Guys In the next few weeks I intend to upgrade and purchase a new CPU, MB and RAM. I currently have an E6850 (o/c to 3.5) with 6gb of DDR2 ram (800 Mhz). I know that the I5 2500K gets very good wraps, however as they have been superceeded by the new Ivy Bridge, I was wondering if it is still the chip to get. I understand that the Ivy Bridge can run hot so I was wondering what chip to get. Do I get an i5 2500K or do I get a newer model? It will mainly be used for FSX. Also, can anyone recommend a good motherboard to go with it. I will be keeping my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Many many thanks for any replies. John

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20120925182831_Intel_Discontinues_Core_i_Sandy_Bridge_Microprocessors.html No immediate effect of course, but within a few months it will be quite difficult to obtain a new Sandy Bridge chip so if you're thinking about a new chip and don't want to bother with Ivy Bridge, better act fast.

Is there anyone out there who can give me the final word on which is better - Liquid Metal Pro or Ultra. Some say Pro is harder to use but so far I have found Ultra almost impossible to spread evenly so I went with Pro which I used much more easily. If there is no great difference in terms of performance I will stick with the Pro. Others say Pro is better for flat surfaces like lapped IHS's and cooler pads. Any thoughts?

Hi There is a hardware retailer near me that has ssn drives on offer namely a 128GB OCZ Octane SSD 2.5-Inch SATA II Hard Drive so I was wondering what difference it would make if I only had my fsx installed on the ssd drive and my win7 64 bit on my normal sata drive. I don't really want the hassle of reinstalling windows if I can help it or would having setup this may stop the ssd working at its best because it still has to work with the sata drive and windows operating system thanks

Hello All, I finally bit the bullet and went for it. I successfully de-lidded my i7 3770K using a razor blade, got rid of the old stuff and applied my Liquid Metal Pro. However, being such a thin layer when applied (regardless of how much is used) the die doesn't seem to reach high enough to make solid contact with the IHS. I took the IHS off to check the contact patch and the Liquid Metal has only been disturbed in a few remote places. ( Obviously doesn't need to be as close with thicker heat paste). As if this wasn't bad enough, after carefully lapping both the IHS and the H100 plate they also appear to meet in some areas only. I don't know how to get them an…

http://planetoverclock.com/news/haswell-to-be-10-faster-than-ivy-bridge/ "Intel has been telling partners (according to rumours) that Haswell will be 10% faster with equal number of cores and threads at the same clock speed as Ivy Bridge counterparts." "Intel also promises better overclocking headroom, potentially implying Haswell will be able to push as far as Sandy Bridge did in terms of raw GHz numbers, i.e. we could again see 5GHz possible on air. If all goes (Has)well as expected then we could see one of the best consumer processors from Intel to date." These are likely rumors. Nonetheless, I find this very exciting and I can't wait to see how these ch…

For the last 7 or 8 years I have been upgrading my DESKTOP computer every 2 years or so. What I have been doing is buy all the components, case, motherboard, graphics card, memory........etc from a local store, They build it for me. Then I would give them a CLONE of my existing drive which they use to rebuild the new system. That had worked very nicely every single time with no problems whatsoever. NOW: This time around, I decided to do the same thing, except, I would like to use a LAPTOP for the BACKUP/UPGRADE. My question is can it be done? Using practically the same process? Would appreciate any input and insight. Thanks. Abe

So I went out and bought a new hard drive, 500gb, just for a bit of extra storage, me thinking it'd be fine and easy to install. I've connected up all the wires and that, and now.... I'm lost... . I checked out some sites online and they said that I have to format it, so I went to see it in "My Computer" but urm, I can't see it there. Any help would be appreciated.... Regards, Ró.
