My system specs are as follows: E8500 @3.16GHz 4GB RAM 512MB 8800GT Windows XP I've recently installed REX for FS2004 and it has transformed it for me, amazing visually! I have my clouds at DXT3 512x512 and I'm really pleased with how they look. If I'm at an addon airport such as UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme with plenty of AI etc, I get frames in the region of 22-25. When cycling views I will often get a few seconds where the aircraft textures arent loading, they do eventually and it continues running as normal. When I'm flying it will say I'm getting anywhere between 22-36 FPS (locked at 36) but every now and then it will 'hang' for a split second. Which of…

Hi guys , i 've been reading the forums for a long time tried to make a decision for a new system ( current system see signature ) but simply can 't decide to go for a i7 3770k ivy or a i7 3820 sb-e , both on a asus rampage iv formula ( 3820 ) or a asus maximus v formula (3770k) I know there is a little price difference in processors , the sb-e is cheaper but the mothernoard costs more , There are a lot of threads about the 33770k , a lot of help but i can't find anything about the 3820 , how is this sb-e based system compared to the ivy system , they can oc about the same ,( i saw some oc results for the 3820 up to 5.0 ghz) , is the ivy "better " then…

Folks, A co-worker and I got to chatting about FSX while on a recent trip, and he was gushing over the cool factor on the PMDG 737NGX. Since this is an aircraft near and dear to my heart, I set out to learn more about FSX, as I've been a long time lurker on the forum, but never really got around to building a world-class FSX platform. My question is, (I can't seem to find a definitive answer, and search gives me some sort of ODBC error) what processor should I build a machine around for using the PMDG NGX? Needless to say, I'm going to want the most realistic experience, so lots of scenery, real-time WX, etc... So far in my reading, FSX is much more dependant on the C…

Found this old article that paints some favorable stuff on Haswell, but as I say it's old--from CPU world or something like that: Some preliminary information about about Intel's "Shark Bay" platform and "Haswell" processor core, the next generation after Ivy Bridge, surfaced on the net. Where Ivy Bridge will have 2 platforms, Chief River for the mobile platform and Maho Bay for the desktop platform, Haswell has Shark Bay for both. As you might expect, it also offers a performance boost, although it uses the same 22nm trigate technology. Haswell is expected to offer a 20% per core performance boost over Ivy Bridge, as well as greater integration and reduced power con…

Hi Guys, I have been reading the forums for a few months now, lots of useful knowledge here – will all come in handy when I start building my dedicated FSX machine. Thank you. I was wondering about a couple of things though – I keep hearing people say that FSX cannot utilize multi core processors. I would take this to mean that in theory if you only run FSX (besides the OS itself and related background services) – an i7 should not offer any performance advantage over i5 (other things being equal – cache, clock speed etc). Yet I see most people here using i7 and the i7’s do seem to post better benchmarking results (though this may be a selection effect). Also th…

Hello, I will be building my new rig later this month and thought about adding a SSD to put FSX in. Also I'll be putting Win7 OS onto an HDD. Now from what I read boot times are faster if you put the OS in the SSD. In my case I don't really care for the decreased boot time for the OS. I'm more concerned for FSX to boot up faster thus that is why I am putting the FSX in the SSD. My question is when I install FSX and all my other addons in to the SSD... is that all I have to do? Or is there more to it than I think? Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie with getting processors. Right now I have a I7 Core Processor 920 2.66GHz 8 MB LGA 1366. What would be a good move up? I looked on amazon but they confuse me because some have more GHz but the price is lower, I always thought the more GHz the better it is. I know the best minds are in this forum so any feedback would be great! -Travis

Ok so about a week ago i posted about building a new pc. Well my wife shot me down. So what i am going to do is try and upgrade my current pc. Where should i go? I want to get more performance out of it. My pc is mainly just for fsx. Would changing out my current phenom 965 BE that has been OC to 3.8 to one of the newer AMD chips be a good idea? I cant overclock past 3.8. Wont get stabel. I was thinking upgrane the CPU, upgrade to a H100 cooler, and a new case. What would be your advice on the next rout to take? Thanks

Both Newegg and Micro Center have the new Ivy Bridge CPUs for sale now. $290 at MicroCenter (in-store only), $350 at Newegg. Let the games begin. Real-world results vs months and months of speculation. Let's use this thread to post real-world first-person results and observations with the new CPUs.

Looking at the forums here, and at various overclock sites, the "PRO" of this board is BY FAR more popular than the regular -V variant. Is there a good reason for this? As far as I can see, there is little difference between these: PRO has more USB 3 ports. Both have plenty for my, many ;-) controllers and such. PRO has 12 phase power for the CPU, vs 8 phase in the plain -V. IMHO that may be on the diminishing returns side of things, but I do plan to overclock. PRO has 4 chassis fan connectors? I read this somewhere vs the -V has only 3? Unable to verify this at ASUS site. My RAM vendor's site (GSkill) lists the Premium, Deluxe and PRO variants in their "Qua…

Hello all! I just got a new Crucial M4 128GB SSD on sale from Newegg. It was such a good deal that I just couldn't pass it up! My question (for now) is: How can I transfer Win7 and a few of my games to the new SSD? Everything I have right now is stored on a Hitachi 1.5TB HDD. All the tutorials I look up tell me I have to put the entire contents of my main HDD onto the SSD, which is impossible since the HDD is roughly 12 times larger than the SSD. If you have any questions about my hardware, click on my profile. Any guidance into the right direction is welcomed! Thanks.

Hello all, I read Word Not Allowed's guide, very well done. And quite a bit of posts. I'm looking to build a sub $1k rig for some underprivileged kids that have taking a liking to aviation. I'm a pilot, and took some kids i volunteer with to the airport where they have a Redbird simulator, kids loved it. I'm looking to build or buy them a rig for under $1k, that would be easily upgradeable down the road should i choose. I've used fsx stock, on a 2005 HP Pavillion DV 2000 laptop, with a AMD Turion 64x2, nvida graphics . It runs FSX well enough for basic stuff I need. Time to u/g. Reason for cheap off the bat is I'll be springing for saitek gear a…

Hi all, I recently purchased a new CPU, RAM, MOBO and cooler acouple days ago. I did however buy RAM rated at 2400MHZ and 1.65v. I did ot realize that with the sandy bridge CPUs, max DRAM voltage is 1.5. Can I lower the dram voltage to 1.5 and reduce the speed to around 1600 or so and tighten the timings? Or do I have to get new ram and delay the hardware installation? Here is what I bought. Hi everybody! I am currently not satisfied at all with my computer. Yesterday for example, when I was flying to Rhodes using default scenery, I got 17 FPS (with some lag/stuttering) on final approach (in the NGX). I think this is way too bad for my computer, which is built with the following components: Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth P67 CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4,3 GHz CPU Cooler: Cooler master Hyper 212+ RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB Video Card: Gigabyte GTX560 1024 Mb HDD: Segate 500GB, SATA 6 Gbit/s, 7200 Rpm PSU: Corsair TX 650W Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 I am planning a computer upgrade next month replacing these parts: Case: …
