Getting married soon and won't be able to justify a decent PC again for some number of years as we save for a house, hoping to build something low-cost but high enough performance to run FSX with a decent amount of add-ons. I know full well that AMD chips do not offer the same level of performance as Intel chips, neither does AMD's integrated graphics offer the same level of performance as a discrete graphics card, but that is basically my only choice. I do not expect to run the highest graphics or scenery settings but do want to enjoy complex aircraft with a fair level of scenery complexity to enjoy my add-on sceneries. My current system is an Athlon 64 3400+ (socket …

I have my 2700K running at 4.8GHz, but was wondering how to stop it from throttling down to 1.6GHz when not in use? I've tried disabling Speedstep, C1E, EIST in my BIOS (Maximus IV Extreme - P67) but that hasn't stopped it. Thanks.

Hello All, I just bought a Samsung SSD. I need a bit of advice on how to install/migrating my OS to the new SSD while my FSX + add ons currently installed on a separate dedicated drive. Will I be able to start FSX by just install the OS and migrate the registry to the OS(windows 7 64bit)? Do I need to re install all the add ons? Regards Tony.

Hello! I often read that in order to run fsx good one needs an Intel processor overclocked to atleast 4.0 and a good nvidia card. Well Im currently running fsx on on I5 2320 3.0 turbo to 3.3 and an amd hd 6770. I have been pleasantly surprised by the performance of this computer. Little if any stutters, NGX vc 25-30 fps, rex, gex, and utx. Also getting good image quality with the amd card. I am however only running ai traffic at 25 percent. Maybe if I boosted that up to 80 or 90 percent then I would require a faster cpu. Also I do not have any addon airports. So my question is would there be any benefit in upgrading to an i7-2600 3.4 turbo 3.8? I am not interested…

Hi all, I really need your advices/tips on this. Over the last couple of months I have been working on Belgium 2012 and did not fly outside the Netherlands/Belgium. Yesterday I wanted to do a sightseing flight above Vienna and when loading the scenery at around 90% I was getting a CTD. So I tried Munich and also got a CTD. To cover a long story : when being in a mountainous area I am getting these CTD's and when the ground is flat no issues. I remember in december I did some flights to Munich and Vienna with the 737 NGX and no problems at all. I let FSX build a new cfg file, set sliders low , but no luck. Over the last months I upgraded the Nvidia…

Hi all, im having some troubles with my machine, i hope someone on here can help me My current set up.. i7 2600K Z68x-UD7-B3 EVGA GTX570 16GB RAM So i have been trying to overclock this rig, however i can't overclock past 4.4, and even at that it is not stable in any way! my computer wont last longer than 12 hours before a blue screen once overclocked. From what i have read some people say some computers just dont overclock as easy as others, and i have followed guides to a T from youtube and this forum and cant achieve anything im happy with at all My question is, if its true that some computers overclock better than others, is that due to the CPU or …

I am planning to build a new Ivy Bridge computer, I7 3770. Are there any simple instructions anyone can give me to overclock it? Does it need cooling? All I want is to build it and overclock it. I don't want to play with different settings. I have never overclocked before and am only considering it if is economical. Thank you if you give of your time to help me. It is appreciated.

Hi fellow FS captains! I just built a new FS rig based on Sandy Bridge with a 2700K CPU sitting on an ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe/GEN3 motherboard. Had a quick look in the new type of BIOS and already have one question. I noticed you can adjust the max CPU speed both in BIOS during startup but also by using the Windows software that comes with the ASUS motherboard but my question is how can I have the CPU stick to this higher speed permanently? With my old FS rig that was based on a Core i7-920 I had this clocked @ 4 GHz and it stayed at that speed all the time but maybe Sandy Bridge doesn't work the same way when it comes to overclocking but instead the CPU will only boost…

I would like to build myself a new rig, as my old one with the amd x6 has never fulfilled my dream of a smooth fsx, while using one of the PMDGs together with an aerosoft scenery. i would like to keep my gpu, which is a gtx 570 oc. CPU and GPU are watercooled and I´ve always done a lot of extreme cpu overclocking, which leads me to the question: 2700k or 3770k? Here in germany the price difference between those two is just about 30€ (3770k - 300€ / 2700k - 270€) and the only thing i´m interested in is whichone of the mentioned cpus does run the fsx better? I´ve read a lot about IB these days and i don´t like the fact that the chip runs THAT hot at ~4.5 GHZ and on top o…

Finally moving up from my old Athlon, right as the Ivy is out and now am thoughly confused. I'm a casual simmer that's not into spending time tweaking for the last bit of OC speed, I'd just like a good, stable, fast system. Should I go with the Ivy i5-3570k or the Sandy i5-2500k? Rest of system: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Win 7 Corsair 750w PS 2x WD 1Tb Caviar Black (sim on dedicated drive) Sorry, I'm on the road but I forget the GPU I'm using, but it's a decent unit, it's not in the budget to upgrade yet. TIA, 'Dog

Folks, I am seeking recommendations on the best way to move my FSX installation to a larger drive. I have a great deal of add-on scenery by many publishers (Aerosoft, FSDT, Orbx, Ultimate Terrain, Fly Tampa…) and many, many add-on aircraft including PMDG, A2A, RealAir, Captainsim, Carenado, ….. My current FSX installation (225GB) is on its own dedicated SSD (E:\FSX) but I am running out of space on that drive and would like to move it to a new larger 512 GB SSD. The OS and most other programs are on a separate dedicated SSD which has adequate space. What I would like to avoid is a full re-installation of FSX and all of my add-ons if possible. Can I inst…

Some nice testimony: Fantastic cooler Pros: 1) Absolutely amazing cooling performance. I mated this with some Tuniq TX-2 paste and an i7 3770k, which was OCed immediately to 4.5 GHz @ 1.2v. On a cold boot in a room at 70 degrees F, you're looking at 26 C on the CPU. After the processor warms up a bit, it rises to a grand total of... 30 C. A torture test in prime95 brings it up to 65 C, give or take. Gaming rarely pushes the processor past 35-38 degrees C on any individual core.

My rig has served me pretty well, However it struggles on ultra high performance settings (particularly with the add on aiports like Aerosoft's CDG or Tropical Sim's KDCA). I have the budget to upgrade to a new processor, but what i need is better expertise to advise me if what i have in mind makes sense or if there is some other aspect of my rig that I should address in lieu of moving to the better processor. As indicated below, I have the i7 930. I'm not really comfortable overclocking without some sort of step by step guide from some one using my same equipment as I dont trust myself not to fry everything. So, all advice on how to improve my set up is very welcome, th…

Hi. I just purchased GEX North America. Currently, I have FSX installed on an 256 GB SSD (E:\Flight Simulator X). It appears that GEX wants to default it's install to C:\Program Files (x86). Since I want to install on the SSD, should I first create a directory there, and then change the installation of GEX to the directory on the SSD? Thank You.

Hey. I have a couple of questions about overclocking my i5, as I figure now is the best time to do it as I've been using my system for almost 4 months and it's very stable (as in no crashes or anything). Before I start, I have to mention that my Hyper 212+ is kinda loud... My computer is the loudest in the house. In my BIOS (I have a MSI P67A-G45), it records idle temperatures at 40 Celsius. Is this a good idle temperature? I did apply thermal paste when I built the computer, so I don't think that's the problem. (Unless I didn't put enough, but I put a pea-size dot in the middle of the CPU then attached the fan) Is the BIOS temperature reading accurate? Now th…

ASUS M/B P8Z68 Pro Does anyone know how to enable the onboard sound to record what's going through it, rather than with a line in or microphone? I have several sound programmes, but when I try to record, I always get an error message stating that there is no recording device. I have the latest Realtek drivers installed. Audio is enabled in the BIOS and all external sound works correctly when played through speakers.
